Brazil’s Bolsonaro, Lula face off in first debate of run-off
Far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro and left-wing rival Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva traded jabs and insults as they squared off in their first head-to-head debate in the second and final round of Brazil’s presidential election.
Lula attacked Bolsonaro as a “little dictator” and the “king of fake news,” while Bolsonaro accused Lula of lying, corruption and a “disgraceful” record in a two-hour televised debate on Sunday night.
Voters go to the polls on October 30 to choose the man who will become Brazil’s next president with 76-year-old Lula, the charismatic but tarnished former president, holding the lead over Bolsonaro.

Lula da Silva won the Brazilian election on Monday, beating Jair Bolsonaro by a razor-thin margin.
It was hoped Bolsonaro's concession address to the nation would dampen the fervour of his supporters. It hasn't, they want a military coup.

Brazil election: Bolsonaro calls on protesters to end blockades on nation's roads Global News
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro called on protesters on Wednesday to put an end to blockades they had set up on roads across the nation in the days since the presidential runoff election.
"I'm just as upset, as sad as you. But we have to keep our head in place," he said, calling demonstrations welcome as part of democracy but the blockades on the nation's highways are making ongoing demonstrations illegitimate. He called on his supporters to choose other ways to demonstrate.
Authorities said they were making headway in their efforts to clear blockades, but there are still concerns the demonstrations were disrupting fuel distribution, industrial activity and food deliveries. Bolsonaro has not conceded his loss to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, though he said he would follow the constitution, indicating a transition was likely to take place.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won what was widely seen as Brazil’s most important election in decades by a margin of 2.1m votes – 50.9% to 49.1% – and has been quickly embraced by the international community after four years in which Brazil became a pariah under Bolsonaro.
