Right, so let’s start with what has been going on in the US here, on US campuses, which began at Columbia University in New York, but because of what has happened there, the reaction they’ve got, it has spread, such has been the horrified and appalled reactions by other students in the US and across the world actually as is beginning to take hold also. It began at Columbia, where the students have been protesting the administration there, the New York Times have put an article out reading: ‘College Protesters Make Divestment From Israel a Rallying Cry’, using the chant ‘Disclose, divest, we will not stop, we will not rest,’ demanding the school administrators do just that, the D form BDS, possibly the least understood word amongst Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, to divest is simply the opposite of invest, so pull all financial interests they might have in the state of Israel out and this has spread from Columbia, to Yale, Harvard, University of Southern California, Cornell and more. It’s a growing movement, though the divestment demands might vary slightly as this excerpt from the NYT shows: ‘What it actually means has varied in scope, and level of detail. At Yale and Cornell, students have called on the universities to stop investing in weapons manufacturers. Right, so the events following the Israeli attack on World Central Kitchen aid workers has revealed a shocking new twist, though perhaps an unsurprising one, that despite 3 of those workers being British, it didn’t slow down arms sales to Israel whatsoever, and in fact David Cameron and Kemi Badenoch actually signed off on continued arms exports to Israel just a week after those aid workers were killed. Already the Tories are under pressure to justify the ongoing arming of the Israeli state, especially in light of the fact they were fast enough to suspend funding to the UN aid agency UNRWA, which still hasn’t been restored, but now they need to answer the question, why is it that arms sales to Israel are worth more to the Tories than the lives of those starving to death as UNRWA struggles and worth more than the lives of those three Britons that the people you are still arming, had killed? Right, so this is an appalling story that naturally is not being picked up at all by mainstream sources but has instead been covered by the always excellent Declassified UK, who’s coverage has not only revealed that the engine of the drone that made that fatal attack on the World Central Kitchen aid convoy on Aril 1st was of British design, having been designed by a drone engine making company in the West Midlands, that was allowed to be purchased by Israeli arms manufacturers Elbit Systems, but that the Israeli arms manufacturer who made the actual missiles as well, have a factory here in the UK too. Now however, we know that this attack which killed three Britons, didn’t appear to slow down arms sales to Israel from the UK in the slightest and it’s thanks to a court case that all of this has come to light already. You see the UK government have been taken to court over these arms sales to Israel, that despite the genocide Israel has been carrying out for the last 6 months, getting on for 7 months now, they have not stopped those arms sales, it’s pretty much the only thing they haven’t stopped, because they certainly stopped aid funding fast enough, as soon as Israel decided to point to UNRWA, the UN aid agency, basically keeping life possible in Gaza, or had been until the events following October 7th, and said Hamas, at which point everyone who jumps in the shadow of the US promptly stopped funding them, bringing them to the verge of collapse, but I’ll come back to that in a moment. The court case had been brought by Global Legal Action Network, GLAN, and the Palestinian human rights group Al-Haq and the documentation this court case has revealed, make for some very interesting not to mention absolutely damning reading. Here’s an excerpt from Declassified UK’s coverage: ‘Documents provided to the court show that the UK government has conducted five legal assessments of the situation in Gaza since 18 December. One of those assessments, which covered the period 18 December to 29 February, was delivered to UK foreign secretary David Cameron on 28 March.
