03 Polaris Sportsman 700 engine knock / tap video #2
Apr 3, 2013 • 03 Polaris 700 4X4 that has been on fire and has burned up wiring -
I installed a used wiring harness, checked for spark, no spark, read through the repair manual and things weren't adding up, at first I thought the year was wrong because part numbers and wiring connections were incorrect for this model and year. I did some on-line research of part numbers from the ignition box and discovered this Polaris has the upgraded Ignition system from Ducati to "Kokusan ignition". So I downloaded the installation instructions, wired ignition correctly, got spark, attached an auxiliary fuel tank, got it started and it knocked.. I removed the clutch, noise still there. Removed valve cover and inspected valve train, all good. Ran ATV with valve cover removed to make sure it was getting oil to the rockers, and it is. Removed the R/S cover and flywheel, checked the stator and mounting for improper installation, all looks to be intact and in working order. Last check will be later today. I will remove the R/S stator assembly and then the R/S gear case to inspect the counter balance shaft, cam, oil and crank gears to see if there are any issues. If not, I may have to pronounce this a bad crank.
Update: I found some slop in the counterbalance shaft and crank gears. I was hopeful that was responsible for the noise. After removing the balance shaft gear so I could just rotate the crankshaft by itself, I was able to determine it has a "bad rod bearing on the #1 cylinder". With the spark plug removed from the R/S #2 cylinder there is an obvious, but slight clunk when rocking the crankshaft against the compression of the L/S #1 cylinder. When I remove the #1 spark plug, install the #2 plug and rotate crankshaft against compression, the clunk is very faint and almost indistinguishable...
As a final conformation, I put a long thin screwdriver down through the spark plug holes to the top of each piston and rocked the crank back and forth, there is definitely a rod bearing out on L/S #1 cylinder...

Mazda Rebuilt engine Oil Pressure issues - Videos 1, 2 & 3 combined
Aug 18, 2015 • I am installing a rebuilt ("ATK Manufacturing", sold through Napa) 3.0L Engine in an 04 Mazda 6. I am trying to ensure the oil system is primed before installing the engine. I'm having issues... This is all three video's I took combined into 1.
I called the Tech Line and spoke to a Mr. Eric Smith today and he was not helpful at all. I was warned they might be A-holes and this guy was close... He wasn't interested in helping except to say that I needed to "backfill it because it may have an air pocket" ? That statement right there should get him fired from his job IMHO.
Anyway when I asked for written permission to remove the front cover to inspect/prime the oil pump his response was "it's your engine do whatever you want/need to do". When I asked if it would void the warranty he said "of course not"!
Now I am not naive enough to start disassembling a $3,000 rebuilt engine because some clown on the phone says "It's ok" ! Anyway I asked for a Supervisor and was told I would have to call back and ask for one. It was 4:45 and they close around 5 so I'll call back tomorrow. I'll update the information here when I get this issue resolved.
To be continued....

Mazda Rebuilt engine finally got oil pressure
Aug 19, 2015 • Update:
This morning (19 Aug 2015) I talked to "Brian" from ATK Manufacturing. After discussing the situation with no oil pressure even after cranking the engine with the starter. He told me this engine should not have come with an oil pan and therefor there was no issue removing it to inspect the pickup tube and prime the pump manually. There was quite a bit of information shared between us and he was very helpful and professional. (Unlike the the first Clown "Eric Smith" I talked to the day before)
So I drained the oil from the engine. Rotated it 180* on the stand. Remove the oil pan, and pick up tube. Everything looked good but I couldn't see any oil inside the pump. I poured about 1/4 of a quart of clean oil into the pump a little bit at a time stopping to rotate the engine each time it was full to pump the oil through the engine. Then I replaced the pickup tube and did the same thing this time filling the pick up tube itself with oil.
After pumping about 1/2 qt of oil into the pump I replace the oil pan and turned the engine back up right. I filled the crankcase back up and turned it by hand with a breaker bar. Within about 10 rotations I could hear the oil squirting out of the lifters. Success!

1966 Montgomery Wards Riverside 450SS
Sep 8, 2011 - Here is a 1966 Montgomery Wards Riverside 450SS. That I am finishing up. It's actually an Italian made Benelli, sold by Montgomery Wards in the 60's. Customer brought me 3 of these and wanted to make two complete bikes out of them. It has been a struggle as parts are not available and literature on them is very scarce. Managed to get NOS points and condenser from a seller on eBay. Price $40.00 now that's high! Anyway had lots of trouble figuring out the magneto system as it wasn't as straight forward as one might expect. But having said that it's all most done. Had to replace the piston and rings, make a cylinder base gasket, clean carb's, manufacture flywheel key, etc.

98 Chrysler Sebring 2 .5 L High speed Engine & Transmission install
Apr 3, 2015 • This job startedout as just a transmission front pump seal replace. But after removing the transmission, I found it had a huge hole in it. Also it was going to be near impossible to re-install the Trans with the engine still installed. So I removed the engine, removed a used trans from a salvaged vehicle. Replaced the seals, filter and pan gasket. Replaced the timing belt and cleaned the engine up and reinstalled the complete assembly as seen in this video taken by one of my security Wanscam cameras.
