Hawaii’s tax and public pension systems were put under the microscope at a series of three free panel discussions hosted by Hawaii Rep. Andria Tupola, on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at two separate Honolulu locations.

Besides being the overall host, Tupola also moderated the first presentation, “Hawaii’s Tax Structure and Ideas for Bipartisan Reform,” at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium.

Carl Bonham, executive director of the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO), led the second discussion, “Hawaii’s Tax Structure and How Tax Systems Work 101,” beginning at the UH-Manoa Campus Center.

And our own Keli’i Akina, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, moderated the third discussion, “Pension Reform: Finding Solutions for Fiscal Solvency,” back at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium.

Others participating in the discussions were Pete Constant of the Reason Foundation, Robert Zahradnik of The Pew Charitable Trusts, and Scott Drenkard of the Tax Foundation.
