So how have Islamic State still managed to recruit hundreds of young Kurds to fight for the Caliphate against their own families? "There are Kurdish families in Halabja whose sons are in IS and their hearts are broken, but I'll never go to their funerals", says the grieving mother of Kaihan Borhan, a Kurd who died fighting with the Peshmarga against IS. Her family is distraught that the people responsible for his death could well be Kurdish nationals. "I have a friend whose brother died fighting for ISIS", says Kaihan's brother. "I never grieved for him and my friend cannot bear to look me in the eye." In this report we see the path to extremism that many Kurds have taken. Dissatisfaction at the Kurdish Intelligence service, Asayish's persecution of Muslims and domestic grievances are being skilfully exploited by IS propaganda, led by Khattab Al-Kurdi and his Saladin Brigade. their information from more 2:33 popular sources of media Gaza is not now 2:36 Under Siege Israel has been under siege 2:39 for 75 years to understand how biased 2:43 American media coverage of the war in 2:45 Gaza can be just turn on the television 2:48 you can see it in what is condemned and 2:51 what is condoned in who is the humanized 2:54 and who is not in what is questioned and 2:58 to what extent our newspapers our 3:01 journalists our cable news networks are 3:03 not pushing American officials enough 3:06 they're not asking them to condemn the 3:09 Israeli Prime Minister talking about 3:11 genocidal Biblical verses to justify 3:14 their military campaign the goal is to 3:16 destroy Hamas Hamas is creating these 3:19 casualties not Israel I I don't think 3:20 anyone's asking NE well some people may 3:23 be asking is real to apologize but 3:25 that's not what I'm asking about I don't 3:27 think to this day there is a single 3:29 editorial board um in the United States 3:32 that has actually called for a ceasefire 3:35 in spite of the Carnage you know you're 3:37 actually seeing some Israeli press take 3:39 stronger and Bolder stances as opposed 3:42 to newspaper editorial boards here in 3:43 the country that have more or less 3:45 fallen in line with what the state 3:47 Department's party line is you have seen 3:51 um American politicians like Marco Rubio 3:54 or Nikki Haley using genocidal language 3:59 of about Gaza and I'll say this to to 4:02 prime minister Netanyahu finish them 4:04 Marco Rubio said I don't think there's 4:06 any way Israel can be expected to 4:08 coexist or find some diplomatic off-ramp 4:12 uh with these Savages and neither of 4:14 those comments were treated with the 4:17 kind of shock they deserved to be 4:20 treated 4:22 with Americans were among those 4:25 horrified by the gruesome images they 4:27 saw on October 7th after hamas's attack 4:31 that killed more than 1,400 Israelis 4:34 since then too many in the US media have 4:36 been taking their cues from the Biden 4:39 Administration it's insistence that what 4:41 Israel is doing despite the killing of 4:43 more than 10,000 Palestinians somehow 4:47 remains an act of self-defense almost 4:49 every military analyst has said that a 4:51 ceasefire could give Hamas that 4:52 opportunity to regroup and Carry Out 4:54 Future attacks and we saw more than 2/3 4:56 of Americans now want a ceasefire it is 4:59 is a growing movement that is 5:01 insufficiently reflected in the 5:03 mainstream media commentary which often 5:05 draws the line well short of that what 5:08 about Israeli officials that I that I've 5:10 talked to about these calls for a 5:12 ceasefire they say that just gives Hamas 5:14 time to regroup interviewees tend to 5:16 repeat the Israeli media's talking 5:18 points on Hamas hospitals and human 5:21 Shields the storing of Munitions all 5:24 kinds of explosives under hospitals 5:28 under refugee camps under civilian 5:31 targets the use of civilians uh as 5:35 really just tools of War um by Hamas 5:40 those are claims that Israel has made 5:42 many times before but have never been 5:44 verified on the question of 5:46 representation and who gets to be heard 5:49 a body speaking for Arab and Middle 5:50 Eastern journalists says it is deeply 5:53 troubled by reports the journalists of 5:56 Middle Eastern descent are being 5:58 sidelined from report reporting or 6:00 commenting on the current War while 6:02 suggestions for nuance and precise 6:04 language in reporting are being ignored 6:07 in 6:08 newsrooms there's not necessarily you 6:11 know this red line that editors have 6:13 that you know you're not allowed to say 6:15 this or you're not allowed to say that 6:17 there is a culture of fear in our 6:20 institutions here about talking honestly 6:22 and freely about this because whenever 6:24 something that sheds light on human 6:27 rights violations committed by Israel 6:29 there's usually a massive push back 6:31 campaign and people are afraid of it 6:33 newspapers like the New York Times And 6:34 The Washington Post have done an 6:36 admirable job um of reporting uh on 6:39 what's going on in Gaza I've seen plenty 6:41 of Stories of the coverage of Civilian 6:44 harm in Gaza cable television by 6:46 contrast you know because of the sort of 6:49 nature of cable TV it's sort of short 6:51 segments kind of favoring sound bites 6:53 the sort of type of analysis you're 6:55 getting there is just truncated and 6:57 often um 7:02 misinformed when taking in the coverage 7:04 of Gaza or even scrolling through their 7:06 social media Americans should consider 7:09 who they are not hearing from voices 7:12 that have been silenced journalists who 7:14 have been fired over the positions they 7:16 have taken online they include a New 7:19 York Times magazine writer who signed a 7:22 joint letter opposing the Israel Gaza 7:24 war was questioned by her editor about 7:27 that and ended up resigning after the 7:30 editor of Harper's bizarre magazine 7:32 tweeted that Israel's cutting off power 7:34 to Gaza was inhuman the Magazine's 7:37 parent company Hurst banned its 7:40 employees from expressing personal 7:42 political opinions on social media this 7:45 goes beyond news outlets into the art 7:48 world the new york-based magazine art 7:50 Forum fired its editor-in chief after he 7:53 signed a petition calling for a 7:55 ceasefire one that neglected to condemn 7:58 hamas's attack on October 7th it seems 8:02 like the top 8:03 Executives of these uh corporate media 8:06 Outlets are actually in a pitched battle 8:08 with the producers who want to tell a 8:10 different story I have been blacklisted 8:13 by several outlets as I've been told by 8:14 producers my Clips have also been 8:17 censored and even though they've aired 8:18 live have not been posted on their 8:21 websites the explanations for it is that 8:23 I either made the anchor look bad or 8:26 that I'm too advoca none of the reasons 8:29 provided have to do with I said 8:32 something that wasn't true or I was uh 8:35 inflammatory in any way it was literally 8:38 other reasons in order to craft a 8:40 particular kind of story where we can 8:43 express empathy for Palestinian lives 8:46 but not point the finger about why they 8:51 are being killed in a genocidal campaign 8:53 and who is doing 8:55 it to express support for Palestine 9:00 brings many different risks it risks you 9:04 um being ostracized within the broader 9:07 media World it risks you not getting uh 9:12 career opportunities it risks you being 9:15 on the front page of a tabloid newspaper 9:18 um you know and labeled a terrorist 9:20 sympathizer and that is reflected in 9:24 both the coverage from the last month 9:26 and also the broader climate of 9:29 repression that we have seen in so many 9:33 different areas of public 9:37 life after almost a month of locking the 9:40 international media out of the war zone 9:43 and then disputing the reporting of 9:45 Palestinians inside Gaza Israel finally 9:48 allowed some Western journalists to 9:50 enter this past week under certain 9:53 conditions the reporters have to be 9:55 embedded with Israeli forces that act as 9:58 their protectors 9:59 and ultimately their editors as a 10:02 condition to enter Gaza under IDF escort 10:05 Outlets have to submit all materials and 10:07 footage to the Israeli military for 10:10 review prior to publication I applaud 10:12 CNN and others were at least telling 10:14 their audiences that their information 10:16 is filtered by the Israeli State CNN has 10:19 agreed to these terms in order to 10:21 provide you the viewers a limited window 10:25 into Israel's operations in Gaza but I 10:28 think that should have done more to push 10:30 back against the conditions that first 10:32 that they had to be embedded with the 10:34 Israeli military and that second none of 10:36 their coverage would be published 10:37 without the approval of the state so 10:40 literally all that's filtering out is 10:42 State propaganda the population will be 10:44 able to go from the north to the South 10:47 surely and all freely in order to get 10:49 the IDF do what it need to do in order 10:51 to do demolish Kamas and I think here 10:54 it's incumbent upon audiences to 10:57 exercise scrutiny why why is Israel 10:59 preventing a Foreign Press from entering 11:02 Good Morning America on ABC News where 11:05 they said this was a rare short and 11:07 quite intense opportunity to see what 11:09 the situation is like in Gaza on the 11:11 ground it's only rare if you are 11:15 overlooking all of the journalism from 11:18 inside Gaza going towards the violence 11:21 not away from it through unbearable 11:24 conditions to actually bring the world 11:27 these stories I just was 11:31 to give water to my 11:34 grandma and right 11:37 here a house there around three dozen 11:40 journalists inside Gaza have been killed 11:44 reporting through unimaginable 11:48 personal emotional trauma losing their 11:52 families and to 11:57 erase all of that is very very shameful 12:02 and when you close your eyes at night 12:03 what is it you think about that is not 12:05 to dismiss some quality American news 12:07 coverage of this war and its impact on 12:10 Palestinian civilians this CNN interview 12:13 with a nurse who worked in Gaza will 12:15 stick with viewers there were children 12:19 with just massive burns down their faces 12:22 down their necks all over their limbs 12:25 and because the hospitals are so 12:27 overwhelmed they are being charged 12:29 immediately after and still US News 12:32 output is pulling its punches on the 12:34 scale of the killing the mass 12:36 displacement the crimes against humanity 12:40 in examining this war perhaps Americans 12:42 need to reflect on some of their own 12:44 Colonial history to remember that all 12:47 colonizers including Americans started 12:50 out by occupying the land of the other 12:54 the fact that for most Americans they 12:56 cannot critically examine Israel also 12:59 represents their own blind spots of 13:01 understanding themselves as living 13:02 within a settler racial Colony as 13:05 benefiting from white supremacy on lands 13:07 that are still colonized and not seated 13:10 by over 500 indigenous Nations 13:13 everything that we can critique 13:15 Americans for failing to see in the 13:17 humanity of Palestinians reflects their 13:19 own inability to see 13:24 themselves so Palestine here is not an 13:27 exception the rule is a colonial 13:30 framework and a liberal understanding 13:33 that somehow we've overcome colonialism 13:35 which is not true we continue to exist 13:38 in an enduring Colonial 13:43 reality the vast majority of mainstream 13:45 news outlets in the US are corporate 13:48 owned elsewhere in the anglosphere 13:50 though publicly funded broadcasters are 13:52 taking heat over their coverage of the 13:54 Gaza story and some of that as Nick mad 13:57 explains comes from within 13:59 first up Richard is the BBC in the UK 14:02 Ramy Rim the Network's correspondent in 14:04 Beirut sent an email to director General 14:06 Tim Davy expressing his concerns he 14:09 argued that historical context and 14:11 significant information including expert 14:14 opinion that Israel's actions could 14:16 amount to genocide was either entirely 14:18 missing or not being given due 14:20 prominence when Davy failed to reply to 14:23 that email rayim shared it with the rest 14:25 of his colleagues at the BBC in Canada a 14:28 lawyer journalist had similar things to 14:30 say about cbc's coverage he interrupted 14:33 a speech the network CEO Katherine Tate 14:35 was giving you are not telling the truth 14:37 as an organization about the genocide 14:39 happening in Gaza before the eyes of the 14:41 world in Australia more than 200 14:43 employees at ABC met to point out issues 14:47 again over terminology and the Network's 14:49 Reliance on Israeli military's talking 14:51 points they also called out ABC's 14:54 refusal to use certain terms such as 14:56 occupation apartate and genocide even 15:00 Invasion but just back to the UK for a 15:02 moment and an instance of Journalism 15:04 that Rose to the challenge Channel 4's 15:06 sakander kamani was embedded with the 15:08 Israeli military in Gaza when they came 15:11 across Palestinians fleeing the 15:13 bombardment we're not allowed by the 15:15 military to go any closer Israeli 15:18 soldiers can prevent journalists 15:19 embedded with them from interviewing 15:21 gazan refugees what they cannot do is 15:24 stop those news organizations from 15:26 working with Palestinian reporters to 15:28 tell that side of the story footage 15:31 filmed on the salahudin road by 15:33 Palestinian journalists gives you a true 15:36 sense of scale and showcasing the scale 15:39 of this tragedy is something Channel 4 15:41 has been very effective in doing thanks 15:43 Nick Israel's hasbara campaign its PR 15:47 effort to win diplomatic backing and 15:49 shape public perception is an overdrive 15:52 these days not that it's really needed 15:54 in places like India prime minister 15:56 Narendra Modi has been crystal clear 15:58 clear in his backing of this war New 16:00 Deli says it sees it as an act of 16:03 counterterrorism and self-defense just 16:05 last month when the UN voted in favor of 16:08 a humanitarian pause India abstained 16:12 Indo Israeli relations have been on the 16:14 upswing for the past few years now the 16:17 image of Israel is a Hightech prosperous 16:19 nation that survives in a region 16:22 populated by quote unquote enemies 16:24 resonates with many Indians and they've 16:26 been showing their support through posts 16:29 online rants on television with some 16:32 disinformation thrown in to skew how 16:34 this conflict is understood the 16:36 listening posts minak shiavi now on the 16:39 pro-israeli messaging that's coming out 16:41 of India and why it 16:44 matters Israel is at War we didn't want 16:48 this war it was forced Upon Us in the 16:51 most brutal and Savage way 2 days after 16:53 Hamas Fighters burst out of Gaza and 16:56 carry out one of the most audacious 16:58 attacks on Israeli territory prime 17:00 minister Benjamin netanyahu's office 17:02 posts this video online Hamas will 17:05 understand that by attacking us they've 17:08 made a mistake of historic proportions 17:11 within minutes the message has thousands 17:13 of shares and replies numerous Israeli 17:16 posts demand netanyahu's resignation but 17:19 there's another set of messages from 17:21 Indians and they are all in so the 17:25 responses from Indian accounts have been 17:28 extra Ary to say the least sometimes 17:30 they put up posters in which they say we 17:33 stand with Israel sometimes they put 17:35 Graphics of two hands in a clasp painted 17:38 with Israeli and Indian Flags sometimes 17:40 theyve just tried to reflect on how this 17:44 conflict in Gaza mirrors the kind of 17:46 challenges that India faces security 17:48 wise when we try to understand why is 17:51 there such a widespread interest in 17:53 India with respect to this particular 17:55 conflict one of the things is a shared 17:57 experience of ter terrorism when October 17:59 7th happened hamas's attack on Israel in 18:02 India almost immediately parallels were 18:05 drawn with the 2611 experience which 18:07 were a major terrorist attack happening 18:10 on the Indian city of Mumbai in 2008 to 18:13 me it had a lot of shades of our own 18:16 2611 uh when you had terrorists coming 18:19 from Pakistan on boats and uh uh 18:22 creating the rampage that they did this 18:24 major space that Israel suddenly started 18:27 to occupy in the Indian imagination was 18:29 because that common threat was found the 18:33 same radical 18:35 jihadist islamist terrorist 18:39 thinking that Israel is a victim of we 18:42 are a victim of as well Israel is 18:43 fighting this war on behalf of all of 18:46 us Israel is fighting this war for you 18:49 and me new delhi's support for Israel 18:52 was Swift and unequivocal prime minister 18:54 Narendra Modi tweeted in solidarity an 18:57 Indian news Outlet as though on Q went 18:59 on a war footing themselves channels 19:02 that just a few months earlier had not 19:04 seen fit to send their journalists to 19:06 cover unprecedented violence in India's 19:09 Northeastern State of Manipur they 19:11 dispatched reporters all the way to 19:13 Israel heavy bombs are being used right 19:16 now to take out the Hamas leadership and 19:19 you know there is collateral damage 19:20 proclamations of Vengeance and calls for 19:23 Mass killing were issued from Indian 19:25 news 19:26 Studios policy 19:28 1 for 19:35 [Music] 19:36 one the coverage I think has been 19:39 extremely sensationalist and 19:45 dramatic there was a reporter who was 19:48 asked to quiet down by Israeli soldiers 19:51 because of how loudly he was trying to 19:54 cover what was happening then there's 19:56 another reporter from a channel who was 19:59 reporting from a paraglider after 20:01 reports came out that Hamas crossed the 20:04 border on 20:08 paragliders there's also been 20:11 misinformation shared by Indian news 20:13 channel there was a video of a group of 20:17 people carrying what looked like a dead 20:18 body but when they put down the person 20:21 the person got up and walked away so 20:23 this uh video was shared with the claim 20:25 that Palestinians are faking the death 20:27 of the victims but this video turned out 20:31 to be from 2020 and it was shot in 20:34 Jordan uh during Co lockdown and it invented a set of of his own 21:04 [Music] 21:09 lies and then lamented about the kind of 21:11 small pockets of support that some 21:15 Indian Muslims have shown or displayed 21:17 for Palestinians uh in India and he 21:19 asked them do you want Hamas to come to 21:22 India this is how hate and 21:23 misinformation works you keep repeating 21:26 something again and again again and 21:28 again that you know there is Islamic 21:31 Terror and how Israel is trying to 21:33 protect itself and then there is a 21:35 Muslim threat in India and how Hindus 21:37 are trying to protect themselves and if 21:39 you keep repeating this there comes a 21:42 time when people who are consuming this 21:44 or who may be misinformed when they see 21:47 that Muslims are treated with a lot of 21:49 violence they can one justify it or two 21:52 just say that they deserve it so what 21:54 happens is that you take away how a 21:57 normal human being would react to 21:59 someone who is facing violence and this 22:02 is essentially what hate and 22:03 disinformation achieves modern day India 22:06 and the state of Israel came into being 22:07 within a year of each other India 22:10 through its independence from British 22:11 rule in 1947 Israel through its 22:13 expulsion of Palestinians and the 22:15 establishment of the state in 1948 on 22:18 the question of Palestine India's 22:20 independence leaders Mahatma Gandhi and 22:22 jawaharlal nehu they were vocal in their 22:25 support in 1936 when Palestinian rose up 22:28 against the British and their push for a 22:30 Jewish State Neu compared Palestine with 22:33 India under colonial rule he talked 22:35 about a gross betrayal of the Arabs by 22:37 British imperialism Palestine was not an 22:40 empty land it was well populated with 22:43 little room for large numbers of 22:44 colonists is it any wonder that the 22:47 Arabs objected to this intrusion a 22:50 little more than 10 years later when the 22:51 United Nations voted to create the state 22:53 of Israel there were only three non-arab 22:56 countries that voted against that 22:57 resolution 22:58 India was one of them times have changed 23:01 so have the 23:03 geopolitics historically speaking I mean 23:05 I'm refering to the post 1947 era which 23:08 is when we got Independent India and 23:10 Israel haven't really had a very nice or 23:12 cozy relationship that you probably see 23:14 now that has come after 2014 which is 23:17 when Prime Minister Modi has come to 23:19 power 23:22 shom oh what a great great day great day 23:26 and of course one of the reasons is that 23:28 both these countries have nationalistic 23:30 governments and that perhaps is one of 23:32 the ideological uh reasons why uh you 23:35 know the relationship has taken off so 23:37 relations between you know India and 23:39 Israel did not start with Narendra Modi 23:41 but what happens in 2014 is Modi and 23:44 Netanyahu meet properly officially at 23:47 the UN General Assembly in New York and 23:50 they agree at that moment to quote tear 23:53 down the remaining walls between the two 23:55 countries India purchases around 50% % 23:58 of all weapons sold by Israel per year 24:01 and India is also beginning to 24:02 co-produce weapons and they're working 24:04 in agriculture they're working in Tech 24:06 they're working in cyber security 2017 24:08 was the first time that an Indian Prime 24:10 Minister actually traveled to Israel and 24:13 you see a kind of an um you know upgrade 24:15 in the relations ever 24:26 since 24:31 in the past month India has reaffirmed 24:33 its support for the establishment of a 24:34 Palestinian State the so-called 24:36 two-state solution uh towards 24:39 establishing a sovereign independent and 24:41 viable state of Palestine New Delhi has 24:44 also sent medical and disaster relief 24:46 Aid to gazans how much of that made it 24:49 pass the Israeli blockade and into the 24:51 strip is not known the war is a big 24:54 story in India and as it rages on it is 24:57 folding into another even bigger 24:59 domestic story India is going into a 25:02 huge election next year and this issue 25:04 will serve as a way to consolidate the 25:06 Hindu nationalist base in India it 25:08 serves Modi very well electorally to be 25:10 seen as close to Israel as a country 25:12 that's able to put Muslims in their 25:14 place but it's also about modernizing 25:15 the state the BJP has pushed this 25:18 narrative that in order to be a strong 25:20 militaristic Global player it had to be 25:23 close to Israel all this rhetoric around 25:25 minorities and the domestic sentiment 25:27 with respect to minorities I think it is 25:29 really not understood well and it is 25:32 often you know foreign media that falls 25:34 for a certain kind of narrative and that 25:37 leads to a rather skewed understanding 25:40 of how Indian societies actually operate 25:43 I think it is too soon to tell how this 25:45 war will will play out when it comes to 25:48 um elections in India next year but 25:50 there are already po that are claiming 25:52 you know you have to stand up against 25:55 Islamic terrorism otherwise what The King of Kings is a 1927 American silent epic film produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille. It depicts the last weeks of Jesus before his crucifixion and stars H. B. Warner in the lead role. Featuring the opening and resurrection scenes in two-color Technicolor, the film is the second in DeMille's Biblical trilogy, preceded by The Ten Commandments (1923) and followed by The Sign of the Cross (1932). Plot Duration: 1 minute and 20 seconds.1:20 The King of Kings (1931 re-release trailer) Mary Magdalene is portrayed as a wild courtesan, entertaining many men around her. Upon learning that Judas is with a carpenter she rides out on her chariot drawn by zebras to get him back. Peter is introduced as the Giant apostle, and we see the future gospel writer Mark as a child who is healed by Jesus. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is shown as a beautiful and saintly woman who is a mother to all her son's followers. The first sight of Jesus is through the eyesight of a little girl, whom he heals. He is surrounded by a halo. Mary Magdelene arrives afterwards and talks to Judas, who reveals that he is only staying with Jesus in hopes of being made a high official after Jesus becomes the king of kings. Jesus casts the Seven Deadly Sins out of Mary Magdalene in a multiple exposure sequence. Jesus is also shown resurrecting Lazarus and healing the little children. Some humor is derived when one girl asks if he can heal broken legs, and, when he says yes, she gives him a legless doll. Jesus smiles and repairs the doll. The crucifixion is foreshadowed when Jesus, having helped a poor family, wanders through the father's carpentry shop, and, himself a carpenter's son, he briefly helps carve a piece of wood. When a sheet covering the object is removed, it is revealed to be a cross towering over Jesus. Jesus and his apostles enter Jerusalem, where Judas incites the people and rallies them to proclaim Jesus as the King of the Jews. Jesus, however, renounces all claims of being an Earthly king. Caiaphas the High Priest is also angry at Judas for having led people to a man whom he sees as a false prophet. Meanwhile, Jesus drives away Satan, who had offered him an Earthly kingdom, and he protects a woman caught in adultery. The words he draws in the sand are revealed to be the sins the accusers themselves committed. Judas, desperate to save himself from Caiaphas, agrees to turn over Jesus. Noticeably at the Last Supper, when Jesus distributes the bread and wine saying that they are his body and blood, Judas refuses to eat or drink. Towards the end, Mary confronts her son and tells him to flee from the danger that is coming. Jesus replies that it must be done for the salvation of all peoples. Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane where he is soon captured by the Roman soldiers and betrayed by Judas. Judas' life is saved, but, upon seeing that Jesus is going to be killed as a result, he is horrified. Judas takes a rope that the Romans had used to bind Jesus' wrists and runs off. Jesus is beaten and then presented by Pontius Pilate to the crowd. Mary pleads for the life of her son and Mary Magdalene speaks for him but Caiaphas bribes the crowd to shout against Jesus. Jesus is taken away to be crucified, though he pauses on the Via Dolorosa to heal a group of cripples in an alley, despite his weakened condition. Jesus is crucified and his enemies throw insults at him. (One woman even anachronistically eats popcorn and smiles with glee at Jesus' crucifixion.) When Jesus does die, however, there is a great earthquake. The tree where Judas had hanged himself, with the rope used to bind Jesus's wrists, is swallowed up amidst bursts of hellfire. The sky turns black, lightning strikes, the wind blows, the people who had mocked Jesus run in terror, and the veil covering the Holy of Holies in the Jerusalem Temple is torn in two. The tumult ends when Mary looks up at heaven and asks God to forgive the world for the death of their son. The chaos ends and the sun shines. Jesus is taken down from the cross and is buried. On the third day, he rises from the dead as promised. To emphasize the importance of the resurrection, this scene from an otherwise black and white film is shot in color. Jesus goes to the Apostles and tells them to spread his message to the world. He tells them "I am with you always" as the scene shifts to a modern city to show that Jesus still watches over his followers. The 1927 Cummings trial for divorce from her husband Frank Elliott revealed that DeMille, because Christians would not accept any reflections cast upon Christ or his mother, had Cummings sign a contract on August 21, 1926, that regulated her private life for seven years. It included clauses that prevented her from divorcing her husband for any act, to do anything that would give her husband grounds for divorce, or play a prostitute or similar role in any film.[5] The contract did not prevent the divorce. Release The King of Kings was the first movie that premiered at the noted Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, California on May 18, 1927.[6] The film was screened there again on May 24, 1977, to commemorate the theater's 50th anniversary. May 11, 2023 One year ago, on May 11, 2022, an Israeli soldier fatally shot the Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the head as she was reporting on an Israeli military raid just outside the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. She was shot while wearing a blue helmet and blue flak jacket clearly emblazoned with the word "press." Abu Akleh was one of the most prominent TV journalists in the Arab world and had worked for Al Jazeera for a quarter of a century. She was also a U.S. citizen. But a year after her death, no one has been held accountable despite detailed testimony from eyewitnesses to the shooting. We air excerpts from the Al Jazeera investigation The Killing of Shireen Abu Akleh_, which just won a George Polk Award, and speak with correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous. "There's still no justice in her case, no accountability whatsoever," says Abdel Kouddous. He adds that while the White House has been very vocal about the case of _Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who is detained in Russia, the response to Abu Akleh's killing has been muted.
