Malaysian Indian Street Food! | Dancing Rojak Man in Penang!
Malaysian Indian Street Food is some of the best food in the world. Whether on the street or in a restaurant, you usually can't go wrong. Here in Penang, Malaysian Indian street food is all around. I found this Rojak Pasembur stall on Gurney drive, and while I can't say it was the best I've had, it was still an awesome experience because this Rojak Man loves his job and dances all day to the beat of whatever song is on the radio while chopping up the ingredients in the Rojak.
Malaysia has some of the best Indian cuisine and best street food in Asia because of it's multicultural core of Malay, Indian, and Chinese fusion.
I'm a huge indian food fan, and while this wasn't the best food in Penang, it was still worthy of trying out, and there are other stalls around too that make Rojak and Pasembur worth trying when done right. I love the Malaysian street food and it is what is going to keep me coming back for years to come.

Amazing Hand Pulled Noodles in China | Chinese Muslim Food

Lanzhou Lamian AKA Lanzhou hand pulled noodles are everywehere, and each restaurant has a very similar menu. These restaurants are usually very good for foreigners in China because they often have a huge picture menu all over the walls, so you can just point at what you think looks good. In this video, me and my local friend try two very amazing dishes. The dapanji also known as the Xinjiang big plate of beef, and then my other favourite noodle dish, the lamb and cumin on top of hand pulled noodles. These two dishes combined made a massive meal for two people.
So if you're a foreigner living in China or if you're just traveling in China for a short time, visiting a lanzhou hand pulled noodles restaurant is a MUST!
This restaurant was found in Chengdu near the SWUFE university, near the 3rd north gate (北三门). You can definitely find it, it's the blue one.

Chongqing Street Food With Locals | Sweet Potato Noodles
Chinese food is awesome! In Chongqing, you can find Chinese street food and all sorts of local specialties everywhere you go. These noodles were found in a tourist area yet had very local taste!

I was planning a trip to Chongqing for only one day, and did not intend on making a video, but just try all of the food as my time would be too limited. However, after sitting down in an alley to eat some street food; noodles, there were two girls beside me also eating the same noodles. I asked them if they always eat these and if they liked them, and then we started talking. It turned out that they had the whole day to explore and wanted to show me around. After a few hours traveling around with them, they told me that they both study videography and broadcasting in school, and then I mentioned my hobby of eating food and making videos. They were more than happy to help me out with this quick video before I caught my train that evening at 7:00.
If you visit Chongqing, you must see this little ancient town, known as little Chongqing, or as Ciqikou porcelain village. An ancient porcelain production spot, market town, and port. Now it is well preserved and has a lot of local specialty snacks. You can reach Ciqikou village very easy by taking subway line 1 and getting off at ciqikou station, it's that easy!
Chongqing is famous for it's hot pot and street food. There are so many things to try, and in my one day there, I can only say that I barely touched the surface. These suanlafen noodles were on the top of my list of food to try in Chongqing, as all my friends told me it was the most important thing to eat in Chongqing. The broth was sour, spicy, pungent, and the noodles were squishy, almost gooey, combined with the crunchiness of the soy beans and the tenderness of the big chunks of beef. What a nice meal!

Eating Juicy and Dripping Doner Kebab in Istanbul | Turkish Food
This doner kebab is a classic Turkish Food, a favourite of Istanbul locals. There is so many istanbul foods to try, but this one was one of my first. It was juicy and dripping red juice as the chef cut away layer after layer of heavenly lamb. You can find this as a turkish street food on the corners or you can have it at high class restaurants overlooking the city. I went for the middleground, and went to an average place that was recommended by a local friend.
In actuality, he told me that he has had better doner, but we had to settle for this one because the place with the best doner was closed for ramadan. As my first try of doner kebab and one of my first tries of Istanbul food, I was really happy with the outcome. Juicy, nice lamb flavour, just the right amount of fat, a little crunchy from pickles, and a good amount of mayo to give it that nice extra kick. BOOM!
The only complaint I had was the wrap was a little too much bread, I like a full mouthful of meat and less bread, but this had like half and half.
This restaurant was in besiktas. The famous place for doner that we wanted to go was here:

This place was right across the street from it.

Juicy Pork Baozi in Chengdu- Mindblowing! 包子
Baozi are a specialty in China and have many different varieties. I found my favourite variety here in Chengdu, where the bun is just slightly numbing and so juicy and fresh.

I was so happy to find these steamed baozi 包子 buns in Chengdu, they were so juicy and a little numbing. Watching them make them by hand and pinch the bun together is really satisfying.
The dough is made from scratch and mixed thoroughly in a mixer and then laid out flat on the table. It's covered with a little oil and then cut into strips which are then rolled smooth. Clumps of dough are then picked off and covered in flour and then flattened. Once flattened, they are filled with their specialty filling. In China, there are so many varieties, but here in Chengdu I managed to find my favourite.
The filling is made of fresh pork, pork fat, green onions, sichuan peppercorn, cooking wine, and chicken stock. Once its added to the flat dough it is all pinched together and steamed for about 10 minutes, and served steaming hot! So Delicious!

I made a weekend trip to Pengzhou, a small satellite town of Chengdu, in search of food and adventure. What I found, here at this street stall, was nothing short of magic. I'm actually fairly fond of tripe, as it has a clean and simple taste that's really nice when combined with chilies and cilantro.
So I was walking around with a friend, and we had the goal to eat and shoot some Chinese street food, a local street snack, but were unsure of what to shoot. As we walked past this smiling guy, cutting away at tripe and tongue and heart, I knew we found the spot.
So I put my camera bag down on a table beside the stall and approached him and asked him if he would mind if we could film a food segment of his stall. He smiled and replied "no problem, of course!", and was super happy to be filmed! The guy was just so happy and full of good energy that it really made the whole experience that much better.
I asked for his recommendation, and he made me a classic fuqifeipian, a famous Chinese street food in Sichuan that you can find all throughout the local neighbourhoods. It was chewy, spicy, salty, numbing, florally, and had a strong cilantro flavour throughout, which really made my day.

Here, I shot a video with a local Chengdu girl who wanted to eat some delicious fish with me. This Sichuan fish was prepared in Garlic and a "fragrant" broth, which was also quite spicy. It was really delicious. Sichuan food is awesome! I brought her here to this restaurant and it was the first time she tried that flavour! I would love to have that sauce on some chicken too haha!

Amazing Tibetan Food Feast - Eating In A Tibetan Home!
This Tibetan food in West Sichuan was THE BEST food I've had in China. Super heavy and extremely flavourful. I was super lucky to be able to eat at this family's home.

I felt lucky and grateful to visit this Tibetan home in West Sichuan, near the Siguniang mountain range. The Tibetan food was all delicious, and to experience the Tibetan culture was really an amazing experience!
I came to try the food and hike the mountains, and was staying at a guesthouse that was recommended by a friend in Chengdu (A Lee Ben Guesthouse). It was really slow and only had around 5 guests because it's not a very famous winter destination for Chinese people, which made the whole experience much better!
Every evening, instead of eating in the guesthouse, I was invited to eat with the family, which made various fresh Tibetan food that was a treat to experience and to taste!
I told the owner about my plans for finding and filming some delicious Tibetan food and asked him where I should go to eat it (Since I didn't want to burden his family by asking if I could film).
He mentioned that there is lots of delicious food in the area (Yak Meat, Tibetan Butter Tea, Blood Sausage, Cured Pork, and Wild Mushrooms), but that I didn't need to go hunt around, and invited me to eat AND film at his home with his family for some local food!
At this point I was extremely excited and happy to be able to eat and film local Tibetan food with this family. There was a wood fired wok, as well as a wood stove, which really brought a feel of authenticity to the whole experience. The butter tea was made in a long churn with tons of yak butter and was super sour, salty, and satisfying.
Eating the yak meat was also a really amazing experience. It was really chewy and had a smoky flavour to it but also tasted really earthy. It was covered in spice and Sichuan peppercorn which added a really nice touch to the flavour.
The most unique thing that I ate there was the Zanba, which was made by hand by the grandfather in the Tibetan family. A wild highland barley flour mixed with ghee was added to a nearly empty cup of Tibetan butter tea and mixed thoroughly with his middle finger. The tea mixed in with the butter and Zanba flour was squeezed into a finger sized nugget. These were super sour, salty, pasty, and dry, and were super high in calories from all the Tibetan yak butter.
After the meal I was full and really thankful to have such a wonderful experience. I gave a huge thank you to the grandfather as well as the son who arranged the whole meal for me.
So you're ever in Sichuan province and you want to see some mountains and experience some local Tibetan culture, make sure to come to the Siguniangshan mountain range, just a 7 hour drive west of Chengdu. Amazing mountains, beautiful landscapes, and an authentic place to experience Tibetan culture. Getting there is easy, just take 06:30 am bus from Chengdu Chadianzi bus terminal and get of at the Changping bridge (about 6 hours into the trip.) There are plenty of guesthouses in the area and any will likely be sufficient, but I really enjoyed where I stayed.

People's park is found directly in the centre of Chengdu, and is a famous park for it's lively dance square in the centre of the park, where hundreds of people gather to exercise and have fun. Mostly middle aged/elders come to this park, so it's an awesome place to get a feel for traditional Chinese activities.
People come here to dance, play majiang, play cards, sing karaoke, watch kung fu tea pouring ceremonies, watch dance shows, practice their calligraphy on the sidewalk with water brushes, drink tea, and most of all, relax.
With all these activities to participate in and watch, this park definitely stands out in Chengdu as one of the most lively and exciting parks to visit. This is NOT A quiet park, so if you come, make sure to come here for FUN! If you're looking for a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Chengdu, you can find it in this park in certain corners, but for the most part, it is very loud here!

Wenshuyuan temple is a great place to spend the afternoon exploring. There are so many different temples to explore and walk through, along with a huge park that you can walk through enjoying the fresh air.
Getting here is super easy. Just get off at Wenshuyuan 文殊院 station on subway line 1 in Chengdu, and take exit K. Go left and walk until you reach the temple, you can't miss it.

This fly restaurant was fully packed and offered some of the tastiest food I've tried in Chengdu. There's also no menu, you just grab the food off of a table or from a guy that puts it on the back of a bicycle!

This is Rural Chinese Food. Southern Chinese New Year Food FEAST!
I was super lucky to be able to spend Chinese New Year in Southern China, a 2 hour drive from Guangzhou, in a little village full of locals, eating an amazing feast of Chinese Food! The flavours were elegant and simple yet bold at the same time. Very refined!
I was invited to this village by a friend who was traveling back to her hometown for the Chinese New Year family reunion. When I arrived to the village, I was blown away at how traditional everything was and how the locals were so happy and kind hearted. I got to meet and chat with everyone in her family, and was shown around their home and told to make myself at home. This was a nice experience after spending time in Guangzhou eating Chinese Street Food.
I watched them cooking as they showed me how to make sweet and sour spare ribss and how to make chinese foods from southern china (Cantonese style cooking). They had an indoor kitchen and also were cooking outdoor using a massive wok! Watching them cooking and learning how to cook the way they do was an amazing experience.
The family took me in as their own, and even gave me a classic Chinese hongbao stuffed with cash!!! This was truly a experience that I will never forget! I feel so thankful!
My favourite thing was the sweet and sour spare ribs, and the boiled chicken dipped in the homemade sour and spicy chili sauce! It was legendary!

Eating At A Remote Temple Outside of Penang, Malaysia | Malaysian Food Treasures
Malaysia has some of the best food in Asia. Whether Malaysian street food or hawker food, it's all top notch in Georgetown. I came to Penang to eat and decided to leave Georgetown and find something a little different. After eating Penang street food for a week, I wanted to eat more street food, but somewhere else. I had a local friend bring me to a little temple in Bukit Mertajam.
Right beside the temple, there was a a couple small hawker stalls serving fresh noodles. I was so excited! When I saw the stalls I just new that we had to eat there and that it was going to be a fun experience, right in front of the temple!
We ate Bee Teh Bak, a fat and short rice noodle soup served with lean pork and fatty ground pork. It was really simple and hearty.

I visited this local market near the outskirts of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and found Chinese street food and the atmosphere to be mind blowing and exciting! It was truly an experience visiting this Chinese street market! So much food and Sichuan ingredients, so many flavours to try!

I visited this morning market on a Sunday morning in Chengdu at 8am with an empty stomach and money to blow with the goal of tasting foods and chatting with as many locals as possible. This is a true China experience. It was so busy, with so many people, so many things to buy and look at, tons of vegetables, meat, live chickens, live hens, live roosters, everything you could want really. Fresh handmade noodles, fresh Sichuan cold "liangbancai", and a huge meat market deli area with hanging pork and beef to choose from. All of the locals were friendly and talkative, although a bit surprised to see a foreigner walking through the area!
If you're visiting China as a tourist, you'll definitely want to take a walk through a busy morning market like this. There are countless street foods to try and people to chat to (If you speak a little mandarin). This market was mind blowing!
Rather than trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local market like this. This should be a top priority in my opinion!
Chinese cuisine is so diverse, and I consider myself lucky to be able to live in Sichuan, eating Sichuan food everyday, tasting all the top Chinese foods to try whenever I want. I've decided to stay living in China for at least another 2 or 3 years to get the feel of it and eat as much as I can!

Beautiful Scenery | Boring Sandwich | Exploring Istanbul with a local
I had a wonderful evening exploring the Bosphorus and trying a classic Istanbul food known as Balik Ekmek with my local friend. Unfortunately, the sandwich wasn't actually that delicious, but the scenery was amazing and in a very local spot. Please like: www.facebook.com/foodrangin

The Best Hawker Food in the World: Penang, Malaysia
The best hawker food in the world really is in Penang. So delicious! I was lucky enough to meet with a Penang local here and taste some classic Hawker food (A Hokkien Mee) and learn a little more about Malaysian Cuisine!

The Hokkien Mee dish is famous in Penang and can be had for as little as 4 rinngit (1.25 USD) and found throughout the city at many different hawker stalls.

Weld Quay Area, beside the Chew Clan Jetty. If coming from Old town, its a short 10 minute walk. Walk southeast on Lebuh Chulia street all the way until you reach the end near the water. Take a righ on the main road, and walk another short 2 minutes. You will see a large hawker center known as CF food court and you will see a small hawker center across the street. The small one is where you want to be to try these famous Hokkien Noodles.

Mouthwatering Meals in Malaysia | Lemang | The Food Ranger
Lemang is a traditional Malaysian snack made of glutinous rice, coconut milk and salt, and cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves.

It really is delicious! Sweetness from the coconut, saltiness from the beef "meat floss", and smokiness from the cooking process, which places the bamboo stalks on a slant over a fire.
It takes about 4-5 hours to cook lemang, and this vendor really knew what he was doing!This vendor was one of many found off the highway near Kuala Krai in the northeast of Malaysia.

Enter Noodle Heaven | Szechuan, China
Noodles in Szechuan are a staple food that can be enjoyed on almost every street. Come for a taste with me at a famous noodle joint here in Chengdu.

Here in Chengdu, I found this local noodle joint that serves up some really specific and unique noodles. The menu was on the wall and you just choose what you want and pay for them upfront.
I ordered 3 bowls:
1) The house minced pork noodles which were full of bean paste, sesame, chilies, and of course the freshest hot boiled noodles cooked to perfection. They had a strong sesame flavour which was really nice!
2) The specialty classic beef noodle soup, the 特使红烧牛肉面. It was a little spicy because this is Szechuan and wow it was nice!
3) The minced beef with red/green pepper noodles. These were SPICY, really SPICY! They were painfully enjoyable. Each bite got hotter and hotter and by the end of the bowl I was so happy but also in a lot of pain, and they also turned out to be my favourite in the end, winning over the sesame flavoured noodles.
4) I also ordered a bowl of steamed egg custard, and the fenzhengrou (Steamed spicy pork in rice flour) which were both really nice, the steamed egg custard was particularly smooth and enjoyable.
Overall this restaurant was a perfect representation of some of the noodles you can find in Szechuan. Although I did not have any DanDan noodles (担担面), I can say that this meal is a perfect introduction to Chinese food and Chinese noodles in general. Spicy, strong hints of bean paste, cilantro, sesame, just beautiful flavours!

Mountain Food in China | "Lamb Skewers" and Instant Noodles
Arriving in West Sichuan was a breath of fresh air compared to Chengdu. Huge mountains, fresh food, and very friendly people. I found this little shack on a day hike and enjoyed their "lamb skewers".

I had an amazing trip to the Siguniangshan mountain range, just a 7 hour bus ride west of Chemgdu. The air was unbelievably fresh, and the food was delicious too. After hiking for around 4 hours in the Changping valley, we arrived at a friendly shack where a lady was selling fresh and spicy lamb skewers and instant noodles. We couldn't say no, we were just so hungry from our hike!

This is a true China experience. It was so busy, with so many people, so many things to buy and look at, tons of vegetables, meat, live chickens, live hens, live roosters, everything you could want really. Fresh handmade noodles, fresh Sichuan cold "liangbancai", and a huge meat market deli area with hanging pork and beef to choose from. All of the locals were friendly and talkative, although a bit surprised to see a foreigner walking through the area!
If you're visiting China as a tourist, you'll definitely want to take a walk through a busy morning market like this. There are countless street foods to try and people to chat to (If you speak a little mandarin). This market was mind blowing!
Rather than trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local market like this. This should be a top priority in my opinion!
Chinese cuisine is so diverse, and I consider myself lucky to be able to live in Sichuan, eating Sichuan food everyday, tasting all the top Chinese foods to try whenever I want. I've decided to stay living in China for at least another 2 or 3 years to get the feel of it and eat as much as I can!

Malaysian Street Food in Penang | Incredible Roti Canai At Transfer Road
If you're new to Malaysian Food, a classic Malaysian street food you must try is the Roti Canai, made by Malaysian Indians, also known as Mamak food. Mamak simply means Malaysian Muslim Indian, and their food is what keeps me coming back to Malaysia to eat! There are also many Mamak stall restaurants that serve many other Indian influenced food throughout Malaysia.
This stall is famous for it's Roti Canai, which is an Indian influenced flatbread that is found throughout Malaysia! The one here on transfer road is very famous in Penang, known for it's curry. The Roti Canai bread combined with their mutton curry, chicken curry, and beef curry, which are all spicy and very tasty. If you come to Penang, you have to try out this awesome street food!
I'm so addicted to Malaysian cuisine! In my opinion, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca (Melaka) are the best places to sample Malaysian food. Kuala Lumpur street food is awesome, so is Penang street food, and Melaka Street Food is also out of this world! You can't go wrong! But out of these three destinations, my favourite overall is Penang, because cuisine in Penang somehow just has that upper edge, perhaps because my favourite foods in the world are Indian and Chinese, and Penang just has the perfect culinary culture to accommodate excellent cuisine within those two categories! You can find amazing Chinese food and Indian food in Penang, so you will never be disappointed if those are your favourite foods like me!

Pandas Playing at Chengdu Panda Reserve | Chengdu, What To Do?
Pandas playing and eating bamboo at the Chengdu Panda reserve. CUTE! You can see cute baby pandas playing on a slide, playfighting, drinking milk, and climbing trees too. They are so cute!
When in Chengdu, you must visit the Panda Research Base. The Panda Breeding centre has over 90 pandas, red pandas, and is in a beautiful park with over 200 acres of land to explore. There are giant pandas in all life stages, from baby to adult. The pandas are fed around 08:00 in the morning, and eat mostly bamboo. The adults are fed apples and also "panda bread", which is made of oats, rice, and vitamins. All of the pandas are cared for very well at this research facility and have a very good life!
Watching the pandas eating bamboo was actually really funny as well as cute. The pandas are so simple, incredibly lazy, and seem to be so happy with their life. They just lay around all day! Their lives are definitely better than ours! The baby pandas playing around was the most cute though, as they were play fighting, climbing trees, and some pandas even fell from the trees as they climbed, yet seemed unharmed and happy after the fall.
At present (May 2015) , holding a panda or sitting next to a panda is not possible. I believe there was an incident in the past and now they do not let you hold them anymore.
Make sure to arrive early (07:30 is when the gates open) to buy your ticket for 58 RMB ($9.60), as the pandas are sleepy after eating bamboo and the panda research base also fills up with people, lots of people, later in the day. Many people like taking a tour to the panda base, but I recommend taking a taxi early. No need to pay extra for nothing. Also, coming here after 10 or 10:30 is not worth it in my opinion.
Not only is it a research base, it's also a museum and conservation centre. You will enjoy your time here!
To get here, tell a taxi driver "熊猫基地" "xiongmao jidi". You can copy the characters onto a piece of paper or copy and paste the text from here and print it out onto a piece of paper and give it to your taxi driver. The fare should be around 60RMB or less from the city centre to the panda base.

Eating A Huge Turkish Breakfast in Istanbul

We went to the local Turkish Breakfast joint just up the hill from the Galata tower in Taksim, just down the street from Taksim square. It was called Van Kahvaltı Evi. We paid 60 TL for a full breakfast for two, complete with way too much food. Their menu was really extensive, and offered many local specialty foods. Here are some of the local foods that we tried on the street while enjoying the Istanbul lifestyle.
Turkish sausage + Scrambled eggs + Tomatoes
Pastrami fried eggs
Fried wheat flour
Tahini Molasses
Assorted cheeses
Tomatoes + Cucumbers
Nutella
Clotted cream
Sundried tomato paste
Turkish tea
Olives
And we were full! It was truly a wonderful meal! I fell in love with Turkish cuisine more and more after every meal I ate, and found Turkish people to be very friendly and hospitable. If you're thinking about visiting Turkey, go travel there for sure! If you are a local, you know that Turkey has some of the best food in the world!

Enter Curry Heaven | Amazing Indian Cooking, Indian Food in Penang, Malaysia
Indian Food is abundant in Penang. Almost everywhere you go, you will be able to find amazing Indian food. Whether on the street, or in a restaurant, you can't go wrong. I brought a couple local friends along with me to my favourite Indian restaurant in Penang!
To me, Indian cuisine is one of the best in the world. Whether indian street food, or indian cooking in a nice restaurant like this one in Penang, I'm in love. I brought these local friends here as a taste test to see whether they would agree that it is amazing food at Sri Ananda Bahwan. We all agreed! We also enjoyed trying indian candy!
In the future, I hope to eat the best street food in india, trying out market street food and indian recipe combos from locals and cooking with them as well, at least that is what the dream is! I would love to go to Dehli, Chennai, and Mumbai!
After spending 2 weeks in Penang, I ate at Sri Ananda Bahwan in Little India probably 5 or more times, it was that good!
Here is what we ordered:
Mutton Rogan Josh: This was an amazingly deep mutton flavoured curry, flowing with juices and quite creamy!
Mutton Punjabi: This was what they served when I asked for the spiciest curry they had! It was quite hot and burning but also very pleasant and smooth!
Tiger Prawns: These were huge prawns cooked in a mild curry.
Garlic Naan: Amazing naan bread to dip in the curries.
Fish Head Curry: This was a classic fish head curry that wasn't too spicy, stuffed with a big okra and also quite mild.
Banana Leaf: They serve you rice on a banana leaf, with three side dishes to mix with the rice, that are unlimited!
Tandoori Chicken: Amazingly pungent and flavourful tandoori chicken cooked in their own tandoori oven!
It was all topped of with popadom and mango lassi to wash it all down, a truly amazing meal!

Top 5 Chinese Foods You MUST Try | Best Food Of The Year!
Chinese food. Chinese street food. I love you. The cuisine I sampled in the last year living in China was unreal. I've combined my top 5 Chinese food picks into one video. I mostly eat Sichuan food, so there may be some bias, but believe me, the food I ate this year, whether Chinese street food or Chinese market food or eating at nice Chinese restaurants, I've narrowed down into 5 delicious picks for you!

Number 5:
"On the paper fish" - 纸上烤鱼 "Zhi shang kaoyu"
This is a grilled fish "on the paper", so that there is no charring of any ingredients and all the flavours of the spicy and garlicky broth are soaked into the fish. You also order additional ingredients, like eggs, lotus root, tofu, potato, cilantro, and greens. I ate this one in Chengdu. It's a great Chengdu food to try.
Number 4 - Leshan duck - 甜皮鸭 "Tian pi ya"
This is the famous Leshan "sweet skinned duck". It's stewed in ginger, onions, sugar, salt, star anise, Sichuan peppercorn, cinnamon, fennel, cloves, and cardamom. It's super easy and this is one of my favourite ducks in all of China.
Number 3 - Firewood Chicken - 柴火鸡 "Chaihuoji"
This was truly a magical experience. A whole chicken is chopped up and put into a wok heated by wood fire. It's boiled in a wok full of Sichuan broad bean paste and dried chilies, making it super spicy, juicy, and salty. The wok is full of other vegetable ingredients that you personally order. I ordered potatoes to keep it classic. The best part of the whole meal is when they take a dough and place it on the side of the wok and put the lid over it, making these gooey and sticky and crispy on the outside. So satisfying. Another great Sichuan food to try in Chengdu.
Number 2 -Xinjiang food
Xinjiang food is a huge culinary world that I can't say I've fully sampled. But what I did try in Urumqi was amazing. I had a meal at a traditional Xinjiang restaurant that was 3 main Xinjiang foods: Pumpkin and Lamb steamed buns, Xinjiang Lamb Kebabs, and A lamb and onion and black pepper "rounang" stuffed bread.
Number 1 - Tibetan food- "Xizang cai"
I tried this food at the four girls mountain range in Western Sichuan. This meal was so so satisfying and really rich and heavy. It consisted of spicy yak meat, fresh local potatoes, fresh local first growth forest hand picked greens fried up in a wok with yak butter, fresh tibetan "butter tea", and blood sausage. Yet the best part of this meal was eating with the local people of the area. They were so welcoming and friendly and it really felt like a once in a lifetime experience to just sit down and chat with them in their little living room heated by a wood stove in the coldest part of the winter. What a try experience!
