Germany Players' Protest Against FIFA Ahead of 1-2 Defeat by Japan
The German players covered their mouths during their pre-kick-off team photo to protest against FIFA's decision of banning teams from wearing the one love captain armband during matches in the World Cup in Qatar. After FIFA threatened to take action against any team wearing the armband with a yellow card punishment before kick-off to the captain. Immediately after the gesture, Germany released a statement to justify the team's action. "It wasn’t about making a political statement – human rights are non-negotiable. That should be taken for granted, but it still isn’t the case. That’s why this message is so important to us. Denying us the armband is the same as denying us a voice. We stand by our position," red part of the German statement. FIFA is yet to respond to the gesture and it will be interesting to see the action the World Football governing body takes against the Germans.

Germany World Cup Arrival in Qatar, Team Hotel
The German World Cup team has arrived in Doha, Qatar. Less than 24 hours after defeating Oman 1-nil in their final World Cup warm-up match in Muscat, the Germans have touched down in the host country, 6 days before their Group E opening match against Japan. The 2014 champions received a traditional Qatari welcome as they arrived at their team hotel around Midday on Thursday. The Die Mannschaft will reside at the Zulal Wellness Resort, a newly-built 5-star hotel that was opened in March of this year. The 28-hectare resort is located on the north coast of Qatar, 1-hour drive from Doha city center, overlooking the Arabian Gulf. Although the German team will enjoy the grandeur of accommodation and amenities at their disposal at the high-end resort, they will have to deal with the travel fatigue of having to commute 10 km to and from the Al Shamal Sports Stadium, which is their training venue. The residence's luxury 'Zulal Serenity' should however offer the German team some relaxation every evening after their tiresome trip and training.
