Walt Garrison A Real All American Cowboy Thank You For The Memories #rodeo #smalltownamerica
Walter Benton Garrison (July 23, 1944 – October 11, 2023) was an American professional football player who was a fullback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
In 1972, Garrison was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated for its pro football preview issue; the photo was from Super Bowl VI in January.[14] During the season, he suffered a 16-stitch cut in one of his fingers while doing his favorite hobby (whittling). He was named to the Pro Bowl, after registering 784 yards and 7 touchdowns, even though he was a part of a three-headed rushing attack. He played in the Pro Bowl a few days after suffering a gash in his face while steer wrestling.
In 1973, he suffered pinched nerves in his neck during training camp and had headaches so severe that he couldn't sleep. Robert Newhouse was promoted as the starting fullback, performing well enough that it was the sixth game of the season before Garrison could get his starting position back. He still had 105 carries for 440 yards (second on the team) and was third in receiving with 26 receptions. He missed the season finale with a cracked collarbone, but was back in the lineup the next week in the playoffs.
A "real" cowboy, he spent time on the professional rodeo circuit during the football off-seasons. His signing bonus with the Cowboys in 1966 included a horse trailer. In June 1975, Garrison made an appearance at the College National Rodeo Finals in Bozeman, Montana; a knee injury he sustained in an exhibition steer wrestling accident ended his pro football career.[15] He retired in August 1975, and was replaced in the starting lineup with Newhouse.[16]
Garrison played in the NFL for nine seasons (missing only 7 games), all of them with the Cowboys. He finished his career with 3,886 yards rushing and 1,794 yards receiving. Garrison retired as the third leading rusher and fourth-leading receiver in team history.

Unforgettable Lessons from Bull Riding World Champs Gary Laffew and Scott Mendes from WCMB 2023
Gary Leffew is a former World Champion Bull Rider ~ PRCA Hall of Fame Inductee ~ 8 time NFR qualifier~ NFR average winner and past Bull Riding Director of the PRCA.
Through his unique, progressive and holistic training techniques... Gary's School has produced more PRCA, PBR, Canadian, NHSRA Champions and Finals qualifiers than any other bull riding school in the Nation. There isn't another of it's kind!
" After being in a slump for six months, a friend told me about a book by Maxwell Maltz, titled: Psyco-cybernetics. It changed my life! This book started my journey into the mental side of riding bulls and taught me (and a lot of other negative bull riders) that riding is really a mental game.

Scott Mendes- Being a Professional Bull Rider, success is usually determined by what belt buckle holds up your Wranglers. Well, somehow I always knew that there was more to life than that. You see, when I was just a little bitty boy, my grandmother used to sit me at the foot of her bed and read the Word of God to me. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and she had such an exceptional way of making the events of the Bible into stories that I could understand. The most amazing of all of her stories were the ones about the life of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and all of the miraculous things that He did for the whole world, and more specifically for me.
When I learned of how Jesus lived His life when He was here on Earth, and of His gruesome crucifixion on the cross, it intrigued me how one man could take all of the world’s sin upon Himself, and die a physical death for people who continuously betrayed Him, when at any moment, He could have asked His Heavenly Father to handle the entire situation. That, to me, was the ultimate act of love. My grandmother then told me that Jesus would come into my heart and help me through all of life’s problems while, at the same time, protect me from all evil! All I had to do was ask! Without knowing that Jesus lived in my heart, I’m not sure where I would be today. As I look back over my life, there have been many obstacles I’ve had to overcome. I do know that I wouldn’t have ever had the strength to do it without Jesus in my life.

How Many Bulls Does It Take World Championship Miniature Bull Riding World Finals WCMB : Mesquite,
Miniature bull riding is a rodeo sport that involves a youth rider getting on a miniature bull and attempting to stay mounted while the animal attempts to buck off the rider. It is bull riding on a smaller scale, as both the bull and the rider are smaller than in professional rodeo. All competitors are under age 18.
Adult bull riding has been called "the most dangerous eight seconds in sports": it requires riders to stay atop a bucking bull for eight seconds with only the use of a rope tied behind the bull's forelegs. Touching the bull or himself with his free hand, or getting bucked off prior to the eight-second mark, results in a no-score ride. Two judges score the rider based on his ability up to 25 points each for up to a total of 50 points. Another two judges score the bull on his bucking performance for up to 25 points each for a total of up to 50 points.
Miniature bull riding has been called the "logical step" between steer riding and junior bull riding for young athletes. Although the bulls are smaller than is typical for bull riding, they are still half a ton in weight, which can result in injuries to riders such as broken bones. However, the parents and riders involved in the sport accept the risks.
