Bolsonaro Calls on Supporters to Remove Brazil Roadblocks
Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro called on his protesting supporters to dismantle hundreds of roadblocks, saying these harm the economy and aren’t a legitimate form of demonstrating.
In a video posted on Twitter on Wednesday, Bolsonaro said that holding protests elsewhere “is very welcome, it’s part of our democracy”.
Supporters of the president who refuse to accept his defeat in Sunday’s election have been taking to the streets in the past few days and blocking major highways across the country. Associations for agribusiness, transportation and supermarkets have disapproved of the blockages, warning they were disrupting the supply of food and medicine.
The number of road blocks has fallen to 86 from nearly 170 a day ago, the federal highway police posted on Twitter early Thursday. Police has been trying to remove illegal blockages since the Supreme Court ordered all highways to be cleared, imposing heavy fines on protesters who refuse to do so.
As road protests decreased, some supporters of the outgoing president congregated outside army bases, criticizing the electoral process and holding signs calling on the military to intervene to overturn the official results.

Brazil election: Lula defeats Bolsonaro in presidential comeback
Leftist Luis Inacio Lula da Silva defeated President Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday in an election runoff that marked a stunning comeback for Lula and the end of Brazil’s most right-wing government in decades.
Lula won 50.9 per cent of votes compared with 49.1 per cent for Bolsonaro, the Supreme Electoral Court said, declaring former president Lula the winner. The 77-year-old Lula’s inauguration is scheduled for Jan. 1.
The vote was a rebuke for the fiery far-right populism of Bolsonaro, who emerged from the back benches of Congress to forge a novel conservative coalition but lost support as Brazil ran up one of the worst death tolls of the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Bolsonaro supporters make Nazi salute in election loss rallies
The German ambassador to Brazil condemned what he called the "shocking" use of "Nazi symbols" at protests in favour of defeated hard-Right president Jair Bolsonaro.
In videos that surfaced earlier this week, demonstrators in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina can be seen making what appears to be a Nazi salute, raising their outstretched right arms during the Brazilian national anthem.
Supporters of Mr Bolsonaro have held rallies every day since the president lost Sunday's election to leftist figurehead Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
They call for a military coup to annul the election result and keep Mr Bolsonaro—who has yet to publicly concede defeat—in power.
"The use of Nazi and fascist symbols by clearly far-Right 'protesters' is profoundly shocking. Advocating Nazism is a crime," tweeted Heiko Thoms, Germany's ambassador to Brazil.
"This is not a matter of freedom of expression," he added. "This gesture disrespects the memory of the victims of Nazism and the horrors it caused."
