DJI Avata Drone Crashes Into a Tree Limb But OriginaldoBo's Ribbed Riders Protected It
Actually, the drone crashed into the overhanging tree limb due to pilot error and ended up in turtle mode, from which it easily recovered. But there was zero damage to the drone's ducts, partially due to the extra protection provided by @OriginaldoBo Ribbed Riders being installed. This video is obviously a bit of a parody, while still showing that his products really do work to protect the drone. This video is unsolicited and Ken didn't know we were making it. Heck, until an hour ago, we didn't know we would be making it either!

Universal City TX 2022 51st Veterans Day Parade - ROTC Entries
This short video features the 2 ROTC units that were represented in the 2022 Veterans Day Parade held November 5, 2022, in Universal City, Texas.
We received authorization from Randolph AFB to fly our drone inside their Zero AGL (Above Ground Level) restricted flight area for today's Veterans Day Parade in Universal City (TX) along Pat Booker Road. The parade was about 90 minutes long, but we've cut out the slower / dead times when the parade was sitting still on the road. We also used the Speed Ramping technique to shorten the overall length of this video, without sacrificing the quality of the content.
This video was not commissioned by the Universal City or the Greater Randolph Area Veterans Council (GRAVC) who sponsors this annual parade. For more information about the parade, please visit the city's website at https://universalcitytexas.com/586/Veterans-Parade

SA 110 / 911 Memorial Climb Opening Ceremonies Tower of The Americas - 10th Anniversary Full Version
This is part of a series of videos that we are creating from the San Antonio 110 Organization's 10th Annual 911 Memorial Climb event. The event was organized by the San Antonio 110 organization. #sa110 #sa1102022 You can find out more about the San Antonio 110 organization at https://www.facebook.com/sanantonio110
This video covers the opening ceremonies and speeches just after sunrise, as the participants gather together at the base of the Tower of Americas in downtown San Antonio, then shows the release of the doves and the start of the climb by the firefighters, police and other participants. The Tower is nearly 750ft tall and the participants climbed the stairs, over 600ft to the Observation Deck level, where they exited the stairwell and began to descend via the 2nd stairwell.
Towards the end of the event, there were multiple firefighters and other participants who collapsed from the 90+ degree heat inside the stairwell and had to be helped to complete the descent. There was a line of volunteers willing to return backup the stairs to help their fellow participants, so many that they had to turn some away. Those volunteers took the elevators to the top, then descended until they found the stranded people.
Description of the event from San Antonio's 110 Facebook event page:
"San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb is a very specific type of 9/11 memorial. There is a reason it is not a 5k, a bike ride, or any other type of "sporting" event. There is a reason it is specifically a climb: to pay tribute to the climb that our 343 fallen firefighter brothers made, and lost their lives in the course of, on September 11th, 2001. That is why we climb, in honor of their sacrifice. In addition we also incorporate tribute to other tragic first responder casualties of 9/11 including the 70 Law Enforcement Officers and 9 EMS personnel who perished at ground zero as well. We highly encourage all types of tributes at our event and for everyone to pay tribute as they feel moved and best fit to. However the sole mission of "110 climbs", created all across the country, is for our brotherhood to honor and remember the lost lives of our 343 firefighters. #SA110 is special in that we also open it to the public as well for friends and family to come and pay respect to the losses of 9/11 while still keeping true to the 110 purpose for our brotherhood.
343 tags will be carried for each of our fallen firefighter brothers up the stairs of the Tower Of The Americas. There will also be 70 tags for the fallen Law Enforcement Officers and 9 for EMS personnel. We will climb these stairs twice to reach (and actually exceed) the 110 floors of the World Trade Center to pay tribute to each. We will complete these climbs for them and their accountability tag will be placed on an accountability board when finished. There are many other symbolic moments and events represented in this event as well to pay respect and honor the lost lives of our brothers of 9/11."
Yellow Rose Drones was happy to be a part of this ceremonial climb for the second year in a row and looks forward to being back again in 2023. Our thanks to Jeff Dillon for acting as our volunteer observer and additional videographer during the event.

Avata Drone Fly Thru at Great Northwest CIA Lodge Rental Hall
We rented the Lodge at the Great Northwest Community Improvement Association for my wife's Celebration of Life event in October. She passed away September 2, 2022, from an untreated medical condition that shouldn't have been life threatening, but by the time we realized what was happening, it was too late.
Before the event got too crowded, I powered up the DJI Avata drone, put on the goggles and did a fly-thru of their main rental hall and their swimming pool area. This wasn't a scripted video, just doing it because we could.
The tall guy in the kitchen that I "played tag" with, was my son, David. The guy sitting on the bench seat by the window laughing at my antics, is my other son, John.

5th Annual Dam Fine Car Show 2022 - A Full Length & Up Close Tour by Golf Cart
This was the 5th Annual Dam Fine Car Show & Sunday Drive event, sponsored by the Dam Community Alliance of Canyon Lake. In this video, we'll take you across the dam to the car show, drive you around the car show in a golf cart (Courtesy of the Hill Country REACT Team) and finally, show the show cars departing as they head across the dam following the conclusion of the event.
The general public paid $10 a vehicle to drive across the dam and $5/person to enter the show area. Entries into the car show paid $15 in advance, or $20 on the day of the event. Proceeds from this event are used to fund future improvements to the Canyon Lake Dam access, primarily ADA compliance features.
We used multiple video sources for this video, ranging from the GoPro Hero 10 camera, to the DJI Avata FPV drone (coastal shots), and the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone (aerial view of departing show cars), in an effort to make this video more entertaining for the viewer.

Chasing a Canyon Lake Fire/EMS Firetruck & Ambulances with a DJI Avata Drone at - Dam Fine Car Show
We were invited to fly our drones for the Annual Dam Fine Car Show at Canyon Lake TX on Sunday. We flew a variety of drones & used our GoPro camera for additional closeup footage. This video captured the time when Canyon Lake Fire/EMS units were changing shifts at the car show. We "chase" the 2 units departing and follow the new ambulance that's arriving. But when the orange REACT golf cart shows up, we naturally started to follow it instead.
Members of the Hill Country REACT Team were onsite to provide radio coordination for the car show by setting up their commercial UHF repeater, loaning out a dozen HT radios to key volunteers, and driving their 26 year old gas powered golf cart, affectionately named "Gassie" by their members. This golf cart is reaching the end of life quickly and they need a new(er) one to use for these public service events. REACT is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization with all volunteers, no paid employees. If you can help them get a newer golf cart, they are looking for a 4 or 6 passenger cart with off-road tires and suspension. Contact them via email at info@HillCountryREACT.org to offer donations or help to get a new cart.
The DJI Avata FPV drone was used to capture this video footage.

Flying the DJI Avata at Sunset w Motion Controller - Central Texas Drone Meet-Up on October 15 2022
Just some friends from the Central Texas Drone Meet-Up Facebook Group out having fun flying our drones. We had some guests today, a couple and their grandson who were interested in learning more about drones, so we were putting on a show. Kai with @Lone Star UAV hooked up a tablet to his goggles so that they could "ride along" with him as he flew one of his many FPV style drones. (FPV - is where you navigate using goggles, so you get the First Person View, because you are looking out the camera of the drone live while it's flying.
This short video is from our DJI Avata drone, which is also an FPV drone flown with goggles. But instead of using the normal remote controller with the 2 toggle sticks, we used DJI's Motion Controller. It was surprisingly easy to pick up on, but we prefer the greater control of using the standard controller.
Central Texas Drone Meet-up normally meets up on the 3rd weekend of the month, depending upon the weather and soccer / football season.

Can the DJI Avata Fly Safely Inside a Nightclub? Let's Find Out! #avata #nightclub
It's nice to have friends who own a nightclub, so last night we took our DJI Avata drone over to his nightclub on a night that it wasn't open to the public. We wanted to find out if the drone could be safely flown inside the nightclub and over the dance floor with the strobe lights & fog machine turned on. It was fairly easy to fly with the daytime lights turned on because it was nice and bright, but with it being dark and with the lights strobing? That's a whole other challenge.
First of all, you won't get many GPS satellites locked while inside a building, if any. We started out with 6-8 locked satellites, but quickly lost even those as we flew further away from the outside wall. It was almost like flying in purely manual mode, but with some stabilization help still being there. The drone tended to drift and move in directions that we didn't want it to, or change altitude if we weren't vigilant at all times.
We did successfully fly around the nightclub, as you will see in the video, but the question remains, would it be safe to fly when there were people inside the area? It's not against FAA regulations to fly over people inside a building, but is it against common sense?
The jury is still out on this experiment. Perhaps we'll try again on a night when it hasn't (yet) gotten crowded and everybody inside has been alerted / warned on how to behave properly if the drone is nearby.

Cambridge Auto Center San Antonio Texas - Drone Fly Thru #carrepairs
While we were waiting to have our vehicle looked on a lazy Saturday morning, we got bored. We've been coming to this shop for years and gotten to know the mechanics and staff pretty well. The owner was here, so I offered to fly through the shop just for fun.
The owner liked it well enough, that he's asked us to come back to do one for real. FYI, they didn't charge for today's work.
Update: This version of the video was re-edited on our computer using out full editing suite of software, rather than a quickie job on our cellphone on-site at the shop. We think you will enjoy this more professional version better.

Flying the DJI Avata Drone. Practicing in an Obstacle Course & Branching Out With A New Green Screen
This is just a flying for fun video where I checked out the picnic / greenbelt area behind my HOA's buildings. Lots of trees and other obstacles to practice flying around or thru. Found some deer who decided they didn't like my noisy drone and bolted away, further into the greenbelt area when they detected it approaching.
This was my first attempt to fly a bit more aggressively in an area with obstacles abound. I did bump into a few tree limbs, but the Ribbed Rider bumper guards from @OriginaldoBo worked as designed. The Avata drone never actually crashed to the ground after any of these incidents. Towards the end, a green leaf decided to hitch a ride and covered up the camera so that I couldn't see thru it any longer. I just took the goggles off, put my glasses back on, and visually guided the drone back to me. Those neon yellow bumper guards really made it easy to spot this (otherwise) very dark colored drone.
I will be returning to this area for more practice, but won't bother to upload the footage each time. I did experiment with the stabilization modes in this flight however. This flight was done with "horizon leveling" turned on. I still saw all the twists and turns live in the goggles, but the final video was nice and level. If I was flying in Manual mode, instead of Sport or Normal modes, I wouldn't want that stabilization to be turned on.

Flying the DJI Avata Drone Thru a Playground & Around an Unexpected Water Geyser? 2nd Time Flying
Earlier today, while helping out with a bicycle ride event, somebody accidentally ran over an unprotected sprinkler head & set off this huge geyser of water into the air. It started flooding the area, causing volunteers to need to move the covered tent, chairs and vehicles that were getting wet. The wind shifted while I was flying my drone, causing me to stand in a soft mist of rain. Electronics and rain is not a good combination.
So I jumped in my rental van and relocated while the Drone patiently waited. and then I finished flying through the playground area and only bumped one of the bars once.
We made a joke about The Beverly Hillbillies and the Clampetts drilling for oil, but only getting water.
Eventually the maintenance people figured out how to turn the water off in the sprinkler system, without also shutting down water to the entire facility.
This short clip was edited on my Android phone using Filmora Go software. I am still learning how to use this new software for me, and maybe I'll figure out how to add music one day as well. I normally use the desktop version of this software, so the Android version is a little bit different.

DJI Avata FPV Drone - Low Light Nighttime Flight Test #avata #djiavata #nighttime
We hadn't seen anyone testing the Avata drone in low light conditions, so last night we had the opportunity to fly it behind a hospital at their loading dock after making a delivery. The time was about 12:30am and the security guard was bored and curious enough to stop and watch me fly. It's only a minute or so in length, nothing fancy, just zooming around in the empty loading dock area on the back side of the hospital. There were parking lot lights and other illumination to light up the area, but it was rather dim to normal eyesight.
We were pretty happy with how well the camera functioned in such poor lighting conditions.
