Reef Shark - Juvenile Mako - Encountered in the Florida Keys
Reef Shark - Juvenile Mako - encountered Aug. 2021 when Lobster Diving
(((Bottom Left)))
4 to 5 feet - I either saw two or the same one passed by twice. Both encounters I swam toward the shark and it swam off -
A bonnet head shark was trying hard to get to the lobsters in my bag. Surprised me twice getting within a few feet.
Over 5 days of diving, a total of 12 hours, this was the only dive I saw sharks. It was later in the day, almost evening. It was getting dark down there with the sun going down - I believe if we stayed longer some larger nocturnal predator's would have shown up.

Apimaye Beehive Queen Install after package Queen was dead
Apimaye Beehive Queen Install after package Queen was dead
The original queen that came with the package was DOA. Thanks to Bee Well for wasting no time at all and getting me a new queen the next day.
I made several mistakes although I now have a clear understanding of how to do this next time. While I thought bees would be somewhat aggressive they really were not -
Well I will know what to do next time! In this bout I dropped the queen cage several times. It took me while to get it right however it all worked out in the end.
It seemed they took to her right away knowing they needed a queen to sustain the hive. When I first took the cage out of the package box that arrived UPS - she did seem tired but when the girls started checking her out I could see the queen becoming much more lively.
Fingers crossed all went well. Next check will be in about 4 days -

Apimaye Beehive Package Installation - Even more gentle than No Shake
Apimaye Beehive Package Installation - Bittersweet installation - dead queen - the queen did not make the trip. Bee Well Honey Supply was quick to respond and they are sending another queen. That will make it my first time bringing in a new queen and getting her acquainted with the colony from the start.
I wanted to up my game on the install. I've always done the no shake method. I would water the bees down a little using just water, no sugar. I found a bee keeper who does the most gentle install I have ever seen and this will be they way I do the install from here on out -
Update:
The bees can not rear a new queen because this is a new hive without any eggs laid, so that's not happening.
It is possible the queen in the cage was killed by a virgin queen that somehow got into the package. If this is true and mates this could be great - as long as she likes the house.
In the meantime Bee Well is sending me another queen - She will be in a cage also - I will place her in to get to see if they accept her - if she ends dead then there is a very strong possibility there is already a lady of the house in the hive. If so fingers crossed she mates. The hive has some huge drones that I am sure will step up and take care of business.

the girls are not here yet - hoping for tomorrow and doing the install before the rain comes.

Apimaye Beehive Review
Apimaye Beehive Review - From North Georgia
Next Generation Bee Hive
The Apimaye beehive was developed to make it easier to manage a colony of bees and produce more honey.
The innovative all-round double layer insulation helps keeping the colony warm in the winter and cool in the summer. A special filling material used in the top cover and side walls of Thermo Hives provides thermal insulation, offering a suitable habitat for the colony in different climate conditions.
