Hey guys, what is going on? Chris Sajnog here, retired Navy SEAL and founder of the SEAL Training System, and in this video, I'm going to teach you the ABCs of surviving a violent encounter. Now let's go ahead and get started. Alright, so let's talk about the ABCs of surviving a violent encounter. And I'll tell you first off; it involves much more than just protecting yourself from that violent encounter because the best thing you can possibly do is prevent that violent encounter from ever even happening. And that's what I want to talk about right here. Alright, so what are the ABCs? Well, the ABCs stand for Awareness, Building your defenses, and Calming the threat. So first up, let's talk about Awareness. Awareness, I'm sure you know, being aware, situational awareness is one of the best things that you can do, one of the best skills you can have to be able to prevent a violent encounter from happening. So how do you build awareness? Well, the number one way that I know how to build your situational awareness and being more aware is to meditate, and what meditation does is it teaches your brain to clear out all the clutter and it's not clearing your brain like you have no thoughts, but what it teaches you to do is clear out the clutter. So thoughts that aren't really important at that moment in time and teaches you to think about what you need to think about or what you need to focus on during a violent encounter. So when you're meditating, say you're thinking about your breath and you're just focusing on your breath. You're going to have thoughts that come into your mind like, oh, what do I need to do right now? Or, I'm wasting my time and my meditating, right? Those are all fine. Everybody has thoughts when they meditate, but what meditation does is it teaches you to acknowledge those thoughts and go, yeah, I noticed that thought and but I'm going to choose to focus on my breath. So then when it comes to a violent encounter, awareness, your ability to be aware is so much more enhanced. Now obviously there's going to be lots of other things going on around you, but because you've trained your mind so well through meditation, you are aware of that one thing, that one specific element that is most important for you to focus on right then and there to protect yourself and your family, so that is the best way to train your awareness. Another great way that I started doing recently is trail running, so just getting out on a trail, getting off the treadmill, getting out where there are trees and there are other people, and things are going by you, and just by looking straight ahead, you don't even have to try. Your mind is going to start picking up on things that you don't see. When you're on a treadmill, and you're watching the little screen, you're watching reruns of whatever your favorite show is on there, and you're, you're so un-situationally-aware, it's crazy. So just get outside and move. Go for a run, and you will improve your situational awareness just by that alone. All right, next up, the B is to Build your defenses. So these could be physical defenses. So putting an alarm on your house, putting lights up around your house, maybe digging a moat and putting that around your house, whatever it is, building up your physical defense, building up yourself, right? You are the weapon.

Hey guys, what is going on? Chris Sajnog here, retired Navy SEAL and founder of the SEAL Training System, and in this video, I want to teach you the three F's of personal protection. Now let's go ahead and get started. All right, so a lot of times when we find ourselves in a stressful situation, especially a violent encounter of some sort, we may be dropping a bunch of f-bombs in hopes that maybe saying a bunch of offensive f-words is somehow magically going to help protect us or our families. But in reality, there are three better, more useful f-words that I'm going to teach you that can help you protect yourself or your family in any violent situation. And they are to Flow, to Fight and to Follow up. So first up is to Flow. Now, Flowing means that you're flowing like water through any situation. You're just as smooth as can be. It means that you are in control of the situation and a lot of times people have heard about fight or flight, and or freeze. So those tend to be the three reactions to any stressful situation that people are taught. But what I like to teach is the fourth F, and that is to Flow. So what happens in a stressful situation, you're going to fight if you understand the situation and you believe you can win that situation, so you're attacked by somebody and because of your training, you go, you know what? I'm bigger than this guy; I can take him. I'm going to fight him for whatever reason. That is your fight response. The next one is to take Flight or to run away. And you're going to do that when you understand the situation, but you think you can't win that situation. So you know what's going on. You're like, okay, this dude is like six foot seven, 300 pounds and it's all muscle and he's got a knife and, I'm going to run away. And then the other one is the deer in the headlights and that is to Freeze. So what happens here is you have no idea what the situation. It'd be like, for me, I've never practiced what I would do if an alien spaceship came in like landed right next to me and was like, Hey, what's going on? Like I would freak out. I'd be frozen. No idea. So that's deer in the headlights. That is freezing. So you've got Fight, Flight and Freeze. But there is a fourth reaction, and that is to Flow. So that's what I want you to do. How do you Flow through a situation? You practice! If you practice enough and you understand situational awareness, and you understand other people and how to control yourself and other people in all kinds of situations, you're going to be able to Flow through that situation. The second F is to Fight. And when it comes time to fight, I want you to fight your ass off! That's right. I want you to go for it. You have to go all out when you've decided it is time to fight; it is time to fight, it's not time to go, "Hey, put your dukes up. I'm going to fight you." Why would you tell somebody that you're going to fight them when you decide it's time to fight - and you need to do everything you can to prevail because you've already done everything you could do to Plan and, to Prevent this from ever happening. You've done your due diligence. But now this situation, this person has pushed you to the point where this is your last option, and it should be your last option, right? I want you to not have to fight. It's not like a pacifist type thing. It's just a smart thing. Unless you're in the UFC and fighting is your job, you should always be looking for ways to not fight but being prepared for when you do. And then our third F is to Follow up. So like everything I do, I am about teaching and learning and learning from our past mistakes, learning from things we do well; also in how can we get better. So looking in every situation, even if it's a situation that you detect that it's a potentially a threat situation, but it ends up not being, put that into your system here and turn it around a bit and go, why did I think that was going to be a violent encounter? And it ended up not being because every time you go back, whether, whether it ends up being something or not being something you are continuing to learn how you have prevented that violent encounter in the past. How could you have prepared yourself or your family better for that violent encounter? So just remember to always follow up and learn from what you've done in the past. So that is it. Remember those three F-words for personal protection; Flow through every situation that you're in. Heck, you should be flowing through your entire life! Next up is to Fight. Fight your ass off when it comes time to fight. And then finally Follow up. Learn from your mistakes, learn from your experiences. Whatever you do, always be getting better and improving yourself. That's not right. There are tons of other tools that are going to make it a lot easier to learn, a lot faster to learn, and a lot cheaper to learn. And I'm going to give you five of my favorite ones here in this video. Grip Strength Tools: Number five on the list is grip strength tools. Now there are all kinds of ways that you can improve your grip strength, and you don't even need to go out and buy anything. You can just grab something heavy and hold onto it and walk around, but there are great tools out there to improve your grip strength. And some of those are the captains of crush grippers, you can get a gyroball. Anything that is going to improve your grip strength is definitely going to improve your shooting, especially if you need help in that area. If you need to improve your grip strength, it is going to help you immensely, especially with a pistol shooting.

Hey guys, what's going on? In this quick tip, I just want to show you very quickly where you should place your holster. It's a question I get all the time and obviously with so many different holsters and types of firearms and different body designs and all that, different places to carry. There are literally hundreds or thousands of combinations, but this is the one tip that you need to be able to figure out where you need to put your holster. Now, first off, obviously you're going to figure out where you're going to carry it so inside the waistband or an appendix carry. Is it outside, or under the arm, wherever it is, figure out where that is. Then what I want you to do is get a good solid grip on your firearm and I do that by getting into my shooting position and now when I have my good grip, now I can go back with this perfect grip because once I grip my firearm, that's all I get. I don't get to keep trying to regrip. The gun is I'm coming out trying to shoot. Right? I want to have a good grip from the start. So start with a good grip. Now say, for instance, I'm going to put it on outside my waistband here on my side. What's a normal position for my hand to be in here? So like what can I get to? Maybe I can't get back because of my shoulders a little tight. I can't get this far back. Okay. So I know it needs to be here. Some people ask me should I have a cant, should it be canted out? Should it be canted back or forward? These are all things you can only figure out with you and your gun in your perfect grip. I don't like cants at all. A lot of people will count it out usually because you have love handles or a little bit more than love handles. So I'd say work on that first, but figure out where that is. If it's inside here, where is it comfortable in here? Where can you get a good grip from and that's where it's going to be. So that is your tip for how to find the right place to put your holster. And why I think this is so important is because the way shooting is taught, for the most part, people teach you to hold your breath. In fact, when I was running the sniper course, that's what I taught. But you know, in that case, there are going to be times, you don't want to hold your breath, but you are going to want to shoot during what's called your natural respiratory pause. So you breathe in, you breathe out, and during that natural pause when you want to break your shot, and that's when you're taking long shots, like you're taking sniper, but if you're not doing that what you need to do, what you want to do is you want to continue to breathe naturally and people will argue this. I hear it all the time. I see the comments on Youtube and yes I'm talking to you. If you're one of those people that left those comments then this quick tip is for you, but what you want to do is keep breathing and the reason you hear this bad advice is because people breathe the wrong way. We are naturally supposed to breathe in and out through our noses and our bellies are supposed to rise and fall as we breathe. But if you're to take a deep breath in right now, go ahead and do it with me. Most of you, when you do that (okay, you can let it out), what you tend to do is you raise up your shoulders and your chest goes out, so when you're shooting, that is going to affect your shooting platform. Whereas if you're just doing belly breathing like you should do, it's much healthier for you. Get much more oxygen and you'll be able to shoot better. Your belly goes in and out, and unless you're laying down on your belly, it's not going to affect you. So for instance, when you're shooting with your pistol, you're breathing in and your shoulders, and these are all accessory muscles there moving up and down, okay? So you don't want to do that. You want to belly breathe and that is going to make you shoot better. It's not only is it the proper way to breathe, but it's going to help you shoot better. So that is your quick tip of the day.
