Maar het zijn gewoon kerels uit veilige landen als Marokko, die met een relatief kleine investering levenslang gratis huisvesting, gratis zorg en gratis geld in West-Europa kopen. Ook voor vrouw en kinderen, met wie ze dankzij linkse advocaten snel weer herenigd zullen worden. Een win-win-win-win-situatie. Die lui een beter leven, de kapitein van de grote boot een sloot geld, de migrantenindustrie van NGO’s, asieladvocaten en nepwetenschappers als die Leo Lucassen volop werk en linkse mensen, zoals jij, een warm hart, omdat jullie ze welkom, welkom in ons land heten.” Ik sms’te mijn broer Jan met de vraag of hij mij zat te trollen. “Nee”, antwoordde hij, “ik geef je de feiten.” Dat is toch eng? Dat hij als het over vluchtelingen gaat precies hetzelfde denkt als extreem-rechts? Terwijl de waarheid is dat dat grote schip midden op zee één voor één mensen heeft opgepikt die net iets minder goed konden zwemmen dan Maarten van der Weijden. Mensen die gevlucht waren voor oorlog of die vanwege verzet tegen de dictatuur in hun land hun leven niet meer zeker waren. Dat dat grote schip die vluchtelingen naar veilige haven wilde brengen. En dat het water voor – in dit geval – de Italiaanse kust te ondiep is, dus die arme mensen voor de laatste meters moesten worden overgezet op een kleiner schip. En dat de zee juist op dat moment zo woelig was, dat ze allemaal hun paspoort verloren. Waardoor ze moeilijk kunnen bewijzen welk land ze zijn ontvlucht en ze in vluchtelingenkampen door de autoriteiten als paria’s worden behandeld. Wat weer leidt tot posttraumatische stresssyndromen, waardoor ze in hun nieuwe thuisland moeite hebben om aan werk toe te komen. Enfin, de bekende fuik, die van talentvolle architecten en hersenchirurgen uitkeringsgerechtigden maakt die weliswaar veilig zijn, maar geen doel meer hebben in hun leven. En ik ben niet naïef hè, wat extreem-rechts mensen zoals ik ook altijd verwijt. Er zal best in een énkel geval wel sprake zijn van mensensmokkel. Maar dan denk ik: jij en ik zouden ook een beter leven voor onze kinderen en kleinkinderen willen. Als ze dan eenmaal hier zijn, dan stuur je ze niet meer terug.
