Generation World Changers March 2022
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family. In 2022 we will be making monthly videos of our journey to a more simple life; the way we believe God intended. When I think about the most important foundation I can lay for my kids, it's focusing on the skills needed to sustain life. That task is overwhelmingly larger than myself and what I have to offer. The beautiful thing about homeschooling is that we can focus our attention wherever we please. I have jotted down a list of skills that I want to begin to acquire with my family this year. I will make monthly videos as we meet with people who can help us build on our skills. I will include pieces of homestead life as well to show how everything works full circle. We are raising a Generation of World Changers.

Very fun and simple way to practice letter recognition with toddlers
My 3 year old loves playing with letters but isn't ready yet to sit and write. This is the perfect project that can easily be independent. The best part about a little book like this is you can put people and objects that your kiddo gets most excited about. It cost me maybe one dollar to make, not including the magnet letters we already had.

Our Immersive Day living in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War
Our Immersive Day living in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War! My 7 year old and I have been interested in the American Revolution for a while. We’ve read some historical fiction, among other factual books on the topic. We’ve watched videos about weapons, lifestyle of that era and much more. I secretly set a day aside to live without some current day amenities so we could get a taste of what life was actually like in those times!

How can I make sports teach necessary school subjects?
We all wish for our children to look back on their childhood with fondness and even a feeling of enchantment. Why is it, then, that we get sucked into this fast-paced culture's way of pushing our kids to be little adults? We want them to be the best, smartest, most responsible and productive... but then where is room for pure childhood? I have gotten sucked into this myself. Several times. Mom guilt never stops trying to make us feel inadequate. Am I right? But I keep coming back to my ‘why’. I want my relationship with my kids to be at the core of our homeschool. I want them to want to chase curiosity; to actually think it is fun to pursue knowledge for a lifetime. I have a 7 year old and 3 year old. They are both moving targets, which means I am constantly changing my approach, but with more people now than ever entering the homeschool space, I thought I would share what works for our family!

Estimating distance and measuring in a relatable way!
When math worksheets just aren't cutting it, we resort to estimating distance and measuring in a relatable way!

Turning child’s passion into hidden learning opportunity
My 7 year old’s spontaneous LEGO creation turned into the perfect lesson on geography, math and writing. This is what child lead learning or unschooling Looks like in our home. Learning through play is the best way!

The Heritage Chicken Project. part 5
Come ride along on our journey to find the best meat chickens for our family to continue to raise. We are a homesteading, homeschooling family who have a passion for quality food and how it comes to be. Watch the process all the way through butcher day. We’ll be raising Cornish Cross for the last time alongside some Enhanced Delaware Broilers, Rangers and Bresse. We will keep record of each group’s feed consumption, cost, compare pros and cons of raising each breed and compare the final outcome; the meat. As butcher day approaches, we will choose about 10-15 meaties to keep as our meat bird breeding team for the upcoming years. Tag along and see how this plays out!

Coded notes for my reluctant reader/writer. Shhh! Don't tell him he's learning!

We want them to be the best, smartest, most responsible and productive... but then where is room for pure childhood? I have gotten sucked into this myself. Several times. For the record: When I call him a reluctant reader/writer, I’m only talking about formal reading and writing. This kid drives everyone bonkers when we do formal worksheet-only learning. He writes nearly everyday, but as he finds the desire to do so. That is when his voice/personality really shine through on paper, which is what any good writing is all about! With reading, I don’t force it either. My husband still hates to read because we were forced to read books we had zero interest in for 10+ years in public school. I read aloud with the kids daily, which we all look forward to. Big guy (7) usually is reading right along with me, silently, and will occasionally jump in with a “why is that word in italics?” or “I didn’t know ‘might’ was an ‘ight‘ word. Is that also how you spell the bug kind of mite?” We parents need to just chill. Lol Learning is happening even when it’s not formal.
