হাইকু পৃথিবীর ক্ষুদ্রতম কবিতা,যার ৫-৭-৫ সিলেবলে এর গাথুনি। অনু কবিতা বললে অতুক্তি হবে না।হাইকু কবিতার অনেক উদাহরণ অনলাইনে আছে। ভাষাগত তারতম্য থাকলেও হাইকু কবিতা লেখার নিয়ম একেক দেশে একেক রকম প্রচলিত।হাইকুর বৈশিষ্ট্য ষঢ় ঋতুকে মেনে চলা। তবে নতুন হাইকু কবিগণ হাইকুগুলোতে তা পরিহার করে চলেছেন। পৃথিবীর সামগ্রিক ব্যবস্থাই হাইকুর আওতাভূক্ত। ছন্দের ব্যাপারে বলতে গেলে হাইকু ছন্দ গদবাঁধা। তবে অনেকে ছন্দের বাইরে গিয়েও জাপানী হাইকু লিখছেন।
