According to Ephesians 5:33, husbands and wives are commanded to supply separate psychological and emotional benefits for their mates. Husbands are commanded to supply LOVE, while wives are instructed to respect their husbands. This is not a simple matter of semantics. It is a distinctly different set of actions and opportunities that reflect the diversity of God’s creation. Simply stated; we don’t need the same thing from each other. We need what we need, and God has brilliantly provided a helpmeet to supply for us that which we cannot supply for ourselves.

Please understand that management of your finances is an issue of leadership that cannot be swept under the table as insignificant. If you cannot be honest or dependable in your finances, who can believe you will be honest or dependable in other areas of your life? Finances are only one of many areas of your life that testify to the depth of your relationship with God, but it is very telling. If your financial life was put on the witness stand in a court of law, would it testify for you or against you? Would it be a witness declaring a deep relationship with God or a shallow one?

The Bible teaches us that our words are connected to what is in our hearts. If we have a speech problem, it’s because we have a heart problem. Jesus told the Pharisees to clean up the inside of the cup and dish and then the outside would be clean. (Matthew 23: 25-26) In other words, to change our words, we must change our heart; or, in order to change the fruit, we have to go to the root. When a tree fails to bear good fruit, a good gardener will go to the root, examining the soil, adding nutrients if needed or eliminating damaging insects. For the words of our mouth to be good, the soil of our heart must be good.

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste!” This has been a Madison Avenue advertising quote since 1971. This admonition is certainly the essence of Biblical inspiration concerning our mind and is easily one of the major themes of our walk with the Lord. Your mind controls everything. It determines what you are, what you do, and where you’re going (Proverbs 23:7)! The Scripture has hundreds of verses that give instruction concerning the care and feeding of your mind. These Ten Laws synthesize the major concerns in developing the mind of Christ.

In ministry, it is important to have an opportunity to be mentored by a man or woman of God who reflects a level of anointing to which you aspire. Joshua had Moses; Elisha had Elijah; Timothy had Paul, and so on. Imagine what it would have been like to have had the opportunity that was afforded the disciples of Jesus… to walk daily with the Master. They practically lived with Him twenty-four hours a day for three and one-half years. After careful observation of His life patterns, they undoubtedly noticed that, before anything miraculous took place, He always followed a similar flow. Jesus would separate Himself for a moment and pray. As good students they said, “Hey, Jesus, teach us how to do that!” So, He does!

Everyone is insecure about something. Some people are very open about their insecurities, while others try to mask them. The avoidance program may involve an assorted array of coping techniques such as pretending to be confident, dysfunctional relationships, or addictive-compulsive behavior and the like. God’s Word teaches us that we can choose what we do with our insecurity. The only way we can feel secure is through a personal relationship with Christ. When we feel insecure, we must put our faith in God’s grace and His unconditional love. As we receive His grace, we choose not to seek security anywhere else.

Of all the areas of importance in your life, attitude is your most pervasive and profound personal characteristic. Changing your attitude is the precursor to changing your mind about anything. Apart from salvation, a change in attitude may have the greatest single effect on your behavior and success in life. A bad attitude ruins everything! A good attitude elevates your life!

Even though we are living in the flesh, there’s an invisible war going on around us that is not in the flesh. God has equipped us for victory in that battle, but we must engage the enemy to do so. Because we are all born in sin, we must all fight for victory over the intrusions of the devil. The world we live in offers no help, as it has also been corrupted by sin. We are fighting a battle against an evil enemy that attacks and inhabits our mind. God has given us the weapons and the strategy to win the battle for our mind.

Worry, anxiety, and fear are very similar problems, and all primarily come from the same root. The most common grouping name for the “trifecta” is STRESS. Stress is listed by most medical associations as the number one reason for sickness and disease, prescribed medications, and doctor’s office visits.

The book of Job is thought to be one of the oldest manuscripts in the Bible. It has been the source of discussion for millennia concerning the thought of suffering and righteousness. Why good people suffer seems to be the prevailing drive of the debate, but I feel the more important question in the book is how sinful mankind can be reconciled with holy God. The drama of Job is a continued cycle of well-meaning friends encouraging Job to come clean and admit his sin, so God can remove His well-deserved judgment. This type of thinking fits easily into the mindset of humanity. We’re all prone to think God operates this way. Had God not corrected this concept for us in the 7th verse of the last chapter, we might never have known that this great work is far deeper than a simple “why do bad things happen to good people” question. It’s a cry from the heart of our compassionate Heavenly Father concerning how we can come to Him and be made whole. Job sets the dialogue in Job 9:2, “I know it is so of a truth; but how should man be just before God?” Job has some friends that seek to answer his dilemma. They give him WRONG answers to his RIGHT question.

The Book of Esther is a story with two great themes: conflict and concern. The story has a villain, Haman, and a hero, God. The characters of the story are common folks, like us, who live life with daily struggles and joys. Life is always difficult to predict, especially when it’s being imposed upon by an enemy intent upon destruction. Hey, NO WORRIES! God’s got my back!

Of the twenty-six parables that Jesus shared, perhaps none is so rich with truth as the Parable of the Talents. A “talent” was a measure of weight that represented the dollar value of a specific item based on that weight. In this parable the talent has been estimated to represent as much as twenty years of a day laborers wage. It is easy to read this parable and think only in terms of money. You may think about people that have a lot of money and live sinfully. Media is filled with stories of exorbitantly rich people hat live miserable lives. God is interested in the financial area of our life, but He wants every area of our lives to be blessed. “It is the blessing of the Lord that makes a man rich; He adds no sorrow to it” (Proverbs 10:22). I would like to have the blessing of money, but, more importantly, I would like it to come into a blessed life! These five truths show us the values that allow us to live a life that God can bless.
