Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Luke 18:9-14
The objective of comparison is always to find fault with others so that they can feel superior by comparison. Judgmental individuals who rely on their own virtue to gain God's favor would naturally develop a judgmental attitude toward others. Jesus concludes that, for God to exalt us, we must be willing to recognize and admit our unworthiness before him. The Gospel of Luke is the culmination of the teaching recorded by Luke during Jesus' journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. This chapter addresses the question of faith as the only way to be saved.
Jesus provides the disciples with the answer to the dilemma he had just highlighted. Faith is essential for connection with God, but faith will not reign on earth when Jesus returns. The remedy is to surrender confidence in ourselves and place all confidence in God via His Son.

A Servant Is Humble
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:3-8)

Parable of The Wheat and The Tares
Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Matthew's parables are intended only for Jesus' disciples because they concern kingdom work that only they can perform. The moment Jesus describes here occurs at the very end of this age, just as this age ends and the next one begins. It will have reached the end of a seven-year period of unparalleled supernatural judgments in the history of the world. Matthew's parable of the Master and Tares shows that atheists can mimic the claims and actions of Christians. The main point of this parable is that the master instructs us not to uproot the wheat.
Since the master was unwilling to lose even a single wheat plant, he ordered that no wheat plants be lost. You and I are the wheat stalks; Jesus' primary goal in sowing this world's field is to bring each of us into the Kingdom. Christians who fail to bear fruit are those who are distracted and troubled by the world. They neglect their walk with Christ; they fail to devote time and energy to the work of the Kingdom; and they don't produce fruit. The enemy works to diminish the Lord's harvest, but the Lord allows it because He cares for you.

Monumental
Monumental
Monumental Bible Study: http://www.monumentalmovie.com/images/biblestudy.pdf
America's origins are recounted in Monumental. The 90-minute real story follows this father of six across Europe and the United States as he searches for America's actual "national treasure"—the people, places, and ideals that made America the world's most free, affluent, and charitable nation.
Monumental is praised for being "inspiring," "beautifully executed," "powerful," and "intended to educate."
Long considered as "the land of opportunity," there is no doubt that the small group of religious outcasts who formed this country discovered a recipe for prosperity that went far beyond their wildest expectations. How else can you explain the fact that they founded a country that has become the finest example of civil, economic, and religious liberty in the history of the world?
What was the formula they discovered? What prompted their arrival in the first place? How can we apply these same fundamental principles to the present?

Kirk Cameron
Kirk Thomas Cameron is an American actor and evangelical Christian who was born on October 12, 1970. He is best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains (1985–1992), for which he received two Golden Globe Award nominations.
Cameron made numerous television and film appearances as a child actor throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including roles in the films Like Father, Like Son (1987) and Listen to Me (1989). He played Cameron "Buck" Williams in the Left Behind film series and Caleb Holt in the drama picture Fireproof in the 2000s (2008). Saving Christmas, his 2014 film, was lambasted by critics and hit the IMDb Bottom 100 List within a month of its release.
Cameron is an evangelical Christian and a partner of Ray Comfort in the evangelical ministry, The Way of the Master. He co-founded The Firefly Foundation with his wife, the actress Chelsea Noble.
Early life:
Cameron was born in Panorama City, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. His parents, Barbara (née Bausmith) and Robert Cameron, a retired schoolteacher, are his grandparents. He has three sisters: Bridgette, Melissa, and Candace Cameron Bure, well known for her role as D.J. Tanner in the Full House television series. As opposed to a "regular" public or private school with many other pupils, he attended school on the set of Growing Pains. Nonetheless, he studied during production breaks and graduated with honors from Chatsworth High School in 1988.
Early career:
Cameron began acting at the age of nine, and his first work was in a breakfast cereal advertisement. At age 13, he had his first starring part in the television series Two Marriages. He appeared in numerous television programs and films at this age. In 1985, he rose to fame after being cast as Mike Seaver in the ABC sitcom Growing Pains. In the series, Mike would eventually date Kate MacDonald, portrayed by Chelsea Noble, who would eventually marry Cameron. Cameron became a teen idol in the late 1980s, appearing on the covers of numerous teen publications, including Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, 16, and others. During that time, he earned $50,000 every week. He also appeared in a 60-second Pepsi advertisement during Super Bowl XXIV.
Cameron also guest-starred in the 1988 episode of Full House titled "Just One of the Guys" as the cousin of Candace Cameron's character, D.J. Tanner.
Cameron went on to star in other films, including 1987's box office hit Like Father Like Son (a body-switch comedy opposite Dudley Moore). Listen to Me, his next theatrical release in 1989, performed poorly at the box office. After Growing Pains concluded in 1992, Cameron went on to star in the WB sitcom Kirk, which debuted in 1995 and ran for three seasons. In Kirk, Cameron portrayed 24-year-old Kirk Hartman, who must parent his siblings. Cameron and Noble collaborated on the production of Kirk.
2000–2010:
Cameron largely abandoned mainstream film and television, although he starred in a Growing Pains reunion film, The Growing Pains Movie, in 2000 and another, Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers, in 2004. Cameron reunited with the actors from Growing Pains for a CNN Larry King Live interview that aired on February 7, 2006, in partnership with Warner Bros. Cameron has also portrayed Cameron "Buck" Williams in the Christian-themed films Left Behind: The Movie, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force, and Left Behind: World at War. Noble, Cameron's wife, co-starred in the film series as Hattie Durham. Cameron has appeared in various Christian-themed films produced by Cloud Ten Pictures, including The Miracle of the Cards.
Fireproof, a 2008 drama film produced by Sherwood Pictures, featured him as well. Cameron portrayed Captain Caleb Holt in the picture, which had a budget of $500,000 and he was the primary actor. The picture grossed $33,415,129 despite its modest budget and was a box office triumph. It was 2008's highest-grossing independent film.
2010–present
Cameron was the host and narrator of the 2012 documentary Monumental: In Search of America's National Treasure. On its first day of release, March 27, 2012, Monumental earned $28,340. The picture remained in theaters until May 20, 2012, and grossed a total of $1,230,000.
Cameron stated in 2013 that he would host the film Unstoppable, which was scheduled for release on September 24, 2013. Cameron hypothesizes that the film's trailer was prohibited on Facebook due to the film's religious nature. Facebook subsequently removed the block, citing an error by an automated system and the registration of a spam website at the same web address.
Cameron acted in and produced the 2014 family picture Mercy Rule, in which he portrayed a father attempting to preserve his small firm from lobbyists while supporting his son's desire to become a Little League baseball pitcher. In the film, which was released via direct-to-video and digital download, Cameron's real-life wife plays the role of his wife.
Cameron also starred in the 2014 Christian-themed comedy Saving Christmas. Critics hated the picture, and it won the 2014 Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. Because of his "ego," Cameron also received the honors for worst actor and worst screen combination.
Cameron was featured in Extraordinary, a 2017 film produced by students at Liberty University that was the first of its kind to be distributed nationally (for one night in September 2017). The video chronicles the aspirations of a marathon-running professor at Liberty University whose cross-country journey challenges his body and marriage.
In the 2018 documentary film Connect, Cameron assists parents in navigating the perils of technology, particularly social media, for their children.
In 2019, he appeared in an episode of the Netflix sequel to Full House, Fuller House.
Evangelistic ministry:
Cameron collaborated with fellow evangelist Ray Comfort to teach evangelism techniques through the ministry they co-founded, The Way of the Master, and through Cameron's co-hosted television program of the same name. For two straight years, it earned the National Religious Broadcasters' Best Program Award. Additionally, it formerly included the radio program The Way of the Master Radio, hosted by Todd Friel. Later, the radio program was terminated and replaced with Friel's Wretched Radio. Cameron and his wife launched The Firefly Foundation, which operates Camp Firefly, a free summer camp for terminally ill children and their families.
On May 5, 2007, Cameron and Comfort participated in a televised debate with Rational Response Squad atheists Brian Sapient and Kelly O'Conner. It was moderated by Martin Bashir of ABC, and portions of it were broadcast on Nightline. At issue was God's existence, which Comfort claimed he could demonstrate scientifically without recourse to faith or the Bible. The audience consisted of both theistic and atheistic individuals. Discussion topics included atheism and evolution. While Sapient claimed during his arguments that Comfort violated the rules by mentioning the Ten Commandments, Cameron later stated on The Way of the Master radio show that the rules of the debate did not state that the Bible could never be referenced; rather, Comfort was required to present one argument that did not reference the Bible or faith. Cameron used the absence of a crocoduck to question the theory of evolution during the discussion, which later became a meme highlighting misconceptions about the subject.
On American college campuses in November 2009, Cameron and others distributed free copies of a modified edition of Charles Darwin's Across the Origin of Species. The book was comprised of Darwin's text with omitted chapters and an introduction by Ray Comfort that reiterated creationist claims about Darwin and evolution. Scientists and Darwin biographers questioned the deletion of essential chapters and noted that the book's introduction contains inaccuracies about Darwin and long-disproven creationist assertions regarding the theory of evolution, such as the connection between Nazi racial ideology and Darwinist beliefs. Later, Comfort stated that the four chapters were chosen at random to be omitted in order to make the book affordable as a giveaway, with the absent chapters available for download, but that the missing chapters were included in the second edition, which had a smaller text size that made printing the entire book affordable as a giveaway. The second edition lacks a preface by Darwin and a glossary of words. The National Center for Science Education organized a campaign to send an analysis of the Comfort introduction and a banana bookmark to U.S. colleges, a reference to Comfort's use of the banana as evidence for God's existence.
Cameron claimed on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight on March 2, 2012, in response to a question regarding homosexuality, that it is "unnatural, harmful, and ultimately destructive to so many of the pillars of civilization." Cameron's remarks were criticized by GLAAD and prompted a backlash from gay rights advocates and Hollywood celebrities, including Growing Pains co-stars Tracey Gold and Alan Thicke, as well as Roseanne Barr, Craig Ferguson, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Piers Morgan claimed that Cameron was courageous for expressing his opinion, despite the outdated nature of his beliefs. Supporters, though, sent him "thousands of emails and comments." Rosie O'Donnell wanted him to share his opinions on her talk program, but he rejected it and proposed a private meal instead.
At Indiana Wesleyan University, he was honored by being admitted into their Society of World Changers on April 11, 2012, during a ceremony on IWU's campus at which he spoke.
Conversion to Christianity:
Cameron was an atheist during his early teenage years. At age 17, amid the height of his career on Growing Pains, he converted to Christianity.
After converting to Protestant Christianity, he demanded that the Growing Pains narratives be modified to remove any material he deemed too mature or inappropriate.
Cameron lost contact with his former co-stars and did not talk to Tracey Gold for eight years after the series was canceled. Cameron has indicated that this decision was not motivated by anger toward any of his former co-stars, but rather by his desire to start a new life away from the entertainment industry and the lifestyle he had led for the past seven years.
Prior to the premiere of The Growing Pains Movie in 2000, for which the entire main cast was reunited, Cameron expressed regrets over how his relationship with his castmates had changed following his religious conversion during the production of the series, stating, "I definitely made a 180-degree turn, turning toward another aspect of myself." I moved my concentration from 100 percent on the program to 100 percent on [my new life], leaving even the friendships that were a part of the show with zero percent of my attention. If I could go back in time, I believe I would have made decisions that were less accidentally harmful to the cast, such as communicating with them and explaining why I just wanted my family at my wedding.
COVID-19 views:
In the year 2020, Cameron questioned the origins of COVID-19, stating, "Something doesn't seem quite right about all of this." In addition to the presence of a very dangerous virus, there is something else going on. I do not know who all the participants are or how anything works. He also opposed the public health regulations put in place to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, "Socialism and communism are knocking on our doors... dressed as public health and social justice."
As hospitals were overrun by record-breaking levels of COVID-19 infections in late December 2020, Cameron organized at least two gatherings of dozens of individuals to sing Christmas carols without masks as a protest against increased restrictions imposed to combat the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The events were hosted outside, in locations such as a mall parking lot in Ventura County, which is part of the Southern California Region, a collection of counties under a state-mandated stay-at-home order precipitated by inadequate ICU capacity. Barbara Ferrer, director of public health for Los Angeles County, criticized Cameron's choice to hold big gatherings as "extremely reckless and quite dangerous."
Cameron hosted an outdoor, mask-free New Year's Eve singing and prayer gathering in Malibu, ignoring state senator Henry Stern's suggestion that he remain at home alone.
Personal life:
Cameron and his wife, Growing Pains co-star Chelsea Noble, were married on July 21, 1991. They currently have six children: four adopted: Jack (born in 1996), Isabella (born in 1997), Anna (born 1998), and Luke (born 2000); and two biological: Olivia (born in 2001) and James (born in 2003). Parable of The Revealed Light
Parable of The Revealed Light
Servant.podcast
Parable of the Sower and the Seed demonstrates that a Christian cannot be content with a life surrounded by thorns and weeds. Each of us begins there, concealing our light. Nevertheless, avoid remaining a closet Christian or a self-centered one. We spend too much time as a culture on the wrong things, including the wrong spiritual matters. There is a consequence to ignoring our responsibilities in this area. In verses 17 and 18, Jesus issues a warning to those who disregard this message. Luke 8:17-18 "There is nothing hidden that will not become apparent, and nothing secret that will not be revealed." Therefore, be mindful of how you listen, because whoever has will receive more, and whoever does not have, even what he believes he has, will lose it. If we bury our witness, fail to bear fruit, or remain a closet or self-centered Christian, Jesus warns that there will be no secrets on the day when everything is revealed. Unbelievers' true nature will be revealed, and Christians' work will be evaluated. We cannot begin to comprehend eternity because we live in an age where everything has a beginning and an end. When we pass beyond this life, we enter a time and place where we are confronted by eternity. There will be no transitions or deaths. Just endless time. Jesus says our future experiences will depend on what we accomplish in the coming decades.

Parable of The Sower
Parable of The Sower
Servant.podcast
It's possible that the disciples were so taken aback by the parable that they finally decided to ask the question they'd been pondering for some time. Why did Jesus' teaching take the form of riddles? Wasn't he attempting to educate the public? Isn't it true that he didn't want people to hear what he was saying? Jesus responds that the disciples were to understand the meaning of Jesus' teaching, but that not everyone would. The truth would come to them in parables and would be inaccessible. It will pique their interest, draw their attention, and perplex them. They might make some sense of it, but the true meaning will elude them in the end. The truth will only be revealed to those who are meant to know. Understanding this principle is critical because it connects the rest of this chapter, and indeed the entire gospel, together. We shouldn't be surprised if God withholds understanding from us on more difficult issues in Scripture if we are unwilling to devote ourselves to the hard work of hearing and learning God's word, and this fact leads us to the other reason they don't understand. All men are born with Adam's nature. Our fallen nature, which we inherited from Adam, prevents us from hearing and responding to God's truth. God must first act to open the hearer's ears to pay attention to the message before they can have ears to hear. Jesus Himself gives us the big picture in this parable. The seed, according to Jesus, is the Word of God. The Word of God is the thing that is distributed so freely, casually, and even recklessly. As a result, we are immediately confronted with a parable about how God's Word is spread and the impact it has on those who hear it. This is an important message for the disciples and the audience as a whole. Why do people react to God's Word in such disparate ways? In Jesus' day, His words were the words of God, so the issue was how the crowds and religious leaders personally responded to Him. In our time, the Bible is the Word of God, so the parable explains how people respond to Jesus in the form of the Bible. However, the parable's truth is applicable in either case.

Parable of The Fig Tree
Parable of The Fig Tree
Servant.podcast
Paul addresses those throughout history who persecuted Christians. In Matthew 24:28, Jesus discusses this group's fate. God commands the earth's birds to gather and consume the bodies of the many people who will be killed upon the return of Christ. The elect will be gathered by angels from all four corners of the earth and transported to Jerusalem. When the Lord Jesus Christ returns, he will be accompanied by all the saints (the entire Church).
This raises the question of how the Church ascended to heaven prior to the return of Jesus. Paul also recalls this third group, which consists of the church saints who accompany Jesus. Before Christ's return, preparations have been made for the marriage of the Bride of Christ to the Lamb. No Church Saints will be absent at that time, indicating that not only deceased believers will accompany Jesus at His return, but all Church Saints will also be present. When and how does the entire church, living and dead, ascend to heaven prior to the return of Christ?
Jesus refers to this day as "the coming of the Lord," implying His Second Coming. However, we know that Jesus is not referring to that because the circumstances of the present day are so different. According to Jesus' explanation, we will examine this special day in three parts.
According to Revelation, Jesus will return at the end of the seven-year Tribulation. This day is radically distinct from the day of His Second Coming because the circumstances are diametrically opposed. God informed Noah in Genesis 6 that he would destroy all life on earth within 120 years, and he instructed Noah to construct an ark to save himself and his family. When Jesus states that "that day" will occur during the days of Noah, he cannot be referring to His Second Coming. Even though Jesus refers to this day as the return of the Lord, it is a day that is radically unique.
It is a return to deliver the Church to heaven before the Tribulation's judgments in order to save the Church. The example of Noah will be revisited as we move into the second portion of this day: how it unfolds.

The "V" and The Beast
If God is the God of our life, we can believe what the Bible says over the COVID drama that has consumed this country. Now is the time to rise up and say that we will never give any government access to our bodies. Our genetic material was written by God, and we will not allow anyone to change it. Our bodies are His temple, and His spirit will naturally defend us from this alleged ailment. You don't have to be a Christian to be skeptical about the COVID story. Again, 55,000 doctors believe that we will all benefit from natural "herd immunity." So, now is the time to shine a light on a different narrative for everybody to hear.
One that restores God to his rightful place on the throne, so that we are no longer "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive." People will be let back into the church. Instead of becoming a stepping stone towards Satan's ultimate goal, we shall be the rock upon which God builds His kingdom. May God pierce our hearts and the church awaken, because time is running out. Jesus is on his way.

The Sermon on Mars Hill
Paul was unconcerned with Jewish leaders or Judaizers in Athens, the center of culture, religion, and philosophy. He did, however, discover the challenges of confronting the intellectual community with the gospel, particularly the resurrection. He resisted the temptation to dilute his message. The city's idols disturbed him, particularly one labeled "To the Unknown God." Though he began his ministry with Jews and Gentile proselytes, it wasn't long before Paul drew the attention of philosophers. His preaching in the agora, or marketplace, piqued the intellectual community's interest and elicited a strong reaction.

Peters Sermon
We return to a crucial moment in the Book of Acts in this episode. The Spirit had shown Himself in the middle of the throng, bringing with him distinct demonstrations of His power. We realize that these manifestations generated two different reactions from the onlookers. We'll return to the two answers before moving on to the second part of the chapter. However, "we must first retrace our steps through the text's main problem." That is why the Spirit continues to come long after these men become Christians, all the more so since God's pattern has changed. God is making an effort to imprint this day on our memory. This is the last day of the Feast of Weeks, often known as Pentecost. As such, it is essential for Christians throughout history to recognize that God created a distinct Holy Spirit mission. All Christians would thereafter experience a personal indwelling of the Spirit, which we call the baptism of the Holy Spirit or the Baptism of Fire.

The Christian Judge
According to Jesus in Matthew 7:2, "what you judge will be judged back to you." This is a classic illustration of what happens when we take a verse out of context and separate it from its intended meaning. Anyone who believes that believers can never judge another person's sin is seeking permission to sin. Matthew 7:1 When Jesus said, "Do not judge," he clearly did not mean to ban all forms of accountability. He was not pleading with us to turn a blind eye to sin in Christ's body. His sermon was about true righteousness, which can not be achieved by adhering to man-made standards such as the Mishnah of the Pharisees. The Mishnah regulated all facets of Jewish life, ostensibly to ensure that Israel adhered to God's Law. All of these are, by definition, "judgments". By our faith alone, all believers have been credited with Christ's righteousness. The temptation is to pass judgment on one another's righteousness under the guise of God's judgment. On my best days, my walk may come close to resembling true righteousness. And on my worst days, you may doubt my salvation. Not at all. Jesus said, "Do not judge one another in this manner," according to 2 Peter 2:2. The Lord has already given His Spirit to every believer, as well as all of God's Word, to bring them to righteousness. How much leverage do you have with your scorn or guilt trip to compel obedience from other believers? How much assistance do your judgments and advice provide? When we pass judgment on others, we obstruct our own path of righteousness. When we do so, we become hypocrites similar to the Pharisees, forgetting that we are all in need of God's grace to be justified. The last thing any struggling Christian needs is to be burdened with additional rules, particularly those that are superfluous. Judging others feeds our arrogance and promotes self-righteousness as well as hypocrisy. On a good day, none of us will achieve Christ's perfection in our walk, but we will come close. No believer in this congregation is more acceptable to God than another. Judging others in these ways does not constitute judgment of their righteousness or their worth before God. Do you hold other believers to a standard of perfection? You'd be wise to be prepared to be flawless. That is how God views us when we pass judgment on another's weakness. We would be governed by unholy, ungodly individuals who would portray themselves as God's gatekeepers. This is a direct contradiction to everything that Christ has taught in this sermon. While we are commanded to hold one another accountable for sin, this does not imply that we're commanded to judge one another's righteousness. However, not by examining another person's righteousness. Again, the point is that we all have flaws, and we all require assistance in order to obey, which is the role of the Body of Christ. Additionally, there is a biblical model for assisting one another in surviving a greater number of obedient, righteous lives.

Teach Us To Pray
Luke 11:5–13 God’s seeming unwillingness to answer our prayers can leave us feeling bewildered and impatient. Jesus gives insight into the character of God and why we should talk with him. Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them to pray (Luke 11:1). In reply, he told a story about a man who pestered a neighbor for help, with an unexpected twist (11:5–8). In the end, it was the man’s persistent requests, and not the neighbors’ mutual friendship, that led to the man’s success in getting his neighbor’s help—a turn of events that still baffles readers today. Does this mean that we can bug God into giving us what we want? Does it mean that he is more motivated by getting us off his back than he is by his love for us when he answers our prayers? The answer to both questions is no. What the story makes clear is that our freedom to ask does not dictate God’s response. He is not a servant waiting for a list of tasks we want accomplished. Nor does he rely on us to define our needs, outline solutions, or say when or how he should act. Our all-knowing and all-wise God does those things for us. However, God is eager for His children to develop a habit of talking with Him, including asking Him for help (11:9, 10). That doesn’t mean he will be guided by our limited understanding of a situation and its possible solutions (11:11–13). He asks us to trust him to know what is needed and when. Our calling is to ask—even persistently—and to grow in the process. One of the most surprising benefits of prayer is how much we change when we talk regularly with God. Sometimes that, in itself, is the answer to our prayers.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
Throughout this parable, Jesus encourages his disciples to pray and not become weary or discouraged. In other words, Jesus wanted to give the disciples a reason not to give up or become discouraged in their assigned work. that they should continue to pray in their afflictions. Jesus had given the disciples a grim report of what to expect in the days immediately before his return. A depraved world where the enemy seemed to be taking control. And even though the disciples had no idea how long it would be prior to Jesus’ return, When persecution comes, don’t lose heart, don’t grow weary of keeping the faith and doing the master’s will. Considering what they faced during their lifetime, it would be natural for the disciples to grow tired and discouraged. The disciples all suffered martyrdom, as well as many other trials on the road to their deaths. They must have all presumed that the Messiah's arrival on earth would usher in peace and justice. It would be demoralizing all by itself to think that it wouldn't happen for awhile. Therefore, discouragement would have been easy to experience. However, discouragement is not exclusive to the disciples.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son
The older brother of the prodigal son demonstrates what can happen when people are around religion for a long time. Unlike his father, who expressed relief and mercy for his brother's returning home, the older brother was horrified by the celebration held in his honor. His jealousy went beyond jealousy. His fury swept over him. As a result, his father suffered and his son wasted the family's valuable assets.
On the surface, those feelings make sense and could have been based on love for his father. But further reading shows that this son had missed the blessings his father had been bestowing on him. That was the attitude of the Pharisees who first heard Jesus tell this story. It became the view of Jews in general as the Good News spread to the Gentiles. How could Jesus be so friendly toward sinners yet so distant from people who carefully practiced the finer points of the Law? How could God show compassion toward the Gentiles while bypassing the Jews, who had been his people for generations?
It might feel as if everyone overlooks people who make a lifelong habit of obeying God. It may seem like new followers of Jesus with gruesome pasts get all the attention. To everyone who feels underappreciated, Jesus’ parable supplies both a comfort and a challenge. The comfort is that God never forgets who His children are. He blesses them continually. He has great treasures stored up for them.
The challenge is that they need to maintain the right perspective. Every one of their godly choices brings great good. We will never stop needing the Father’s compassion and mercy to make these choices and to recover from the bad ones. And when they comprehend that, they will find it easier to watch others connect or reconnect with the Father’s heart.
