Deep beneath the crust of Jupiter's frozen moonEuropa lies a massive liquid water ocean. This panorama, taken on Feb. 20, 2021, by theNavigation Cameras, or Navcams, aboard NASA'sPerseverance Mars rover, was stitched together fromsix individual images after they were sent back toEarth. A key objective for Perseverance's mission on Mars isastrobiology, including the search for signs of ancientmicrobial life. The rover will characterize the planet'sgeology and past climate, pave the way for humanexploration of the Red Planet, and be the first missionto collect and cache Martian rock and regolith. Subsequent missions, currently under consideration byNASA in cooperation with ESA (European SpaceAgency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collectthese cached samples from the surface and returnthem to Earth for in-depth analysis. The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part ofNASA's Moon to Mars exploration approach, whichincludes Artemis missions to the Moon that will helpprepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in SouthernCalifornia built and manages operations of the Mars2020 Perseverance rover for NASA.

Today we mourn the passing of Thomas P. Stafford atthe age of 93. In December 1965, Stafford piloted Gemini VI, the firstrendezvous in space, and helped develop techniquesto prove the basic theory and practicality of spacerendezVous. Later he commanded Gemini IX and performed ademonstration of an early rendezvous that would beused in the Apollo lunar missions, the first opticalrendezvous, and a lunar orbit abort rendezvous. He served as the commander of the Apollo 10 'dressrehearsal' mission preparing for the first Moon landingand as Apollo commander of the Apollo-Soyuz TestProject (ASTP) mission, a joint space flightculminating in the historic first meeting in spacebetween American Astronauts and SovietCosmonauts, which ended the International space race. Throughout his career, Stafford helped us push theboundaries of what's possible in air and space, flyingmore than 100 different types of aircraft.

NASA hosted a news conference from the JohnsonSpace Center in Houston April 3, 2024, to announcethe companies selected to move forward in thedevelopment of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle under theLTVS (Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services)) contract. Theaward leverages NASA's expertise in developing andoperating these next generation "Moon buggies" tobuild commercial capabilities that support scientificdiscovery and long-term human exploration on theMoon. NASA intends to begin using the LTV forcrewed operations during the Artemis V mission onthe surface of the Moon.

Artemis I will be the first integrated test of NASA'sdeep space exploration systems: the Orion spacecraft,Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the groundsystems at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral,Florida. The first ina series of increasingly complexmissions, Artemis I will be an uncrewed flight test thatwill provide a foundation for human deep spaceexploration, and demonstrate our commitment andcapability to extend human existence to the Moon andbeyond. During this flight, the spacecraft will launch on themost powerful rocket in the world and fly farther thanany spacecraft built for humans has ever flown. Taiwan has been struck by its most powerfulearthquake in 25 years, which measured 7.4 inmagnitude Officials have confirmed at least four people havedied, with rescuers pulling out people trapped incollapsed buildings. Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanishfootball federation (RFEF), was arrested onWednesday as part of a corruption investigation. He was released soon after being detained on arrivalin Madrid from the Dominican Republic. He is suspected of receiving illegal commissions whennegotiating a lucrative deal to stage the Spanish SuperCup competition in Saudi Arabia. Prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year jail term. Mr Rubiales denies any wrongdoing. Rubiales is also due to go on trial for sexual assault forkissing the player Jenni Hermoso on the mouth afterlast summer's World Cup final.
