Humming birds battle in Owens Valley
Anna's hummingbirds are fairly territorial, and when food is on the line, a pecking order is well established. Owens Valley is in eastern California on the eastern Sierra Nevadas.
Vinegaroons, relative of Scorpions that shoots vinegar, on my arm
Spider biologist gives me a hands on experience with one of her vinagrons. They are members of the Arachnid Class, and shoot acetic acid, or vinegar, out of their tail in order to protect themselves. They live in caves and in deserts all around the world. This one is Mastigoproctus giganteus, the giant whip scorpion, from North America.

Inside the Squirrel Monkey Cage at the Playboy Mansion
A friend of mine was a zookeeper at the Playboy Mansion, and she gave us an inside tour of the squirrel monkey enclosure. There's about 60 or so monkies that Hugh Hefner rescued and as given a home to. They live in a giant enclosure with around the clock care and entertainment. We went in and fed them blue berries, which they seemed to enjoy a lot!

Intense Bison Stand Off Occurs In Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park
This is an interesting day in the world of nature. What you see here is a dominant male trying to be usurped by a lesser male for breeding rights to his herd, which had already run off at this point. They had battled for a bit, coming in contact with each other a few times. Eventually they broke it off and ran, most likely going to rest before trying to start another battle with each other. Bisons have incredibly thick skulls and reinforced necks that can take huge amount of force without causing much injury. They can come at each other like a high speed train, crazy!
Bisons are the largest animal in North America. Males can weigh up to 2000 pounds and females can weigh up to 1000 pounds, that's a lot! When calves are born at birth, they weigh around 30 to 70 pounds at birth. Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the United States that they have continuously lived since prehistoric times. If a bisons tail hangs down, it is usually calm, if it is standing straight up, chances are it might be ready to charge!
Check out these bisons in a stand off in Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park!
