A Conversation about the Catholic Church and Sexual Abuse, Two Children's Books, and Jewish Culture.
Mark Bello was a civil justice attorney who primarily dealt with auto accidents, police brutality cases, medical malpractice cases, workers' compensation cases, and helped people fight insurance companies. However, early in his practice, he handled a case where a couple of kids were abused sexually by a Catholic priest, which troubled him deeply, not just because of the priest's actions but because of the way the church behaved, such as transferring offenders, hiding witnesses, covering up prior incidents by the same priest, and avoiding consequences. He promised himself that he would write a book about this, and eventually, he did. Betrayal of Faith, the first book in his legal thriller series, is about a couple of kids who are sexually abused by a priest. The Catholic Church covered up such incidents, transferred predators to communities who didn't know they were predators, and the cycle began all over again.
Bello discusses his legal career and how he transitioned to writing fiction and children's books with social justice themes. He explains that he wrote a book about a biracial child who experiences racism and bullying at school and another book about the dangers of texting while driving.
The conversation ends in discussing changes in the news media over the years. Mark Bello and Sean Dustin discuss how the news was delivered in the past and how it has changed to become more opinionated and slanted towards specific views. They mention that the news has become more like infotainment rather than a nonfiction account of events. They also talk about the need for accountability in media and the rise of independent media sources. The conversation then moves to politics and the need for politicians to work together for the country rather than fighting over political distinctions. They mention that national politics can be a huge distraction, and it is essential to pay attention to what is happening in your own community where things actually make a difference.

Coast 2 Coast: Elevated Coffee Talk
This Saturday Thomas and myself will be checking in about the week. I will be checking the emails I sent to myself during the week with links that I feel need to be looked at further. There is one article that stood out that I read that I am going to read during the stream. The article is about how childhood trauma could be mistaken for ADHD.

Just watched a fascinating conversation about the perception of marijuana in the past and its potential benefits. Thomas FreeMe and Sean Dustin discussed how marijuana was marketed as the "devil's weed" in the past, but in reality, it can expand your mind and make you think about things differently. They also talked about the importance of self-talk and navigating your own mind when using marijuana. Have you had similar experiences? Share your thoughts in the comments below. #Marijuana #MindExpansion #SelfTalk
Cannabis prohibition refers to the legal restrictions and criminalization of the cultivation, sale, and consumption of cannabis or marijuana. The prohibition of cannabis started in the early 20th century, and one of the key figures in this movement was Harry J. Anslinger.
Harry J. Anslinger was the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, a position he held from 1930 to 1962. Anslinger was a strong proponent of drug prohibition and played a significant role in the passage of the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, which effectively outlawed the use and distribution of cannabis in the United States.
There is evidence to suggest that racism played a significant role in the demonization of cannabis. Anslinger and other proponents of prohibition frequently used racist and xenophobic rhetoric to promote their agenda. They spread propaganda that linked cannabis use with African American and Mexican immigrant communities, often using derogatory terms to describe these groups. For example, Anslinger claimed that "Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men" and that "There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."
These racist and baseless claims contributed to the stigmatization of cannabis use and helped to build public support for its prohibition. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the harm caused by cannabis prohibition, and many advocates are calling for its legalization and regulation.

Just had a conversation with a friend about the craziest place I've ever been to, and it's got to be North Korea. People argue with me all the time, but hear me out. As soon as you arrive, there's no wifi or cell phone service, so you're completely cut off from the rest of the world. And to top it off, they take your passport when you check into the hotel. That's right, no passport, no way to leave. It's not just about getting kidnapped or killed, it's about being trapped. That's why I say North Korea is the number one most dangerous country in the world. Have you ever been somewhere that made you feel completely helpless?" #NorthKorea #DangerousTravel #TrappedInHotel

Coast to Coast: Elevated Coffee Talk
Thomas FreeMe and myself are going to be talking about hot takes from the week.
#pingpong #tabletennis #newyorkcity #germany #shorts #clips #podcast #wallygreen #sports
The conversation is about Wally Green, who started playing ping pong at a club in New York City. At first, nobody wanted to play with him because he wasn't good enough, but eventually, he met a guy who paid him $20 to be his hitting partner. They became close, and Wally shared with him some of the things he was going through as a 13-year-old.
One day, a gun fell out of Wally's bag in front of the guy, and Wally thought that would be the end of their relationship, but the guy called him two days later and invited him to his home in the woods near Hunter Mountain.
The guy's family welcomed Wally, and he felt like he was experiencing what a real family was like. The guy offered to pay for Wally to go to Germany to learn ping pong, which was the first time Wally had ever left his circle. Wally eventually became good enough to make it to the international US ping pong team.

He took a paddle from one of the kids and tried to hit the ball at the kid's face, but missed and impressed the kid with his shot. The kid then told him about a ping pong club, which piqued his interest. Wally eventually went to the club and saw people playing seriously, including black people, which surprised him as he thought only Asians played ping pong.
