He Went to Paris (A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett)
Upon hearing of Mr.Buffett's passing, I just wanted to enjoy his lyrical genius with my favorite song. Definitely one of those we all know by heart. Enjoy the sail today with your Grandfather, Mr. Buffett...

Country Roads - (2023 Songs I Should Have Known - But Didn't Series) #2
If you play acoustic guitar in public long enough, you learn that for at least my general age group, John Denver is one of the most requested singers out there. But I always have problems with his vocal range, so I just never learned any of his songs.
When I was in Amsterdam last summer, I brought my guitar so that I could sit down by the river to busk. Amsterdam is, of course, known for its marijuana and mushroom tourism, and I figured that my style of music and playlist would fit in perfectly to please the passerby...I won't talk about myself 😎
But anyway, after I got everything set up and began to play, this beautiful young white blonde Dutch lady came up. Obviously she was tripping on mushrooms, and she sat down and leaned her head back on my shoulder and just sat there and listened to me played songs for a couple of hours. She'd sing along with me as the mood hit her. She was young enough to be my daughter, so please don't think I was doing anything. I was very much a gentleman, which is probably why she sat there the whole time. She only requested one song of me...Country Roads.
When I told her I didn't know it, she got her phone out looked up the chords and lyrics. I learned the chords quickly and then we sang the song together.
After I finished the song, she got up gave me a kiss on my forehead and then just left. That was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. It was so much fun to know that I was playing something that somebody really enjoyed; a lot of people walked by and enjoyed it, of course...but none of them stopped to put their head on my shoulder! 🤣
Songs I Should Have Known But Didn't Series. Going to think about songs that have been requested, recommended or rejected and see if they fit me at this point in my life.

What's So Funny About Peace Love & Understanding? (2023 Songs I Should Have Known But Didn't Series)
#3
Old Declan McManus hit the nail on the head with this one so many years ago...as a man of proud Irish descent I wish he wouldn't have changed his stage name to Elvis Costello.

I'll Never Fall in Love Again (2023 Songs I Should Have Known - But Didn't Series)
BTW, my shirt says, "That's what I do; I pet dogs, I play guitar and I know things"!
Learning this gem today - it's virtually my life's theme song, so I'm surprised I never tried it before! 🤣
Took Churro for his walk, got back and made my coffee then picked up the guitar and figured out the melody - then looked up the basic accompaniment and it came together pretty well. The Eb is a confounding part to sing, but otherwise pretty straightforward!
Burt Bacharach was a genius songwriter, and Elvis did this perfectly - Costello that is.

So long...and thanks for the fish! 2022 One Take Series closing credits
Thanks to everyone who supported my project, especially Megan, Aon and Churro! I hope someday long after I'm gone, my sons can put on a video and see the old man who loved them so much...in good health and doing something that I loved!

My Way (Frank Sinatra Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #205
There's only one version and singer for this song - Mr. Frank Sinatra, of course. But I found this fitting as my last song to play...

Taxi (Harry Chapin Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #205
This is one of my most challenging songs, three separate themes in the song, and the subject matter is so human. Love it!

Uncle Hiram's Homemade Beer (Dick Feller Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #204
I've loved this song since the first time I heard it on a Goodwill LP I got in the 80's...the lyrics and syncopation are genius.

She Left Me for a Rodeo Clown (Bowen and Rogers Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
This song is genius, right up there some of Rodney Crrington's most baudy tunes. I can't keep from laughing during the second verse! 😆

Woman (John Lennon Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
I never got the Yoko Ono thing, but who cares - John did, and that's all that really matters.
John was really on a comeback with 'Double Fantasy', I wonder what could have happened if he was taken so early...😢

Somewhere Over the 🌈 (Wizard of Oz Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
Which version is your favorite - Judy Garlands original, Louis Armstrong's sonorous take, or Brother Iz' beautiful recording? I prefer Iz' version, he just hit it perfectly.

Too Much 2 Dream Last Night (Strawberry Alarm Clock Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
Fun fact - the guitarist for The Alarm Clock was also one of the lead guitarists in Lynyrd Skynyrd's recorded version of "Freebird", Mr. Ed King. He had left Skynyrd before the end - and had been replaced by Steve Gaines, who was killed in the crash.

Speed of the Sound of Loneliness (John Prine Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
Mr. Prine wrote it, but I really enjoy Amos Lee's version. True to the original, but with a bit of melancholy. I live melancholy!

Whiter Shade of Pale (Procol Harum Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #
Youngins these days don't know about lyrics that really mean something - oh, wait...
If you want to hear a killer acoustic version, look up Dave Matthews' playing it on Howard Stern. That's my inspiration!

Wharf Rat (Grateful Dead Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #196
One of Robert Hunter's and Jerry Garcia's best songwriting collaborations, the lyrics are very evocative and the tune driving.

The River (Garth Brooks Acoustic Cover) - 2022 One Take Series #192
I think Garth was an amazing songwriter in the early 80's, and pretty much singlehandedly brought country to a new generation.
