Soyuz MS-23 International Space Station Undocking
NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin gave farewell remarks ahead of hatch closure of the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft on September 27. Following hatch closure, the spacecraft undocked from the International Space Station’s Prichal module, returning to Earth a few hours later for a parachute-assisted landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. During his mission, Rubio broke the record for longest single spaceflight for a U.S. astronaut spending 371 consecutive days living and working aboard the microgravity laboratory to advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate new technologies for future human and robotic exploration missions as part of NASA’s Moon and Mars exploration approach, including lunar missions through NASA’s Artemis program. .

Detecting Sargassum Algae from Space
Though it plays an important role in marine ecosystems, Sargassum algae can be a problem when it grows too much. The large mats of floating brown algae can slow down boats, clog machinery, and harm wildlife when it washes up on beaches.
Using NASA satellite data, Chuanmin Hu, a professor at the University of South Florida, developed the Sargassum Watch System (SaWS). This tool forecasts and monitors the location, movement direction, and speed of Sargassum blooms.
Using real-time satellite imagery accessible online, people can monitor Sargassum and receive monthly reports with current and predicted bloom information.
Plant managers, fishers, scientists, and decision makers around the world use imaging from SaWS to prepare for Sargassum events and protect local communities during emergencies.

Expedition 70 International Space Station Spacewalk Preview News Conference - Oct. 6, 2023
Ahead of an upcoming series of spacewalks scheduled for October 12 and October 20, Dana Weigel, deputy program manager, International Space Station, Elias Myrmo, spacewalk flight director, Faruq Sabur, U.S. spacewalk 89 officer, and Sandra Fletcher, U.S. spacewalk 90 officer, discussed the procedures and tasks for the spacewalks and answered questions from media and social media on October 6. During the spacewalk on Oct. 12, NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andy Mogensen will exit the station’s Quest airlock to collect samples for analysis to see whether microorganisms may exist on the exterior of the orbital complex. They also will replace a high-definition camera on the port truss of the station and conduct other maintenance work to prepare for future spacewalks. During the spacewalk on Oct. 20 O’Hara and NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli will complete the removal of a faulty electronics box, called a Radio Frequency Group, from a communications antenna on the starboard truss of the station and replace one of twelve Trundle Bearing Assemblies on the port truss Solar Alpha Rotary Joint.

NASA’s The Quiet Crew | Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, meet Walt Silva and Jessica Arreola. Their stories demonstrate the positive impact of a diverse workforce, and their perspective is vital to the success of NASA’s Quesst mission. They are part of the crew on a mission to transform aviation as NASA and communities work together to verify that the X-59’s quiet, supersonic design can turn a sonic boom into a sonic thump. This new technology, along with a potential change in regulations, will allow airliners to fly faster over land, cutting passenger travel time in half without disturbing people on the ground.

TIMELAPSE OF THE FUTURE: A Journey to the End of Time (4K)
Support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/melodysheep | Get the soundtrack: https://bit.ly/2HKl9fi | How's it all gonna end? This experience takes us on a journey to the end of time, trillions of years into the future, to discover what the fate of our planet and our universe may ultimately be.
We start in 2019 and travel exponentially through time, witnessing the future of Earth, the death of the sun, the end of all stars, proton decay, zombie galaxies, possible future civilizations, exploding black holes, the effects of dark energy, alternate universes, the final fate of the cosmos - to name a few.
This is a picture of the future as painted by modern science - a picture that will surely evolve over time as we dig for more clues to how our story will unfold. Much of the science is very recent - and new puzzle pieces are still waiting to be found.
To me, this overhead view of time gives a profound perspective - that we are living inside the hot flash of the Big Bang, the perfect moment to soak in the sights and sounds of a universe in its glory days, before it all fades away. Although the end will eventually come, we have a practical infinity of time to play with if we play our cards right. The future may look bleak, but we have enormous potential as a species.
Featuring the voices of David Attenborough, Craig Childs, Brian Cox, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michelle Thaller, Lawrence Krauss, Michio Kaku, Mike Rowe, Phil Plait, Janna Levin, Stephen Hawking, Sean Carroll, Alex Filippenko, and Martin Rees.
