Eric Weinstein is a mathematician, economist, science policy expert and a frequent public speaker on a variety of subjects within the sciences. Dr Weinstein was formerly a co-founder of the Sloan Sponsored Science and Engineering Workforce Project at Harvard and the National Bureau of Economic Research, a co-founder and principal of the Natron Group in Manhattan as well as a visiting research fellow at Oxford University in the Mathematical Institute. Since completing a PhD dissertation in the Mathematics Department at Harvard in 1992, he has held research positions in Mathematics, Physics, and Economics departments (at MIT, Hebrew University, and Harvard respectively). He delivered the Special Simonyi Lectures at Oxford University in 2013 putting forth a theory he termed “Geometric Unity” to unify the twin geometries (Riemannian and Ehresmannian) thought to ground the two most fundamental physical theories (General Relativity and the so-called Standard Model of particle theory, respectively). He has been asked to address the National Academy of Sciences on five occasions on the future of scientific and academic research at elite institutions within the United States.

I didn’t say the other part of it, which I now feel comfortable saying, which is... CHRIS WILLIAMSON: What do you mean by that? ERIC WEINSTEIN: I think there’s a remarkable story, and we’re in a funny game, which is: are we allowed to say what that story is? Because to say it, to analyze it, to name it, is to bring it into view. I think we don’t understand why the censorship is behaving the way it is. We don’t understand why it’s in the shadows or why our news is acting in a bizarre fashion. So let’s just set the stage, given that that was in February. There is something that I think Mike Benz has just referred to as the rules-based international order. It’s an interlocking series of agreements, tacit understandings, explicit understandings, and clandestine understandings about how the most important structures keep the world free of war and keep markets open. There has been a system in place, whether understood explicitly or behind the scenes or implicitly, that says the purpose of the two American parties is to prune the field of populist candidates so that whatever two candidates exist in a faceoff are both acceptable to that world order. From the point of view of, say, the State Department, the intelligence community, the defense department, and major corporations involved in international issues—from arms trade to, oh, I don’t know, food—they have a series of agreements that are fragile and could be overturned if a president entered the Oval Office who didn’t agree with them. And if the mood of the country was, “Why do we pay taxes into these structures? Why are we hamstrung? Why aren’t we a free people?” So what the two parties would do is run primaries with populist candidates and pre-commit the populist candidates to support the candidates who won the primaries. As long as that took place and you had two candidates that were both acceptable to the international order—that is, they aren’t going to rethink NAFTA or NATO or what have you—we called that democracy. And so democracy was the illusion of choice, what’s called magician’s choice, where the choice is not actually, you know, “pick a card, any card,” but somehow the magician makes sure that the card that you pick is the one that he knows. In that situation, you have magician’s choice in the primaries, and then you’d have the duopoly field: two candidates, either of which was acceptable, and you could actually afford to hold an election. That way, the international order wasn’t put at risk every four years because you can’t have alliances that are subject to the whim of the people in plebiscites. Under that structure, everything was going fine until 2016, when the first candidate ever to not hold any position in the military nor any position in government in the history of the Republic, Donald Trump, broke through the primary structure. Then there was a full court press: “Okay, we only have one candidate that’s acceptable to the international order. Donald Trump will be under constant pressure—he’s a loser, he’s a wild man, he’s an idiot, and he’s under control of the Russians.” And then he was going to be, you know, a 20-to-1 underdog, and then he wins. There was no precedent for this. They learned their lesson: you cannot afford to have candidates who are not acceptable to the international order and continue to have these alliances. This is an unsolved problem. I don’t have a particular dog in this fight. I believe in democracy; I also believe in international agreements. And it is the job of the State Department, the intelligence community, and the defense department to bring this problem in front of the American people and say, “We have a problem. I cut the captain obvious stuff at the end and various parts in the beginning to get to the point faster. Among them there was some talk of Epstein. Here is a brief history of the Weinstein Bros and Epstein. Brett was a liberal, probably "progressive" professor at Evergreen State, a hippie college in Olympia, WA. I've been there and it's almost like an alternative school. Brett was put through a communist struggle session some time in Trump's first term during BLM that led to his removal from the school or he quit, I don't remember now, and he became an anti cultmarx (like many ex-communists before him) free thinking libertarian type, did a bunch of interviews on Fox and that put him on the map as a public figure. He started his podcast from there, which is quite good from what I've listened to of it. But long before that, Brett and his brother Eric were members of the Epstein-bankrolled Edge Foundation, which organized Billionaire Dinners almost certainly for the purpose of blackmailing them. I dont know what their roles were other than producing articles to influence behavior. Eric is a supposed scientist into string theory, quantum mechanics stuff. It's all bullshittery but people assume there's something to it because they have no idea what Eric's colleagues are talking about. Eric exposed himself as a BS artist on Joe Rogan by saying the kind of things string theory people always have said, and that's what he is, a BS artist and fake scientist, propped up by the deep state like many are in tech, because they're just there to put a public face on govt schemes. Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos, for example, or Mark Zuckerberg. More famous than his Joe Rogan interview, is Eric's podcast about meeting Epstein, during which he said Epstein did great things for science with his philanthropy. Epstein was no more a philanthropist or hedge fund guy than Eric was a scientist. He was a bagman of sorts, who brokered arrangments that led to blackmail, and that was the theme of Eric's podcast. It seems to me Eric was doing damage control and getting ahead of the news, having been to Epstein's home and had a professional relationship with him. Who does he think was using the blackmail? He also said string theory was false, as if it were fundamentally different than his "Theory of Everything." Perhaps he was trying to rescue the theory, on behalf of whatever agency, by substituting his own version as it lost credibility. But he was claiming not to be part of something he was part of, which was the point of the show with regards to Epstein: Eric telling the world he was not involved in the Epstein racket and neither was John Brockman, Epstein's "Intellectual Enabler" who established the Edge Foundation, in which Eric and Brett, again, were members. Epstein's supposed hedge fund was essentially a money laundering and blackmail gathering racketeering operation. Weinstein says he "dropped off trading materials" at Epstein's secret Midtown office. That would implicate him in the operation, knowingly or not. I don't believe his CYA story, and I think he did. But ofc, I don't "know" that, which brings us full circle to the Martenson talk. What Brett calls a "Cartesian crisis" in the beginning refers to the philosopher Descartes, who had the idea that any and everything thing you perceive could be a trick played on you by a great "demon deceiver". This came to include his perception of himself: how could he know he exists, that his existence isn't another of these tricks? He answered the question by saying he knows he exists because he thinks. "I think therefore I am." A "Cartesian crisis" means doubting everything you thought you understood, like Descartes did, and that's indeed where we find ourselves, with our government and institutions lying about everything under the sun for the past 100 years. We can't say anything with confidence because the records are hidden away, so we're forced to defer to experts on all these different matters that we could evaluate ourselves, if the government weren't denying us the information. Interview speeds up to 1.5x at around 1h30, the reason for this is my editing program copied the video file with the audio and video misaligned starting there, then going silent. I had to re-record it from my own file so I wanted to save time.
