35 Years ago an event changed the way we look at nuclear energy. The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear reactor accident that occurred on Saturday 26 April 1986 35 years ago. The meltdown happened at Unit No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat, in the former USSR. The accident started during a safety test on an RBMK-type nuclear reactor, and was one in a long list of disaster linked to this reactor type. Learn while you're at home
