Kharkiv could become a fatal city for Russian troops - Commander-in-Chief of Ukrainian Armed Forces
Kharkiv could become a fatal city for Russian troops if they try to occupy it again. Currently, large-scale comprehensive measures are being taken to strengthen the defense there, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Commenting on the risks of a repeat Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, Syrskyi notes that all measures are being taken to adequately respond to such a possibility.
"We are carrying out a large complex of works on the fortification of territories and positions, installing a complex system of fences, and planning the use of our troops in the event of such actions," the Commander-in-Chief says.
He reminds that the Ukrainian Defense Forces already have experience in combat operations in the Kharkiv region. Back then, they managed to calculate Russia's actions and liberate a significant part of the region.
"It was then that a large-scale collapse of the Russian front took place. If the Russians move there again, Kharkiv will become a fatal city for them," emphasizes Syrskyi.
At the same time, he notes that the next possible defense actions could vary greatly due to the uniqueness of each situation on the battlefield.
Russians are operating in the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region. After the de-occupation, Russian troops have not given up trying to regain control of it. This is due to the strategically important logistical interchange.
In addition, the Russian occupiers continue to shell Kharkiv and the region incessantly, destroying civilian and energy infrastructure.
Over the past day, in the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled one Russian attack near the village of Ivanivka, Kharkiv region.
In addition, the settlements of Novoiehorivka, Ivanivka, and Kyslivka in Kharkiv region were subjected to Russian air strikes.
Recently, the Russian media have been spreading information about preparations for covert mobilization to surround Kharkiv. At the same time, the mayor of the city, Ihor Terekhov, calls it another hostile information and psychologic operation.

Russian attack on NATO troops in Ukraine wouldn’t trigger article 5 - Germany
Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which enshrines the bloc's collective military response policy, would not be triggered should any member's troops deployed to Ukraine be attacked by Russia, a report by an a German parliament expert group seen by wire agency dpa has claimed.
Reflecting the principle of collective defense of the 31 NATO members, Article 5 states that an armed attack against one or more of the members shall be considered an attack against all.
“If troops of a NATO member state engage in collective self-defense in favor of Ukraine in an existing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and are attacked by the other party to the conflict in the course of the battle in the conflict area, this does not constitute a case of Article 5 NATO Treaty,” the experts wrote.
According to the unpublished document, Article 5 of the NATO Treaty can only be triggered if member countries of the US-led military bloc are attacked on or over their own territory.
“A military engagement of French ground troops in favor of Ukraine would be based on the collective right of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and would therefore be permissible under international law,” the document stated.
Researchers noted that the deployment of ground troops from one NATO country to Ukraine would not automatically make all other members parties to the conflict. Only the state in question would become a party, they concluded.
“If the NATO member state acts unilaterally – i.e. not within the framework of a previously decided NATO operation and outside NATO military command structures – neither NATO as a whole nor the other NATO partner states become parties to the conflict,” the report read.
At the same time, the document indicates that sending NATO troops to Ukraine is acceptable under international law.

"Blue Majesty: Exploring the World of Earth's Largest Creature". unique facts about Blue whale.
The blue whale, scientifically known as Balaenoptera musculus, is the largest animal ever known to have existed on Earth. It has a long, streamlined body that is typically blue-gray in color, with lighter spots or mottling on the skin. Blue whales have a distinctive, broad, and flat head, which comprises nearly a quarter of their body length. They have a massive heart, the size of a small car, and feed primarily on tiny shrimp-like animals called krill by filtering them through baleen plates in their mouths. Blue whales are known for their haunting vocalizations, which can be heard over long distances and are thought to be used for communication and possibly mating. Despite their enormous size, blue whales are graceful swimmers, capable of reaching speeds up to 30 miles per hour in short bursts. They are found in oceans around the world, typically in colder waters where krill populations are abundant. Unfortunately, blue whales are listed as endangered due to past commercial whaling and ongoing threats such as ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear.
"🐋 Meet the majestic blue whale, the largest creature on Earth! 🌊 Known for its immense size and graceful movements, the blue whale captivates hearts worldwide. NATO general warns of Russian trap for Ukraine
Moscow has forced Kiev to choose between losing men or territory, according to retired French General Jerome Pellistrandi, the editor-in-chief of the Revue Defense Nationale.
In an interview for the French outlet La Depeche , Pellistrandi pointed out that Russian forces have made advances ever since the Ukrainians’ chaotic retreat from Avdeevka in mid-February, and are now approaching Chasov Yar and Kharkov.
“Moscow has in fact presented a tactical dilemma to the Ukrainian command, forcing it to choose between protecting territory at the risk of taking significant losses, or retreating and thus giving up ground,” Pellistrandi said.
In addition to advances west of Avdiivka, Russian troops recently took the town of Ivanivske, west of Bakhmut, the general noted.
“This reflects this desire to exhaust the enemy,” he said. “Moscow knows very well that Kiev lacks artillery shells and, by relentlessly shelling these territories, President Vladimir Putin is ultimately preventing the Ukrainians from rebuilding their defenses. This is a way of forcing them to give up ground and exhaust their stock of weapons.”
According to Pellistrandi, Russian troops are aiming for both Chasov Yar and Kramatorsk, a key crossroads for Ukrainian logistics in Donbass. Its loss would be “dramatic” for Kiev and pose “serious strategic and logistical difficulties,” he said.
Kharkov also came under heavy bombardment last week, Pellistrandi said, adding that Ukraine is on the defensive along the entire front and urgently needs more ammunition.
Revue Defense Nationale is considered France’s preeminent military publication. Founded in 1939, it is traditionally led by a general officer. Pellistrandi has been editor-in-chief since 2014. In 2022, he also joined the French outlet BFMTV as a military expert.

Transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine is no longer as risky - US top general
The transfer of long-range ATACMS missiles from the United States to Ukraine is no longer as risky as it was before, states the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Charles Brown.
In a conversation with journalists, Brown stated that the risk of escalation during the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine is not as high as it might have initially seemed. In 2022, Russia publicly stated that providing such weapons to Ukraine would supposedly cross a "red line."
At that time, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, stated that people in academic circles, analytical centers, or other forms of analysis refer to this as "declaratory policy."
This refers to statements made by high-ranking officials discussing what they will or will not do if certain actions occur.
"Top military officials, speaking on background, have pointed to Russian military doctrine specifically as it relates so-called existential risk, saying that giving Ukraine such weapons could compel a nuclear response from Russia, or spur it to attack a NATO partner," the source writes.
A US General stated that Russia's restrained response to a series of recent attacks by Ukrainian drones deep into Russian territory allowed the Pentagon to adjust its risk analysis for sending ATACMS.
"Those are the things that we pay attention to. You know, what is the likelihood of escalation based on different capabilities and different actions," he said.
Last year Ukrainian soldiers struck Russian airfields in Luhansk and Berdyansk. Information emerged in the media that the Armed Forces of Ukraine used American long-range ATACMS missiles for the strike, which were provided in small quantities. Later, the US confirmed this information, specifying that the missiles provided to our soldiers had a range of up to 165 kilometers.
As early as October 2023, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that the supply of ATACMS to Ukraine would be ongoing.
Recently, the American agency NBC News reported that the White House is working to provide Ukraine with new powerful long-range ballistic missiles.Tags: #Ukriane, #Russia, #Putin, #Putler, #Russian invasion of Ukraine, #Zelenski, #Kiev, #Kyiv, #Kadirov army, #Kadirov, #Kherson, #Bucha, #Kharkiv, #Ukrainian pilots, #vagners, #Russian tanks, #NATO, #drones, #Moscow, #Kreml, #war victims #Ukraina, News, The Washington Post, waPo Video, Washington Post Video, Washington Post YouTube, a:politics, aid, biden, putin, s:Politics, support, t:Other, Ukraine, war, fact check, news coverage, Donald Trump, news, wp video, forbes, nytimes, newspaper, media, journalism, Ilham Aliyev, Baku, Azerbaijan, Israel, Gaza, Palestine, Tel-Aviv, Garabag, Karabakh, football, ronaldo, messi, brian tyler cohen

Zelenskyy reveals how US reacted to Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries
Zelenskyy reveals how US reacted to Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineriesPresident Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the US does not approve of Ukraine’s drone strikes on oil refineries in Russia, but since Ukraine uses its own drones, no one can forbid it to strike Russian oil refineries.
He said this in an interview with Washington Post columnist David Ignatius
Zelenskyy was asked about the US reaction to Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries.
"The reaction of the US was not positive on this…
We used our drones. Nobody can say to us you can’t…
If there is no air defence to protect our energy system, and Russians attack it, my question is: Why can’t we answer them? Their society has to learn to live without petrol, without diesel, without electricity. … It’s fair", Zelenskyy said.
The article noted that Washington cannot limit Ukraine’s deployment of its own weapons or deter similar attacks on energy facilities in Russia.
The Washington Post noted that Zelenskyy feels he has no choice but to launch an attack on the Russian energy system in response, in the hope of creating a system of deterrence.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine could stop Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system by forcing Russia to pay the same price, and "when Russia stops these steps, we will stop".
He also stated that Ukraine lacks air defence systems: "That’s true. I don’t want Russia to know what number of air-defence missiles we have, but basically, you’re right. Without the support of Congress, we will have a big deficit of missiles. This is the problem. We are increasing our own air-defence systems, but it is not enough."
Commenting on the situation in the combat zone, Zelenskyy talked about the shortage of ammunition, saying that "if you need 8,000 rounds a day to defend the front line," Ukraine only has 2,000 rounds.
So the only solution is to make the front line shorter: "If it breaks, the Russians could go to the big cities."
He added that Ukraine "is trying to find some way not to retreat". For instance, after the Russians captured Avdiivka in Ukraine’s east in February, Ukraine managed to "stabilise the situation because of smart steps by our military".
Zelenskyy believes that if the front line remains stable, Ukraine will be able to arm and train new brigades in the rear in order to conduct a new counteroffensive later, since if Ukraine does not go on the offensive, then Russia will.
"If you are not taking steps forward to prepare another counteroffensive, Russia will take them. That’s what we learned in this war: If you don’t do it, Russia will do it", Zelenskyy said.

Europe in pre-war era due to Russia’s threat - Poland’s Prime Minister warns
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Europe is in a “pre-war era” but still has a “long way to go” before its ready to confront the threat posed by Russia.
“War is no longer a concept from the past. It is real, and it started over two years ago. The most worrying thing at the moment is that literally any scenario is possible. We haven’t seen a situation like this since 1945,” Tusk said in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt published Friday.
“I know it sounds devastating, especially for the younger generation, but we have to get used to the fact that a new era has begun: the pre-war era. I’m not exaggerating; it’s becoming clearer every day.”
Last weekend, Poland said a Russian cruise missile aimed at Ukraine had entered its airspace – a repeat occurrence during more than two years of war – and demanded an explanation from Moscow.
Despite Europe’s efforts to bolster its defense, Tusk said the continent still “has a long way to go.” He said it must be “independent and self-sufficient in defense” while maintaining a strong alliance in the US.
Polish President Andrzej Duda also stated that Russia could soon restore its military potential and attack NATO countries as early as 2026.
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock also says that Vladimir Putin is trying to drag NATO into a war, but Germany will not allow him.
"Putin's goal was and is to destroy the existence of Ukraine as an independent, free country and drag NATO into a war," Baerbock said, noting that the German government will not allow this to happen.
The German Foreign Minister adds that the Kremlin leader is not open to arguments, calls for humanity, and does not want to engage in negotiations.

Russia warns Armenia about engaging with US and European Union
Armenia is kidding itself if it thinks that rapprochement with the European Union will do any good, as the collective West is just going to put it under its thumb like everyone else, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"Anything that will be beneficial for the people of Armenia can only be welcomed," she said. "The key thing is that under the sheepskin of EU chants, a bloodthirsty wolf of a saber-toothed tiger might be hiding, as always. That is the problem. This is how, under this guise, they penetrate into internal life and the economic projects of the nations that have just taken off in their development, being in democratic transit as developing countries - and this is a big danger."
Nobody has any intention of talking Armenia out of doing what it thinks is best for its people, the Russian diplomat continued.
"The main thing is that this should be exactly prosperity and wellbeing, but not another attempt to subjugate the country for eternity with their incessant loans, to make it serve the world capital, to ruin the existing centuries-old values and traditions, which make up national culture, from within, and to throw the country backwards under the slogans ‘For all the best!’ and ‘Forward to development with seven-mile-long steps!’," Zakharova said.
"That is the only question. After all, now the West is terrifying not because it hands out empty promises and thus deceives expectations, but because it gets involved in fraud, in performances and, under the guise of promises of prosperity, actually starts to ‘suck blood’ and then literally exterminates everything that used to be really prosperous and fruitful," she said.
The meeting scheduled for April 5 in the Armenia-US-EU format is aimed at weakening the existing mechanisms of security and economic cooperation in the South Caucasus Maria Zakharova said.
According to her, such events cause concern in Moscow because they are exclusively anti-Russian.
“Such meetings cause concern among most countries in the region, because they are aimed not at achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but at further introducing the West with its extremely destructive approaches into the South Caucasus, creating new dividing lines there, forcing the countries of the region to follow the anti-Russian agenda, destruction of their centuries-old ties with Moscow, weakening the existing mechanisms of regional security and economic cooperation,” notes Zakharova.

Polish general: Russian may have fired missile into Polish airspace to test NATO response
Poland will demand explanations from Moscow after a Russian missile violated the Polish airspace during the mass attack against Ukraine on the morning of March 24, the Polish Foreign Ministry said.
Poland, a NATO member, scrambled fighter jets to protect its airspace as Russian forces launched another large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine.
The Russian cruise missile entered Poland's airspace for 39 seconds, Jacek Siewiera, chief of Poland’s National Security Bureau, said on X. He also said the NATO allies had been briefed about yet another violation of the NATO border by a Russian cruise missile.
The Polish Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Pawel Wronski called on Russia to stop its “terrorist air attacks on the people and territory of Ukraine, to end the war and address the country's internal problems.”
According to a Polish general Stanislaw Koziej. Russia may have deliberately fired a missile into NATO member Poland's airspace in a weekend test of the country and alliance's defenses, said.
"Such situations may be deliberately provoked by the enemy in order to test the Polish air defense system," Stanislaw Koziej said in an interview with Polish Press Agency.
"You never know what a rocket like that can do," Koziej said. "All the more so because they are often dual-purpose missiles that can carry a nuclear charge," the former head of Poland's National Security Bureau added.
"Moreover, the Russians may want to use the border airspace, while also violating the Polish border, to attack Ukrainian objects with cruise missiles from the west, where air defense is probably weaker," he said in the interview.
"The situation now requires very decisive actions. In my opinion, the only remedy to protect Polish airspace and Polish territory against this type of event is the establishment by NATO of an anti-missile defense zone extended in front of the Polish border, over the territory of Ukraine," he added.

Russian Orthodox Church calls invasion of Ukraine "holy war"
The World Russian People's Council led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has adopted an "order" that refers to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a "holy war" and states that "the entire territory of present-day Ukraine should be included in the area of Russia's exclusive influence". The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has historically been linked to the Moscow Patriarchate, has dissociated itself from such statements.
Radio Liberty journalists reported that the Patriarchate’s document is not formally related to the Russian Orthodox Church, but many Russian church hierarchs and public figures associated with the church are participating in the council.
The document was approved during a conciliar congress held on 27 March in Moscow and chaired by Patriarch Kirill.
In it, the war in Ukraine is described as "a new stage in the national liberation struggle of the Russian people against the criminal Kyiv regime and the collective West behind it, which is being waged in the lands of Southwestern Russia", and from a "spiritual and moral point of view", it is "a Holy War in which Russia and its people, defending the single spiritual space of Holy Russia, fulfil the mission of the Restrainer, who protects the world against the onslaught of globalism and the victory of the West, which has fallen into Satanism".
The document also explains the concept of the Russian, describing its boundaries as wider than the state borders of "both the current Russian Federation and the great historical Russia".
The document also refers to the "triunity of the Russian people" and claims that Belarusians and Ukrainians "should be recognised only as sub-ethnic groups of the Russians".
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church reacted to the Russian statement by distancing itself from the ideology of the Russian world.
"The Ukrainian Orthodox Church does not support and dissociates itself from the ideology of the Russian world. Moreover, our Church’s attitude to this idea has long been publicly expressed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufrii of Kyiv and All Ukraine: ‘We are not building any Russian world, we are building God's world’", Ukrainian Orthodox Church said.

Russian Black Sea Fleet is a sitting duck for Ukraine
Ukraine said its weekend strikes on Russia's Black Sea Fleet were more successful than it previously disclosed, with damage to two additional vessels. Ukraine's navy said that it struck two of Russia's large landing ships, the Yamal and the Azov, in occupied Crimea in an attack on last Saturday.
But in an update on Tuesday, it said it also damaged two other ships, "the spy ship Ivan Khurs and the Konstantin Olshansky large landing ship."
A Russian flotilla just announced by Moscow will be vulnerable to Ukrainian drones which have wreaked havoc on Russia's Black Sea Fleet, British defense officials have said.
The UK said last month that 25% of Russia's vessels in the Black Sea had been sunk, damaged, or destroyed. This is despite Ukraine not having a functional navy of its own.
The UK's defense minister said, after Ukraine's first updates about the attack, that the Black Sea Fleet was "functionally inactive."
In its update, the U.K. Ministry of Defense said that Russia wants to prevent Ukrainian forces from undertaking cross-river operations like the one which has established the bridgehead at Krynky, where both sides have lost large numbers of troops and equipment. The flotilla is likely to "decouple river patrolling functions from the Black Sea Fleet" the British defense officials said.
However, Russia's new flotilla could face the same fate as the vessels of Russia's prestigious fleet which has been forced further east to Novorossiysk due to Ukrainian drone strikes which have targeted vessels and infrastructure in and around Sevastopol.
"The Dnipro Flotilla will likely be vulnerable to Ukrainian uncrewed surface vehicles which have been effective in destroying Russian vessels operating in the Black Sea," said the update, which tends to emphasize Ukrainian gains and Russian losses.

Russia’s F-16 threats could start a war with NATO, Swedish military official warns
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements that F-16 fighter jets are legitimate targets for Moscow – even on third-country airfields – is an escalation of Russian rhetoric that could potentially lead to a war, according to Swedish Lieutenant Colonel Joakim Paasikivi.
A group of 14 countries has pledged to deliver the F-16s and help Ukraine with training. Dmytro Kuleba, Ukrainian foreign minister, said that the planes should be arriving in the coming months.
While visiting the 344th Army Aviation Centre for Combat Employment and Retraining of Army Aviation Pilots, Putin was asked about F-16s and if Russia would be "allowed to hit these targets at NATO airfields."
"First, if they supply F-16s, this will not change the situation on the battlefield. We will destroy their aircraft just like we are now destroying their tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment, including multiple launch rocket systems," he said.
Putin continued, "Of course, we would see them as legitimate targets if they operate from the airfields of third countries, no matter where they are located. F-16 aircraft can also carry nuclear weapons, and we will also have to heed this while organizing our combat operations."
“If Putin wants a war with NATO, that’s how you start it. Then it will be a third world war”, Paasikivi told Swedish press agency TT. According to him, the fact that the F-16 can be equipped with nuclear weapons fits in well with the Russian narrative, which revolves around the image of the West as the great aggressor.
“For Putin, it is important to constantly present the West as the major threat to the domestic audience. The West’s so-called nuclear threat is at the centre of the entire Russian narrative”, Paasikivi said. Elbridge Colby, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy and force development under ex-President Donald Trump's administration, took to X, , saying, "We shouldn't take Putin at his word. Far from it. I believe Russia is a serious threat to Eastern NATO."

Russian Wagner mercenaries helping Mali Army kill civilians
The Russian mercenary group known as Wagner is helping government forces in central and northern Mali carry out raids and drone strikes that have killed scores of civilians, including many children, rights groups said in reports published this week that span the period from December to March.
Mali, along with its neighbors Burkina Faso and Niger, has for over a decade battled an insurgency fought by Islamic extremist groups, including some allied with al-Qaida and the Islamic State group. According to Voice of America, following military coups in all three nations in recent years, the ruling juntas have expelled French forces and turned to Russia's mercenary units for security assistance instead.
Violence has escalated in Mali since Russian mercenaries arrived there following a coup in 2021. Its ruling junta has ramped up operations, carrying out deadly drone strikes that have hit gatherings of civilians, and raids accompanied by Russian mercenaries that have killed civilians.
Residents of the Sahel region that includes Mali say Russia's presence does not appear to have changed since Wagner's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, died in a suspicious plane crash last year.
"Mali's Russia-backed transitional military government is not only committing horrific abuses, but it is working to eliminate scrutiny into its human rights situation," Ilaria Allegrozzi, senior Sahel researcher at Human Rights Watch, said.
In an example of a raid carried out by Russian-backed government forces in January, Human Rights Watch said the army entered a village near a military base in central Mali and arrested 25 people, including four children. Their bodies were found later that day blindfolded and with bullet wounds to the heads, the report said.
Amnesty International said in a separate report earlier this week that two drone strikes in northern Mali killed at least 13 civilians, including seven children aged 2 to 17. A pregnant woman who was injured in the bombing miscarried days after the attack, it said.

Italy reveals connection between terrorist attack in Crocus, Putin's plans for World War
Head of the Russian Federation Putin does not need a world war, so all his talks that the Russian Federation will shoot down F-16s provided to Ukraine even at NATO airbases in Europe are "propaganda".
This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani.
"This is akin to propaganda: Russia made a bad impression with the attack on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow Region. I thought it was strange that the special services did not stop it," Tajani said.
He also said Putin was trying to divert attention. "I don't think Putin wants a world war also because he won't win it," he added.
But Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the US and the EU have been obsessive in insisting on Ukraine’s innocence in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack, to the point that such behavior is suspicious. “The West is actively trying to convince everyone that this is the work of ISIS and there is no longer any need to suspect anyone, especially Ukraine,” Lavrov told Izvestiya. “They keep insisting that Kiev is not to blame, to the point where it’s becoming obsessive.”
Lavrov pointed out that four suspected gunmen were attempting to flee to Ukraine when they were caught by Russian security forces.
“We have repeatedly said that we do not make any final conclusions until the investigation is completed. The investigation is still working on the facts, new circumstances are being revealed, but we simply do not have the right to exclude obvious possibilities,” the foreign minister stated.
Meanwhile, the West is “suspiciously active” in trying to persuade everyone that Ukraine had nothing to do with the attack, Lavrov said.

Russian aircrafts mistakenly dropped two more bombs in Belgorog, more than 140 residents evacuated
Russian planes dropped two aerial bombs on the Belgorod region, ASTRA reports, citing sources.
In the area of the village of Bezymeno on the morning of March 28, a high-explosive FAB-250 aerial bomb was discovered. More than 140 village residents were evacuated for a day, and by evening the bomb was removed and destroyed. The second FAB-500 bomb was found in the village of Nechaevka. The village residents were not evacuated.
Russian warplanes regularly drop munitions en route to Ukraine. Most often, incidents occurred in the Belgorod region. On February 22, a FAB-250 fell in the village of Soloti, the ammunition did not detonate, and was later destroyed at the test site. On January 27, FAB-250 was found in the village of Postnikov, Korochansky district.
On January 2, a Russian rocket fell on the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region and exploded. Four people were injured, more than 100 houses, a school, a community center, an administration building, as well as five cars and a tractor were damaged. The region's governor, Alexander Gusev, said that the authorities would have to rebuild nine houses.
Another “abnormal discharge of aircraft ammunition” occurred on April 20, 2023 during the flight of a Su-34 bomber over Belgorod. The bomb fell in the city center - at the intersection of Vatutina and Gubkin streets, resulting in a crater with a radius of 20 meters. The explosion broke glass in neighboring houses, and one of the cars “flew” onto the roof of the store. Three people were injured.

Ukraine's FPV drones are getting more lethal for Russians
Ukraine is tinkering with its fleet of first-person-view drones, one of the most popular drones in its battle with Russia in the air, to do more damage to Moscow's armored vehicles as Kyiv struggles with dwindling ammunition stocks from its Western allies, according to Newsweek.
Ukraine has said it developed armor-piercing ammunition, known as explosive-formed projectiles, compatible with its fleet of FPV drones.
According to Ukrainian media, it is designed for use against military vehicles with some measure of armor, including armored personnel carriers or infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery. The ammunition can travel at 1,800 meters per second, according to Ukrainian sources.
Explosive-formed projectiles, or penetrators, are not a new technology, but a version of standard armor-piercing-shaped charge rounds, said military expert David Hambling.
"EFPs penetrate less armor than other shaped charges, which is why they are less popular," he told Newsweek. "However, they provide a much longer range."
The main advantage for the ammunition on Ukraine's FPV drones lies in Kyiv's operators being able to trigger the round from afar. "EFPs will also zip right through cages or netting which is often used to protect vehicles from FPVs," he added.
FPV drones quickly became almost emblematic of Ukraine's efforts with unmanned aerial vehicles. They can be used to record dramatic battlefield footage where the drone careens towards Russian vehicles before exploding, or deployed as reconnaissance tools to guide artillery strikes.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Kyiv's Minister of Digital Transformation, heading up Ukraine's drone efforts against Russia, told Newsweek in December that "they work sometimes even more efficiently than artillery."
As concern deepens over Ukraine's scarce stockpile of ammunition, the new EFP ammunition attached to FPV drones may offer some help in bridging the gap between Ukraine's ammunition stores and the reality of how many shells it needs.

Russia lacks soldiers for new military districts due to war in Ukraine - UK intelligence
Russia is rapidly bolstering its military presence following the establishment of the Leningrad Military District, with speculations rife that these forces could be deployed for a potential conflict with Ukraine, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
Announcements have surfaced regarding recruitment drives for personnel into the newly formed 44th Army Corps in Luga, within the recently established Leningrad Military District.
"Russia is making efforts to expand its forces in the north-west of the country, as most of its forces remain dedicated to operations in Ukrain," the statement reads.
British intelligence suggests that Russia is likely grappling with the decision of whether to station new units, such as the 44th Army Corps, in their garrisons following their creation, or to deploy them for operations in Ukraine to bolster their combat capabilities.
"Newly established units have previously been immediately committed to Ukraine, and it is almost certain that the need to sustain operations is hampering Russia’s wider force expansion ambitions," noted the UK Ministry of Defence.
Previously, British intelligence had reported that Moscow's plans to establish two new armies this year would face shortages in new equipment and infrastructure issues. However, there will be an ample supply of soldiers.
The Russian Federation has swelled its occupation force in Ukraine to nearly half a million individuals.
Besides, Russia lacks sufficient domestic ammunition production to meet its needs in its war on Ukraine, but President Vladimir Putin has not given up his hopes of subjugating the country, Western officials said. Russia's military industry is also struggling with the impact of sanctions, the officials said, adding that the country's inability to access Western components was undermining its ability to produce new systems and repair old ones

British army would only last two months against Russia – top UK general
The British Armed Forces are not prepared for a potential confrontation with an adversary such as Russia, the deputy chief of the UK Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Robert Magowan, told a parliamentary defense committee. The military severely lacks the resources, particularly ammunition, for any such conflict, he believes.
The amount of money the government spends on ammunition, although “significant,” still “does not meet the threats we face,” Magowan stated, adding that the military would have to manage “operational risk” linked to the lack of resources.
When further pressed by MP Mark Francois, a former minister of state for the Armed Forces, about the chances of holding out against Russia, the general admitted that British forces would hardly last longer than “a couple of months in a full-on shooting war.”
Defense Secretary Grant Chapps, claimed that there was no reason to worry, since the UK would unlikely have to face Russia alone. “It’s important to understand that because we are in NATO we would never be in that situation,” he stated.
The comments came just a month after an inquiry by the Defense Committee found that the British Armed Forces were “increasingly outstretched” and thus not ready to face Russia. A year-long review of the UK’s defense capabilities released in early February concluded that the government would “never achieve warfighting or strategic readiness” without major reforms.
The document also said that the military is suffering from a recruitment crisis and is short at least 5,000 soldiers. At that time, the committee was also told by former defense chiefs that the Armed Forces had been “hollowed out” at least since 2010 and could not hold out against any major adversary in a “peer-on-peer conflict.” The troops “would have exhausted their capabilities after the first couple of months of the engagement,” the report said, according to The Telegraph. Magowan insisted that the UK was “ready for war” but just not with a nation such as Russia.

Russia knew about preparation for terrorist attack at least a month in advance – Ukraine
Russia knew about the preparation of a terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall shopping center near Moscow for at least a month. But despite this, the Kremlin decided to allow the shooting of its citizens, according to the statement of the head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.
"At least as of February 15, 2024, Russia knew about the preparation. I'll tell you more, this information passed through the intelligence group in Syria. That's where it went to Moscow. It's strange how everything materialized," said Budanov.
He clarified that the Russians knew where the combat groups would come from and through which countries they would move to Russia.
According to Budanov, there are several versions of why the Kremlin allowed the terrorist attack.
"The first is, as they usually do, “towers” fighting in Kremlin to now remove several officials. Another option is that they actually underestimated the scale of what would happen. They thought it would be more localized and wanted to blame Ukraine for everything," the head of the Defense Intelligence believes.
He reminded that the Russian authorities have already changed the version of what happened near Moscow three times, in attempts to blame Ukraine for everything. In particular, there was a version from the head of the Russian Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, who blamed Budanov himself.
"It's nonsense. By the way, if we touch on this painful issue, even though he's an enemy, I don't approve of terrorist acts against civilians in principle," he added.
As Budanov emphasized, Russia sowed chaos itself, hoping to control it.
"There is such a persistent expression, even truth. It always works among special services: everyone tries to create controlled chaos. Quite all more or less serious organizations tried to do this at different times. And the axiom is that none of them could make it controlled. The same thing happened here," he noted

Putin: We will destroy F-16s just as we destroy today’s tanks, armoured vehicles and other equipment
Russian President Vladimir Putin has slammed claims that Russia is planning to fight against Europe as utter nonsense.
"As for the allegations that we are planning to invade Europe after Ukraine, this is utter nonsense meant solely to intimidate their population to make them pay more money," he said at a meeting with military pilots in the Tver Region.
He noted that this narrative unfolds "amid the slumping economy and deteriorating living standards." "This is absolutely clear and is acknowledged by everyone. This is not propaganda. This is what is really happening. They need to justify themselves, so they are intimidating their population with a potential Russian threat while seeking to expand their dictation onto the entire world," Putin stressed.
Putin has termed as nonsense the idea of Russia starting a conflict with NATO countries.
Putin added that there was an environment of fear created by Western countries about a Russian threat to countries like Poland, the Czech Republic, or the Baltic states as a tactic to justify defence spending.
Putin during the course of his speech accused Nato of moving closer to Russian borders, and not the other way around. His comments come at a time when tensions between both the sides have increased drastically.
“They came right up to our borders. Did we go across the ocean to the borders of the United States? No, they are approaching us, and they have come very close,” Putin added.
Meanwhile, Putin has said that if Western countries supply Ukraine with F-16 fighters, the aircraft will not alter the situation on the battlefield.
“If they supply F-16s, and they are talking about this and are apparently training pilots, this will not change the situation on the battlefield. And we will destroy the aircraft just as we destroy today’s tanks, armoured vehicles and other equipment, including multiple rocket launchers,” Putin said.
Putin’s remarks came after Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the aircraft should arrive in Ukraine in the coming months.
Kyiv has been asking for F-16s. Countries like Belgium, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands have pledged to donate F-16s, while other countries have said that they would train Ukrainian pilots in their use.
