My message for this month was sparked by a conversation I had with a close friend and his wife in Tioga County. It truly exemplifies not only one of the reasons I started the STN movement but what I am seeing more and more as I witness the grinding down of the hopes and dreams of many of our compatriots. My conversation with my friend’s wife revolved around a question I asked her. You see, she had recently retired from her position as a rural delivery carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She had retired early, and I simply questioned why she had left her job sooner than she had planned. The response I received was not only shocking but disappointing as well. She related to me that in 2020 she had witnessed a truck full of election ballots coming through their post office in upstate PA bound for Georgia. She found this odd and somewhat upsetting at the time. However, she did nothing about it. Later on, she had another incident involving a mail-in ballot that she had picked up on her route. However, the individual who supposedly sent the ballot hadn’t lived in the area for seven years. This time she approached her supervisor about the issue and related her observation to him. The response she received was the last straw. She was asked if the letter had a stamp on it. Her response was yes. Her supervisor then told her that if it has a stamp on it, her job was to deliver it. That was it! No other questions or investigation. So, she quit. She retired at that point, and she now enjoys her retired life with her husband. That sounds like a nice, relaxing way to spend the rest of your life. And I certainly don’t fault her for making that decision. She had been “ground down” after witnessing things that had never happened before and should never happen again. But what could she do? She had no support; there was nowhere else to go. She truly felt hopeless and helpless. Many individuals I have spoken to recently feel that way too. However, as I said early on in our meetings, we must unify. That is the only way we can be effective. Fragmented, we can do very little, but as a unified front, we can accomplish a lot. It is important to understand, however, that we must have a plan, and we must work the plan. We saw this play out with STN’s efforts in our last school board elections. We also saw it with Mark Houck’s campaign, where ours was the only district in that election in which Mark won every district. That didn’t happen by accident. It occurred due to a plan put in place by teams that worked in concert to get the job done. So, I ask you, are you part of a team? Are you working with us to preserve your Second Amendment rights? Are you working to ensure that we have election integrity in our upcoming elections? Are you working on our Educational Keystone by helping put together our events? Are you engaging with our team to ensure that our school board is aware of and moving forward with the goals and agenda set by parents? Are you engaging with our team to make sure that we educate the public about the rampant sex trafficking crisis? If you are not, then why not? Is it easier to just complain or worry? God put us here for a reason. This all didn’t just happen! He has the plan, and we are a part of that plan. You are part of that plan. I know that you are busy, you have a lot on your plate with your job, your family, and life, but when will you engage and join a team? Will that be after it is too late? Once it is on your doorstep, it will be too late. You must become a part of the solution. If you stand idly by, then you are part of the problem, and you certainly have no right to complain! Remember, you may need to put your neck on the line as our Founding Fathers did. C.S. Lewis said it this way in The Screwtape Letters: “Pilate was merciful until it became risky.” And you see where that ended up. Ultimately it was a good ending, but he could have done more. Don’t end up like Pilate later in life, when it is too late, remorsefully acknowledging that, “I could have done more.” Thank you for being a part of the STN movement. Tune in for Shield of Truth Network’s Second Annual Senior Scholarship Awards Ceremony: STN’s Board of Directors was challenged this year to select the best high school senior essay written about the US Constitution. Last year we awarded one scholarship. This year the contestants were numerous, and all of the essays were excellent. Therefore, we narrowed the field to four submissions. As we move forward with future plans for STN, we need to stop for a moment and take a look at where we have come from and what we have accomplished in the last few years. I can tell you that we have come a long way from where we were originally when we met on the second floor of my office and then at the Carriage House Restaurant. You no longer have to watch me stand in front of you with papers routinely dropping on the floor (well, not as much perhaps) as I tried to inform our audience about what was happening and why we needed to unify, organize, and resist. We have developed into a well-organized, highly effective corporation thanks to the leaders who stepped up to assist in taking on many of the tasks at hand. This has allowed us to engage in the many battles that we have taken on over the last several years. Our leadership began their work by diligently and synergistically producing our mission statement and developing our core values as well. Utilizing those core values and with our mission firmly held, we have effectively impacted our community, our commonwealth, and yes, even our nation with much of what we have been able to accomplish. We have only been able to do so by utilizing the power and strength that we have tapped into through our first core value, our Biblical Foundation. We successfully held two rallies and brought in speakers from across the country, including the likes of Doug Mastriano and Presidential nominee Alan Keyes. We brought many individuals to speak to our members at our monthly meetings. The topics of review included information on human/sex trafficking, Second Amendment issues, Pro-Life, STN’s Candidates’ Night, and prepping information. We held our second annual STN Gun Raffle. We have also held onsite gardening, concealed carry, and firearms training classes. We also put on a six-week Constitution Class. While there are many more things that we have engaged in and brought to you, I know that we fulfill our third core value, our “Educational Keystone,” with everything that we do. Now it is time to look forward to what we will be accomplishing in the coming year. We have many exciting things to bring to you in the months ahead and through 2025. We are currently organizing a Kid’s Constitution Class, which is being planned for September. This class will be for middle school and high school-aged kids. It will be led by Dr. Rebecca Janney, who is an educator and period actor who will engage the kids and bring the Constitution to life for them. We have also been working with some individuals who share a passion for homeschooling, one of whom recently published a book on homeschooling. At our last meeting, STN’s Board of Directors approved the purchase of equipment to construct a video recording studio. With this new equipment, we will be posting and emailing interviews and video information about current topics of interest. This exciting new form of video media education will allow us to reach further than we have been able to up to now. This will also allow us to touch many who up to now did not have access to our information and programs. STN will also continue to bring you educational programs to assist you in preparing your family for the coming changes that will affect you, your pocketbook, and perhaps your livelihood. We are in the fight, and we are fulfilling one of the primary reasons for STN’s existence. That purpose is to unite like-minded individuals in order to create a synergistic effort to shift the trajectory of the events that we all witness every day! As a longtime aficionado of musical theater, I have appreciated the corollaries that I have seen in theater in relationship to situations many of us experience in life. One of those corollaries occurred in Les Misérables. For those who may not be familiar with the story, the main character is Jean Valjean. Valjean is attempting to lead a normal life after 19 years of hard labor in a French prison. He was convicted of stealing a loaf of bread for his starving sister and her family. After his release from prison, he unsuccessfully attempts to find work. He is ultimately taken in by a Priest. He is given shelter from the cold, food, and a warm place to sleep. Seeing an opportunity to make off with plunder from the church, he steals all of the valuable silver in the church and runs away in the middle of the night. Only to be caught and taken back to face the accusation of theft by the Priest. However, much to his surprise, the Priest gives him grace, trust, and love when he then also gives him not only the silver that he stole but the remaining two silver candlestick holders that he had missed. Valjean is given these words to follow by the Priest; “But remember this my brother, so you live some Higher Plan, you must use this precious silver to become an honest man.” He goes on to say; “… by the passion of the blood, God has raised you out of darkness. I have saved your soul for God.” Valjean then experiences a period of deep and visceral prayer, where he receives the strength of God to change his life. But, in order to do this, he must take on a new life and name, Monsieur L’avare. Unfortunately, this means he must break his parole. As a result, he is hunted by a relentless pursuer Javert, to whom he ultimately shares the same grace that was given to him. My point with all of my lengthy introduction today is to set the stage for who we are. You see, Jean Valjean spent the rest of his life resisting the torment of who he was. Was he Jean Valjean, Monsieur L’avare, or prisoner 24601? We have the same struggle at times. Are we capable and able to take on the tasks that we are called to do? We may question whether or not we have the ability, strength, knowledge, or time to do what we are called to do? These are the questions that many are grappling with today. You see, we know where our mission comes from? We know that He puts us in places and situations that seem way beyond what we think our capabilities allow at the time. However, we need to understand that when He calls us, it is our duty to answer. He stretches us, but He also provides us with what we need to accomplish His mission. Our obligation is to tap into His knowledge, wisdom, and strength in order to complete His mission for each of us. STN is engaged on many fronts right now. We have a dedicated group of leaders who have answered the call. We are touching the lives of many. We are growing and will continue to do so with your help. I simply ask for your help. That help can come in the form of your time, your skills, your financial support, or your input to move our mission forward. Please recognize that you cannot and must not wait. The time is now; we have reached what, in my opinion, is a critical turning point in our nation and our world. I feel that without your engagement the pendulum may never swing back. I will implore you not to sit on the bench waiting for things to change, or someone else to step up. The time is now! Jean Valjean used the grace given to him to change his life, to become a different person, to save, and change the lives of others. Although he had doubts and challenges throughout the rest of his life, he took the yoke that he was given by God and lived it each and every day for the rest of his life. So, I ask you; “If not now, when? If not you, then who?” Perhaps it is time to ask Him; “Who am I?”, or better yet; “Who do You want me to be?” That leap of faith is a challenging one for some, but I can tell you from experience that it is a rewarding one! Dr. Pfeiffer Christ has no hands but our hands to do His work today. He has no feet but our feet to lead us on the way. He has no tongues but our tongues to tell us how He died.

My wife said to me a few years ago, once the kids left the house, “What happened? We woke up one day and the world turned upside down?” I have to say, my response was truly an eye-opener. You see, I told her that what truly happened was we got so busy raising our two sons, with obligations in my office, and other family matters, that we lost track of what was going on, or better yet, we tried to keep abreast of the nefarious changes that we saw occurring, but we did nothing about it. We didn’t engage!!! This brings me to what we see today more and more. People see what is going on and complain a lot about it, yet do nothing other than simply complain, and therefore, nothing gets done to effectively fight against what they see. More than once, I have contemplated why this occurs. And I typically come to the same conclusion. People just become too darn busy. They are busy running the kids to sporting events (even on Sunday morning), shopping for the latest thing that we need, or worse yet engaging in wasting our time, energy, and hard-earned cash on lottery tickets or perhaps online sports betting that takes up our time. Watching sporting events on TV is another big distraction for many. But did we ever consider that perhaps these distractions may have been placed before us intentionally? Now, before I am labeled as the proverbial “conspiracy theorist,” consider a thought that might bring a few things into perspective. Have you ever considered that during Caesar’s reign in the Roman Empire, he had the Colosseum constructed? He then orchestrated the performances of the gladiators as a form of distraction for the Roman citizens, perhaps with the intention of distracting them from the other events and changes that were occurring during his reign. In that way, he was able to do many of these things right under their eyes. You see, the masses were distracted by the fun of watching the “teams” performing in the events which could last for weeks at a time. They also received bread which would be generously handed out to the spectators to keep them comfortably oblivious to the actions of their dictator, which again were occurring right under their noses. Perhaps we are all guilty of the same lack of attention to the important things that have been occurring right before our eyes for decades, and perhaps even generations. The corollary here is that in much the same way we have become too busy chasing after the American dream while that dream was being gradually and progressively taken away from us. We also had barriers taken down in order to allow many of our citizens to acquire some of the “trappings of success” more readily available to even those who can’t afford them. The buy-now-pay-later mentality that allowed us to acquire the shiny object while falling deeper and deeper into a debt hole that became insurmountable. Virtually creating more need to work longer hours of overtime or to take on a second job merely in order to keep the bill collectors off the front doorstep. Unfortunately, our congressional bureaucrats have done the same thing with our national debt. Creating a situation where approximately 66% of our taxes go to pay just the interest on our $34 trillion 596 billion dollar national debt!!! So, that brings us to the question that we all must answer; “What do we do about it?” Well, first of all, we must be aware. We must be informed citizens! We must get our house in order. Proverbs 13:16 tells us that a wise man uses knowledge in planning ahead. We also are told in Luke 14:28 that we should do our best to estimate costs before jumping into something to assure that we can pay for it. We must all work to get our houses in order and spend our time on those things that matter regarding the future of our families and our country. Our Republic is in trouble. STN is working hard to change the course of what we see occurring right before our eyes. We are doing this by engaging in the fight. And just what does that mean you might ask? We are working to educate and inform our membership, and our community, far beyond our geographic boundaries, about not just what is occurring, but what can be done about it. You see, by uniting in the fight we can synergistically magnify the effects of our efforts. We can make a change. We have exemplified this with what we have been able to accomplish with our local school board. And we continue to support not only these individuals but others in their efforts to move the needle in a commonsense direction as well. We are doing this now on a national level with the candidate that we are supporting for a congressional seat. We are also doing this by unifying against Second Amendment stifling efforts on a state and national level. We are told that we should be wary of those who wish to deceive us. It certainly is important for us to understand the definition of deceit before we journey further into this discussion. Deceit is defined as the act or practice of deceiving, concealment, or distortion of the truth for the purpose of misleading, duplicity, fraud, or cheating. It is also defined as something intended or serving to convey a false impression. The unfortunate truth, however, is that recognizing just who the deceivers are is often difficult. You see, they use techniques to hide their deception. As an example, they may use phrases or slogans to make you think that they agree with you or are like-minded. They may say something to the effect of; “I can help you”, or “I understand”, or “I know just how you feel”. This is done in order for you to lower your defenses. However, you must be able to see through the deception. We should know about these deceivers. We certainly have been told the truth and we have also been warned about such deception. Matthew 7:15 tells us to; “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” I have worked diligently to observe and eliminate deceivers in STN. I have said from the inception of the Shield of Truth Network Inc. that there is no place here for egos or hidden agendas. And yes, it has been necessary to root out deceivers over the last several years. Those who wished to subvert the core values of STN. But we must hold strongly to the truth and remember what we have been told as is noted in 1 Timothy 4:1 which warns us again by telling us that; “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” We are also told that we must put every potential deceiver to the test. As we see in 1 John 4:1 which tells us; “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world”. Also, in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 we are told “But test everything, hold fast to what is good”. I felt led to warn us all about this concern through recent events which I experienced. A deceiver tried to gain my confidence, however, my “deceiver radar” was up, and this individual was forced to reveal the truth. You see, as Christian Brothers and Sisters, we can all be compelled to be perhaps a little too trusting, particularly in these contentious times in which we live. The old adage “Trust but verify” is something that we all need to be cognizant of today more than ever perhaps. You see, if we are not diligent in our discernment, we will be led down the wrong path, not intentionally on our part, but by the gradual and progressive drip of deceit. This may, in turn, lead us into a trap from which we would have a great deal of difficulty in escaping. I would like to end with 2 verses to consider this month. The first is from Psalm 5:6; “You destroy those who speak lies; The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.” The second verse is from Psalm 101:7; “No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.” Please be diligent in your observation of others. Keep your eyes wide open, and your ears perked. The spirit will guide you. When you hear that voice in your head telling you that something isn’t right, or you feel that something is not as it should be, please listen.
