Member of the European Parliament, former Belgian Prime Minister, Guy Verhofstadt called on the EU to put more pressure on the Russian Federation

“Why are your sanctions not working? Because they are designed to be used in a democracy, when there is public opinion. And in Russia there is no public opinion, no democracy. What's in your fifth package of sanctions? Coal? Ridiculous, this is only three per cent of Russia's imports. What's next, SWIFT? Ridiculously, more than 50% of Russian financial institutions have avoided this type of sanction. Oligarchs? They have lost almost nothing from your sanctions.”
