On October 13, a rope rescue team sprang into action to save a dog that had become stuck 40 feet down a narrow crevice in a cave. To their surprise, they encountered an unexpected challenge: a bear. The Waldens Creek Volunteer Fire Department reported that the Sevier County Technical Rope Rescue Team was called upon to assist when a dog named Charlie tumbled into the narrow crevice, finding himself trapped deep within the cave. Charlie endured three days of confinement in these conditions. A rescuer was initially lowered into the cave, but a hasty retreat became necessary when they discovered that Charlie was not alone in the cave; a 200-pound black bear was just a few feet away. The rescuers exercised patience, waiting for the bear to leave the vicinity, before returning to retrieve Charlie and bring him to safety. This evening at approximately 5:15pm Carlisle PD and Carlisle Fire Department responded to the Cranberry Bogs for a report of a dog who was trapped in a culvert and drowning. With assistance from Mr. Duffy of , Zena the black lab was rescued! We hope she has a speedy recovery after being trapped for approximately one hour. A call of a raccoon in distress resulted in a rescue of the 4-legged bandit last night. Officers located the crying critter in a large receptacle & used a 2x4 as a ramp to help it escape from the bin. At the end of 2020 my nephew Albie was diagnosed with a brain tumor, he went through intense treatment for almost a year before sadly passing away at 2 1/2 years old 😢🕊️ I kept this bit of the book a secret from his parents, and I had no idea how they would react! On the afternoon of September 28th, Sgt. Scurr was on his way home when he heard an animal crying in distress on Old Friendship Church Road. He found a small deer with its head stuck in a fence. He retrieved bolt cutters and carefully cut the deer loose from the fence. Even though the deer didn't pause to say thank you, we're sure it's appreciative. Thanks, Sgt. Scurr. Job well done.
