[Art Appreciation] 5 Timeless Artworks in Philippine Visual Arts
The presentation shows the Pis Siyabit, Tipos del Pais, Parol, Childbirth, and Jeepney Painting, their artists and communities, and the timeless representation of the Filipino culture. I chose these five works since I have seen most of them in real-time, making me experience deep personal emotions that I want to make everyone reminisce. The presentation contains four traditions from the Ethnic, Spanish, Euro-American, and Contemporary periods; with three range of forms that includes Crafts, Weaving, and Painting. These are all made with two hands and one incredible passion in art. The objective of this presentation is to show the value of artworks that were made without the knowledge of it being extraordinary through their unique visual forms and languages. One particular artwork contributed to my Filipino roots, which is the Parol. The Christmas spirit the Parol brings to Filipinos is very timely, and a traditional Filipino Christmas would not be the same without Parols in each house.

BFA Illustration at School of Visual Arts - Department Overview
At SVA, we believe that an illustrator’s career can be as limitless as his or her imagination. We always encourage ambitious thinking—the innovator, not the imitator. We not only inspire and encourage a student’s imagination, but also teach the art of interpretation: the ability to carefully read and cross-reference texts, research visual styles, and conceptualize and produce significant bodies of work.

Inside the Mind of a Visual Artist Turning COVID Blues Into Beautiful Art
Over 60 percent of Gen Z in Asia reported a decline in mental health since COVID-19 struck, freelance visual artist, Howie Kim, was no different. His signature style of surreal and whimsical art pieces were fueled by social interactions – without which he was drained of inspiration. Anxious and frustrated, he turned inwards for solace, and surprisingly found an inner world that could both inspire and heal. Inner Worlds with Howie Kim gives us a peak into his inner world, showing how in the darkest of times, looking within can give us the strength to adapt and grow.
