Physics is defined as the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The word ‘theory’ is described by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary as, “a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena.” Although defined as plausible explanations, theories in the field of physics are considered to be facts, and we are conditioned to believe in them. We are also taught to respect the creators of such theories as experts and the authorities in their field. In today’s conversation Dawn Lester speaks with Doctor Steve Young who has an MSci in theoretical physics and a PhD in nuclear physics, so he is eminently qualified to discuss these theories. In our conversation, we discuss some of the fundamental theories within the field of physics and show how they remain unproven and how they are used to promote certain ideologies that impact all our lives. Science is usually defined by reference to the acquisition of knowledge about the world. This means science must be an ongoing process. Yet we are often given the impression that in many fields, the science is settled; that the experts have found the answers to their enquiries; and that these answers cannot be questioned by anyone outside that field, because they do not understand the ‘science’ involved. But this is dogma, not science. Unfortunately, most fields of scientific enquiry function by reference to dogma rather than true science, because critical thinking and the ability to question authority are not permitted - but authority does not necessarily represent truth. A saying attributed to Mahatma Gandhi is: An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it. In today’s conversation, Dawn Lester speaks with Mike Donio, a scientist with 20 years experience in the field, 15 of which have been within the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, to discuss why it is so important to retain critical thinking, an open mind, and a willingness to question authority, especially within the field of science. Questioning Authority: Education & Science - More Misplaced Trust Introduction and show notes: Most of us spend our childhood years in school where we are taught ‘facts’ that need to be learned so that we can pass exams. This is called education. We are told that the facts we learn and then regurgitate in those exams, are the result of great works performed by experts in their fields whose views we must simply respect and learn. But there are serious problems with this approach. One of the clues to this, is that we are increasingly discouraged from questioning the work of ‘experts’. But how can this enable us to make progress? If we cannot examine existing ideas, how can we know if they are still correct? How can we know if they need to be updated or improved or even abandoned because their underlying theories have been found to be flawed? In today’s conversation, medical doctor specialising in urology Jordan Grant and independent researcher, Dawn Lester will discuss some of the fundamental problems with the ideas on which much of science is based, and show that we need to absolutely reject the notion that we are not allowed to question the experts. We are bombarded on a daily basis by the mainstream media that urges us all to ‘trust the science’ as if there were only one true scientific message and that all scientists are in agreement with that message. The purpose of this media bombardment is to ensure that we do not question the scientists or their narrative.
