Pug got his frame upgraded plus we made some cool builder's plates.

Pug has earned an upgrade for all the work that he did in paving the way for a method of completely scratch building a diesel locomotive. Let's take a look at him right now before we do any upgrading.

time to wire these trucks and mount our new sideframe using some silicone hose. judge for yourself if you think the copy we made is better than the original...

We successfully used Amazing Remelt to cast the missing sideframe and we remebered how to clean it up after!

Remember when we started that 1 of the sideframes was missing? So what we need to do is cast a new one from resin. We're going to use some Amazing Remelt and some Model Pro Resin.

I'm going to show you a generic method of creating number boards for your locomotives that looks great. These boards are created in a drawing program and then printed onto a 4x6 piece of photo paper. I use Epson 4x6 Premium Semigloss paper, but any stiff paper will work. I am telling you that you should do this using Inkscape because it will add to your skills. For this video I'm still using the ancient freehand program which is not what you should do! The concepts and principles are the same, but Inkscape is superior.

We need to do some milling to prepare for mounting the REVOLUTION 1 motor. We're using a Klutch 49657 Mini-Mill from Northern Tool. This is an excellent machine and here we're going to mill some very soft zince alloy that is extremely difficult to clamp into the vise.

Let's paint and dry brush the Bachmann Spectrum Dash 8-40C aka C40-8. We're using Ace Hardware White Primer to start and then Citadel Contrast Blood Angels Red for our paint. Finally we'll use Citadel Dry Changeling Pink for our dry brushing. We also used some Tamiya Panel Liner.

This is the 700th video we've done! This is the intro to the 2022 Holiday Special where we will do a total rebuild of a split-frame Bachmann Spectrum Dash 8-40C aka C40-8. This year there will be parts because this rebuild is huge! There's also a new playlist where I'll put the previous specials.

We've got the old Atlas (by Roco) High Nose GP38 rebuilt and the REVOLUTION 1 Motor installed using silicone drive shafts. We've set it up for a DCC Digitrax DH126D decoder - but first let's test it with DC.

We put 2 flatcars that have tanks superglued to the decks outside for 10 days and froze them at extreme low temperatures. This is how you remove that tough superglue.

Another broken frame repair using JB Kwik epoxy vs zinc alloy and brass.

We're going to use a layer paint to highlight the edges of our shells before we drybrush.

I finally got a hot air station, so let's just have a quick look to see how it arrives new in the box. I also got a set of extra nozzles and some special clear rosin flux.

This is the 675 block made from a 1x2 inch piece of lumber that we use to check width of things we put inside an HO scale - scale width hood. We can also layout our electronics and DCC builds to make sure they will fit inside the shell.

The PC-11 epoxy worked to tack our zinc frame so we could use some JB Kwik epoxy and some flat brass stock to fix the broken frame. This was a total succes. Also a look at how we're going to mount the REV1 motor on the old Atlas High Nose GP38.

We're going to reinforce the zinc frame with some stiff brass using JB Kwik epoxy which has a 6 minute working time. This will give a little extra protection to the weak point that we tacked in place with PC-11 epoxy.

We have a broken zinc alloy frame that needs to be fixed and a pair of scissors. PC-11 is an epoxy that also is used in water applications. Here, we're going to see if it can repair the GP38 zinc alloy frame and my scissors. We'll find out if it worked later - don't worry about seeing the end result, I''tell you how it does.
