Lapidary Talk with Mitch

In today's lapidary talk I am discussing the polishing of Malawi Agate that has some rough matrix spots. Normally I would do a final polish with either cerium oxide or aluminum oxide. However, in this case with the matrix areas being rough, I have chosen to forgo that oxide polishing step. The rough spots will collect the oxide polish and ruin the look of the stone. With this agate I was able to obtain a very nice final polish with a 14,000 grit diamond polishing belt.
