Art Marketing and Art Business Tips Interview with Audra King
Art Marketing and Art Business Tips Interview with Audra King
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie have a very special guest with them, Audra King from She Loves Her Biz to chat with us about how to find the fun in your creative business again!!
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
Don't follow the 'shoulds'. And what are some ways to focus on what's important to you and not the 'shoulds'.
Omit the noise: perhaps take a break from Instagram or other social media.
To find the fun: the first thing to consider is what you want and then balance your schedule around that.
For Finding the fun in Marketing Audra recommends Brit Kolo's resource called "Marketing for your Personality Type".
Julie hates Networking who is an INTJ. So it is great to find things that DON'T work and then work towards what would work based on her personality.
Stephanie is an ENTJ - does a weekly artisan market show where she paints and talks about the paintings and pets. And while she's there collects email addresses to continue the relationship.
She doesn't have joy in Instagram but does in Facebook.
Rachel enjoys Facebook Group because of the interactions and Google Ads where there are no interactions.
For the negative comments, be above and beyond by providing the information or a link to the answer that was previously provided.
How to make sales fun?
The key question is: Does the energy you are putting in equal the compensation you receive?

NEW Artist To Watch
Elizabeth lzthcreative.com.
A watercolor artist who is inspired by nature.
Key talking points:
We do have support but it doesn't always feel that way.
Since COVID the spouses have gotten to see what is in an art business - and 'coloring', 'painting' doesn't appear like work.
Community is super important to break down to, support, or bounce ideas with.
With a community, you have to be vulnerable so people can help.
Voice what you need.
Search for groups on Facebook, local art leagues, and local art museum.
If you don't have time here is what we recommend:
Recognize that it is a season and it will change
Identify ways to save time (order groceries)

Procrastination, the artists evil. Do you succumb procrastination?
Source:
https://www.podbean.com/eau/pb-9aea2-1283564
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie discuss procrastination and what they do and don't do - perhaps this will resonate with you (I rhymed there :) !
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
Stephanie: her personality requires her to be doing something all the time, but she does find she procrastinates on painting because of potential interruptions
Jule: if she is the one setting the deadlines, she'll easily push it off. But if she owes it to someone, she'll stay on task.
This is where I coach or accountability can help you not push off the deadlines that move you forward.
Rachel's procrastination comes from going down rabbit holes, and squirrel moments.
Draw out the 4 quadrants to determine what is important and urgent to meet the goals (Urgent-Important, Urgent - Not important, Not Urgent - Important, Not Urgent - Not important)
Advice:Flip the narrative - make a goal of nos instead of yeses. Take the shots like Michael Jordan.
Advice:Take imperfect actions.
Advice: If you are really struggling moving forward find a coach that will hold you accountable, who specializes in your niche, and who is not a friend, who can be objective.
We'd love to hear what do you do to overcome procrastination, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

Learn How to Draw With Precision In Mere Minutes
🎨Want to learn how to draw with precision in mere minutes? Watch this short video 👆
When I first started drawing, I did like most people I know, we sat down with a pencil and paper and started sketching because that’s what the art teacher said to do in middle school. But there was generally something off about the drawing, and it resulted in a complete redraw or accepting the inaccuracy.
I cannot accept inaccuracy and I certainly didn't want to waste time!
It is just so frustrating when I was off a centimeter on the nose, it would look like a different person or the dog would look like it’s part poodle instead of a German Shepherd.
I wanted consistent accuracy.
Then I had a teacher show me a way to draw a grid which resulted in my first accurate children’s portrait!
Today I want to teach you the same drawing method…because I know if you’ve had difficulty getting an accurate drawing you’ll LOVE this method.
In this short video you are going to see:
✅ detailed instructions to create realistic drawings using the triangle grid method.
✅ what to consider when creating your grid
This is only 1 of 6 methods of drawing that I teach to gain an accurate drawing. If you’d like access to all 6 methods, check out the “Intro To Oil Painting Program”. Here: https://www.stephanieweaverartist.com/intro-to-oil-painting

Every artist takes on a subject or approaches art and art business differently because they are different. So is there really competition among apprentices?
Are interns the new apprentices?
Direct interaction cannot be replaced with a video. For a real internship or apprenticeship, you need to have a direct discussion.
What about coaching? Coaching is more for growing beyond what you are right now.
Quote "Our generation monetized the crap out of everything."
If you want to hire an intern or apprentice, you need to review your state labor laws.
We prefer to use FreeUp or Fivvr to handle the jobs we don't want to do.
Are we standoff because we don't want to be judged or should you be open about your process and the evolution of the piece?
What are your thoughts on all of this? Are you closed off or consider your process part of the creative journey you want to share, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

Print on demand and the rising shipping costs
Source:
https://www.podbean.com/eau/pb-tr83p-122d13a
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie discuss the rising shipping costs with Print on Demand and what they do to account for it! If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
We are increasing the cost to account for the increased pricing we are experiencing.
Art is a luxury item, so the target market isn't as susceptible to the increased prices.
As artists, you need to be smart business entrepreneurs and not absorb the costs.
It would be best if you did not profit from shipping.
Order prints or start a collaboration with a local printing company to save on shipping.
Consider switching materials for a more cost-efficient way of shipping.
What are you doing about the rising costs, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

It also depends if you are focused on SEO (search engine optimization).
It also helps with inventory
Why are artists so underpaid?
"Exposure"
Royalties range from 2- 8%, and if you have an agent they take 10-15%
1) Artists are doing it to themselves
we aren't negotiating or pricing their artwork to reflect their skill and experience level.
they aren't doing the research in the marketplace
2) there is not a natural selection to weed out the ones that aren't necessarily going to be a professional.
artists are given a stereotype that art doesn't have value,
Know the value.
