Lost Music Files from Missouri - "My Conviction" by Aido (acoustic original)

My aspiration to make videos, recordings, and dabble in music dates back to before Youtuve was popular. While I can cringe at the amatuer production of these old videos, the memories of the times when I made them is no less bitter sweet.

Some of you have seen that I play a little bit if guitar, key word "little." Music has never been a gift of mine, no matter how much I love it. The guy in this video was my best friend for many years, and he taught me my first few chords. The song I published of me playing in Bamburi is the song he taught me, and I remixed it a little to give it a different flavor.

Aido and I don't talk anymore. It's so ironic and sad, because he came to Kenya before me. When I was preparing for my maiden voyage is when things started to fall silent. He told me before how much I would love it here. Now here I am, posting from Nairobi, years after his first trip and almost 4 years after my first. I always imagined he'd play some part in my life here.

We all went through a lot, our circle of friends in our small town. While I was going through my journies, Aido remained in our hometown struggling with drug addiction. Throughout all of these years and before I left home, he always inspired us with his voice and guitar playing. There were so many times that we tried "to jam" at his mom's house, but I just never caught on to the skill. Nonetheless, he entertained us so many times and it's a memory we'll also cherish from our younger, darker days.

He made this song after getting sober and taking a new turn in his life, so the lyrics will always ring loud to me and old friends who may hear it. I'll always wish the best for Aido and definitely miss his big guy hugs.

I'm glad I found this song stashed away in the vault.
