Pulling out into traffic almost goes wrong
This is dashcam footage of a daily commute. This is an intersection that is typical for traffic build up. Cars are always trying to exit the business from the left and are always counting on other drivers to allow them in. In this case, someone most likely waved them in. So watch as the black car slowly inches in and proceeds. Then suddenly, a red car is seen moving down the lane that the black car is about to cross over. The brakes are slammed and the black car stops within what looks like inches from the red car. Accident averted. This was a close call. I am not sure who would have been at fault here. You can almost say the red car had plenty of time to slow down. You can also say that the black car should have better observed oncoming traffic before proceeding.

Reckless redlight runner almost gets T-Boned
There is no judgement call on this one. Don’t even try to argue it. A clear display of reckless driving. Dashcam footage shows a car not even making an attempt to stop at the red light. The light was red long before he even got there. To make it worse, the light was green for traffic approaching from the left. You can see a white work pickup truck proceed through the green and then almost collides with the reckless driver. This is the definition of a careless and reckless driver with no regard for anyone else.

Car muscles his way through blocked intersection
These local auto mechanics decide to take a joy ride in my car. You would think they would be more careful after witnessing this. I wonder whose insurance would pay had they been in an accident. This incident took place while the car was in the shop for repairs. I figured it would be easier to drop the car off the night before and leave it all day. I had set up a ride to work so I wasn't worried about anything. Or perhaps I should have been worried. Why did I decide to review the dashcam video?
Well, when I picked up the vehicle, I noticed that the passenger seat was reclined and pushed all the way back. Kind of odd since no one in the family is more than 5' 8". The seat seemed to be set for a 6 foot 5 inch body builder. Which seemed to be about the mass of one of the body builder mechanics. Guy probably doesn't need a jack to change a tire. I also noticed that the car had a strong odor of ammonia. I do not know why nor had the opportunity to ask. We also don't see in the video that in the back seat was about 20 or so dried up pickles that seemed to be wedged into the seat cushion. Perhaps that was there the whole time or maybe it was the kids dropping their pickles all this time. No more extra pickles.
So as you can see in the video, there seemed to be a good amount of standstill traffic. As the car gets up to the light, it cycles a couple times while the cross traffic barely moved. The driver must have been impatient because we can see him proceed around the hesitant car in front. It appears that he wants to go straight but then suddenly makes a left and goes around the gridlocked cars and sort of muscles his way back into the road.

Ostrich got some swagger
This video captures an ostrich in a once thriving drive-through zoo called Six Flags Wild Safari in New Jersey. Animals of all sorts could be observed here. The ostrich in the video seemed to be strutting her stuff (or his, I have no idea) as she walks down the road in between the cars. This was all observed while moving about in our own cages (which we call cars).
The drive through zoo stopped allowing cars back in 2012 and now have controlled guided tours on an "off road" truck under what is called "Six Flags Great Adventure and Safari." Now in 2018, the zoo boasts 1,200 animals from 6 continents including elephants, rhinos, tigers, giraffes and lions. I would guess that the new Safari Off Road Adventure is a safer method of observation. Animals can be unpredictable and adding unpredictable humans into the mix could be a recipe for disaster. This footage is from a Sony 8mm video camera recorded in August 1994.
Antiquated by today's standards so it is probably not what people are used to seeing these days with HD resolution and such. But it is still good enough to see and remember the trip and the great animals.

Highway disaster nearly avoided
This is dashcam video of reckless highway driving. The traffic was a little congested but that didn't prevent the driver from crossing multiple lanes of traffic in an attempt to beat everyone. A collision nearly occurred as another vehicle had to hit the brakes and nearly crash while going into the breakdown lane. Time saved for the inconsiderate and reckless driver? Zero seconds because he still ended up in standstill traffic shortly there after! Drive safe my friends.

Good Samaritan Nearly Causes Accident
This is dashcam footage of a motorist nearly T-Boning a car crossing traffic. You can see that the car proceeds down the right side of backed-up traffic. It appears that he has the intention of going straight past the intersection since he has no signal on when suddenly a car darts out in front of him. Brake lights go on and a collision is nearly avoided. Cars appear to come within inches of each other from camera’s perspective. It could have been that someone waved the car in to let them through. I have seen this before. Don't trust traffic control direction from a stranger! If something had happened, who’s fault would it have been?

Distracted driver jumps curb
There was some distracted driving going on here. In CT, there are laws against it. Not to apparent in the dashcam video but the driver was looking down as he started to proceed when the light turned green. His vehicle veers off to the right and strikes the curb almost hitting the sign in the process. I am sure everyone has had their own share of close calls and accidents. Everyone makes mistakes driving but there is no excuse for accidents caused by distractions. The texting can wait. Please be safe out there. Watch out for kids and motorcycles too!

2 guys try to build a shed
They said it would take 1 day. Yeah right. This is a sped up video. 4 days of building a shed down to a little over a minute. After a recent downsizing move to a smaller house, it was quickly realized that we had a lot of stuff collected over the years! The small rusted metal shed that was there wouldn't do the job so I got the bright idea of building a new wood shed. My carpentry skills are minimal at best so I recruited a relative and our kids. All of us together might make half of a carpenter.
I had looked around for a few weeks getting an idea of cost. Prefabricated models were real pricey. These were ready build models that could be delivered. Easily 3-5 times the cost of building one myself.
After getting my hand on coupon codes and using the box store credit card, the unassembled price was about $900 including delivery. When the truck showed up I was excited to see the size of the skid on the truck but was quickly let down to learn that my shed kit was behind the large skid.
Other materials that had to be bought that were not included were roof shingles, nails, glue, caulk, lumber and blocks needed for the floor. Building the foundation and floor actually turned into more of a bigger project to build than I had realized, even before starting on the shed. Digging and leveling ended up being a 2 day labor intensive task. Which isn't shown in the video. Each block had to be leveled individually and with each other. Then pressure treated lumber for the base and floor needed to be attached and squared perfectly.
The finished foundation and floor became the work area for building of the shed starting with the walls. Walls were built section by section until all four could be lifted up and attached. That is where the muscle came into play. Then rafters and roofing frame were next and finally all the way to the plywood, shingles and drip guard.
The kids helped out with a lot of the heavy lifting. Especially raising up the walls. Instructions said it was a 2 man job but even 2 men would have trouble. In between, the kids entertained themselves coming and going, rope lassoing, sword fighting etc. I had no idea that this was going on as I was busy hammering. Not until I started editing that I saw this comic relief going on. It is probably not that apparent in this super sped up video but if the request is there, I will make a longer, slower version highlighting some of the antics.
So the shed is complete except for the paint. Perhaps barn red in the spring! Now it is full of all the stuff I keep telling myself I will use one day.
If I can give any advice for any weekend carpenter, it would be to make sure the floor is level and square. The floor ended up being slightly off that made it a little difficult to put together but with a little determination, we made it work.

Crazy highway lane changing caught on dashcam
No question that this is reckless driving! Everyone makes mistakes driving and I am sure everyone has had their own fair share of close calls and accidents. Perhaps even the occasional roll through stop sign or misjudged yellow light. Nobody's perfect. But like I already stated, this is reckless.
Driver was heading down a busy two lane highway that had visibility obscured by the sunrise sun glare. All of a sudden a car speeds by and cuts in. This vehicle with obvious reckless driving skills and with his high speed lane changing is an accident waiting to happen. You can even hear the rev of his engine as he passes and makes those aggressive lane changes as he proceeds heading down the road. Where's the emergency? Is he late for work? I am sure he is scaring the other motorist and at the very least annoying all of them in the process. This is blatant reckless driving showing no concern for anyone on the road. This is driving behavior at its worst. To make it even more dangerous, there is quite a lot of traffic on this highway. Had there been an accident, it could have been really bad. I am sure the crazy driver would have either taking off or would have been just as aggressive confronting whoever he hit.
Having this kind of dashcam footage would avoid any questions of fault and act as a reliable witness in a court of law. This is why it is important to have a dashcam in the vehicle at all times. I predict this will be standard equipment in the future in the same way that airbags have become. They are not expensive and range in price from maybe $25 for a cheap low resolution to hundreds for really good HD video and features. Not too bad right? Drive safe friends. Watch out for kids and motorcycles!

Cop tailgates but it is not what you think.
Bad cops on the news. It sells. It gets ratings. People always want to hear the juicy stories about what cop did what and to whom. That seems to be the only stories we hear. In this day and age of bad press for the police, it is always great to see something positive when it comes to our men and women of law enforcement.
Know however that in any population there are always going to bad apples. Pick any industry, profession, anything. Even doctors, lawyers, machinist, clergy, teachers and politicians. There is no group immune from bad behavior and no one is an angel. You will always find something wrong. But today was a good day. As this driver was headed down a busy highway, traffic seems to be building up ahead. Is it construction? Perhaps an accident caused by some inattentive motorist? Maybe a broken down car that is being assisted by AAA. Everyone knows that it only take one to slow down or stop traffic. And when this happens, then there is the occasional rubbernecker to further exasperate the issue too. The motorist here makes his way further down the highway, changing lanes as needed. So as the driver gets closer he can see police lights. What could it be? Sometimes police will escort construction vehicles or wide load vehicles so perhaps that was it. Sometimes cars are purposely slowed down for some other needed purpose.
As the driver approaches, it is seen that there are two state police cars. One of the cars appears to be tailgating. Better than that he is actually right up on the bumper. Touching. He is not only touching but is pushing! Incredible. Usually if there is a vehicle in distress, roadside assistance would be called. I am sure the officer has a list of tow trucks on standby for incidents such as this. He seems to want to take care of it himself. To offer immediate assistance like this is awesome. I wonder however what the urgency was that would cause this. Someone in labor? The world may never know.

Motorist nearly T-bones truck
This is a case of a motorist nearly T-Boning an inattentive driver. As car approaches the intersection, there is a van that slows down to make a right hand turn. The dashcam driver is alert and prepares for what could happen. He has seen this many times. Surely other drivers experience this daily. A truck seems to come out of nowhere and tries to make a left hand turn into the intersection. The dashcam owner stated that as the truck pulled out, he was clearly looking the opposite way and to the right! To prevent T-boning this truck, the driver had to swerve into the opposite lane thus avoiding a collision. Everyone makes mistakes driving and I am sure everyone has had their own fair share of close calls and accidents. Perhaps even the occasional roll through stop sign or misjudged yellow light? Nobody's perfect. However, this vehicle should have paid more attention before blindly pulling out into traffic. Especially since he is higher off the ground you would think he has better visibility of what is behind the van. Always assume that when there is a turning vehicle, that there will be others right behind! Had there been an accident, it could have been someone's word against the other but having a dashcam would avoid any questions of fault. This is why it is important to have a dashcam in the vehicle at all times. They are not expensive and range in price from maybe $25 for a cheap low resolution to hundreds for really good HD video and features. Not too bad right? Drive safe friends.

Bad driver caught on video
Another great red light runner. Like I have said before, everyone makes mistakes driving and I am sure everyone has had their own fair share of close calls and accidents. Perhaps even the occasional roll through stop sign or misjudged yellow light? Nobody's perfect. However, this vehicle makes a blatant attempt at running the red light. As this dashcam owner was behind and approaching the intersection, it is clearly seen that the car just blows right through it with no hesitation disobeying the traffic control device. This unsafe rdriver shows no concern for anyone on the road. To make it worse, this is a very busy intersection. This one was recorded with a Vantue R2 dashcam. Not too bad right? Drive safe friends.

Red light runner nearly gets T-Boned
This is dashcam video footage of a van waiting for the light to turn green. When it does, he proceeds to go only to almost collide with a red light runner. This could have been real bad. Was it distracted driving for the red light runner? That's why it is always good to have a witness in these situations. In this case, the dashcam would have been helpful if there was a collision. The other driver could have said the van ran the red. Your word against his. Drive safe friends.

Zebras wrestle and play joyfully, unbothered by watchers
This video captures playful zebras in a once thriving drive-through zoo called Six Flags Wild Safari in New Jersey. Animals of all sorts could be observed here. These playful zebras seemed to be having the time of their lives frolicking in the meadow while seemingly unaware of observers in their own cages (which we call cars). Even the other animals were keen to watching these lovable animals. But notice how they get close to the herd of other zebras and suddenly get a kick! At one point the giraffe seems to meander over to see what is going on. The zebras seemed to be wrestling and goofing off in general. I remember this being a real treat to see animals up close. Zebras can live up to 25 years in the wild and can run up to 40mph. They are social animals but don't be fooled by their elegance or how peaceful they seem. They can be aggressive! The stallions fight for females with piercing bites and powerful kicks. This fierceness and social bond helps protect them from predators.
They stopped allowing cars back in 2012 and now have controlled guided tours on an off road truck under what is called Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari. Now in 2018, the zoo boasts 1,200 animals from 6 continents including elephants, rhinos, tigers, giraffes and lions. This footage is from a Sony 8mm video camera recorded in August 1994. Antiquated by today's standards so it is probably not what people are used to seeing these days with HD resolution and such.
