Magna the Great Dane stealth huntress!
Magna and I had been out on a walk in Richmond where we happened along a single rabbit that caught her eye. The rabbit did not see us and was just foraging on the grass so Magna was very still and even crept up very softly so as not to create sounds to give us away. She got closer, slowly closer, and when she felt like she was in adequate range, she hit a burst of speed but failed to take into account that she had to drag my 92 kilos with her so she did not get the sudden speed she need and the bunny found us out. I just did not want to let go of the leash because we were beside a road that traffic goes on frequently and if the traffic came and the rabbit ran onto the road and traffic came, my dear dog would have run out onto the road and that could get ugly very fast so an ounce of prevention.

My mighty Magna meets some funny looking "dogs".
While out on a walk, Magna and I came across a small group of funny looking "dogs". The truth is they seemed to be horny dogs, or at least horned dogs, but in truth they were a different species but it shows that they can be left to their own devices to engage in civil introductions and it was sweet to watch them interact with their subtle physiology based communications. The intelligence they show is remarkable.

Magna stretches her long legs!
Magna had just taken a nap after having a snack and we went to a park so she could stretch her long lovely legs. Fortunately we had the place all to ourselves because she does not always take kindly to certain kinds of visitors like coyotes, raccoons and skunks because she goes into a bit of a fit and wants to kill them for reasons she has yet to share with me.

Sweet Great Dane accompanies me to her favorite hotel for a stay together after she passed away.
When my extremely exceptional Great Dane transitioned from her physical body last December 10th, I knew that nobody could have come even remotely close to loving me as much as she did. Our bond is so very strong, that even death could not keep us apart. She knew what I was thinking back in her physical body, and now that she has transitioned into her spiritual body, she is all-knowing and can go from one place to another just by thinking it and she can do so in a nano-second.
This is something I was curious about because I was able to see spiritual energy in the form of orbs back at home where she and I slept together. I needed a sign that it was her and that was the sign, because she was in the room we slept in but nowhere else in the house. I wanted to make it even more specific, so I bought some of her very favorite shortbread cookies from a bakery we used to frequent and I placed them in one of her dog food dishes.
I put the dog food dish in a different room, and for once, I saw orbs in that room around the dish! That prompted me to try to test out whether or not she would show herself in her very favorite hotel. I knew it is her favorite hotel because we have been to other hotels, but this one is the only hotel where upon arriving, she would push the top of her head into my upper back as if to say: "Hurry up, let's go, we cannot waste a moment!"
I would carry our bags and her leash would be looped around my wrist and she would make me run faster than I was even capable of running from the parking lot into the lobby where she would frisk the front desk staff for treats!
I checked in, got comfortable, took a bath and relaxed and later on ordered room service for dinner. I ate and did not even finish before I really wanted to try to see if there was any signs of my Great Dane joining me.
I turned on the video camera in my cell phone, and it seems I was not alone. My guess is she knew I was going to this hotel and she was thinking that it was not going to be without her!
The unprecedented depth and level of love and loyalty from a Great Dane cannot even be stopped by death, she will always find a way to come to me, and I am eternally grateful for that incredible love and devotion and in another sense, I am very humbled by it as well. I cannot thank her enough for the amazing examples of love and loyalty that she has taught me with, and I owe her more than I could ever hope to repay her.... but that will not stop me from trying.

Even death cannot conquer the eternal and everlasting love of a beautiful Great Dane who loves you.
I have been struggling to come to terms with the tragic demise of my best friend. She was that and so much more to me. She was my activity partner, training partner, protector and teacher.
She taught me more about gushing unconditional love and unshakable, unwavering loyalty than any person has taught me in my entire life. She is my Great Dane, so wise, prudent, sensitive, yet enormously strong. Her heart, soul and essence was given to me freely the day I adopted her on Monday, August 14th, 2012. She would always demonstrate all this through her actions and never a word was spoken.
Like so many other Great Danes, she was taken by gastric dilation volvulus, also known as bloat. It is a horrific and enormously painful condition that takes far too many precious Great Danes. In fact when mine got it, based on what I had researched on the topic, I was not initially sure that was what was happening.
She was so very stoic and so strong. Many would pace, whimper, whine, froth at the mouth and my girl appeared only to be strangely trying to tell me something and appeared to be in some discomfort but did not appear to be in the enormous pain and dread that usually accompanies dogs with the misfortune of contracting this horrible condition.
She was always trying to take care of me even if she had things she needed although I did my very best to make sure her needs were met before mine. In some aspect, I suspect part of her taking care of me was her trying to not alarm me or cause me to worry about her. I certainly did not mind worrying about her because you worry about those you love because you care about them so very much.
I was attempting to process the transition of my beautiful dog only because I had no choice but to accept the unacceptable. I could not come to terms with it and felt as though I had been gutted. I lost interest in anything and everything else in my life and then I saw someone on Facebook who had lost a pet and I saw their video that they uploaded. The pet spirit is a lower frequency than a human spirit so though they can allegedly be creative, a lot of times, they apparently manifest in the form of orbs.
One night I was sleeping, and was jarred awake at around 4:30 AM from stomach acid. I went to the washroom and came back to bed. I remembered that woman and her post, and it made me think I should take a video of my surroundings.
You would never guess what I saw, or maybe you might, as some already have experience with this. I knew that if I just told people about it, there would be a lot of people questioning my mental stability, so I included the video proof of what I saw inside the bedroom where my Great Dane and I slept together. It did not occur anywhere else in the house, it only occurred where she and I slept together.
She and I traveled a lot together, so one night I decided to see if there was any such orb activity inside the van we spent the last 4 years in together, and sure enough, there was!
I look at this and some critics say there must be a logical reason for this happening. Perhaps it is only when we remain narrow minded that we fail to expand our consciousness and awareness. Perhaps it is true that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed. What would become of my beautiful dog's energy or essence or internal spark?
I know through experience that even though death is very powerful, even it cannot break the bonds of the almighty love of Great Dane. There is nothing like the love of a Great Dane and this proves that. I am humbled and honored to receive her love and loyalty and can only do my very best to model her and give her that same love and loyalty in return until the day I die.... and there-on-after. I owe her so very much and shall strive to pay her back and honor her.

Sweet Great Dane adorably takes a long tall drink of water!
While taking a long walk through Memorial Park, in Vancouver, my beautiful long tall Great Dane decided that she wanted to stop and take a drink of water. This park was one of her own stomping grounds, and she made a few friends at this place, and she has protected them from various wildlife.
She has taken it upon herself to protect her turf. One day there were three coyotes in her park and she took it upon herself to chase these intelligent wild creatures out of her park.
After chasing those three coyotes out of her park, my beautiful Great Dane and I walked the circumference of the park and when we were approximately 75% around we noticed a single coyote that was stalking something. Upon closer inspection, we noticed the thing she was stalking was a Lab Pitbull cross named Taz, who was a friend of my Great Dane.
Taz was having her human throw many balls so she would run after these balls and bring them back. Neither Taz nor her human were aware of the coyote stalking them, but my mighty Great Dane was aware of it.
My mighty Great Dane started to stalk the stalker, and she honed in on the coyote and slowly in stealth, increased her speed and the coyote looked back to see it was being stalked by my giant, precious baby girl!
The coyote abandoned the target of Taz and her human, and decided it was time to get out of dodge, or in this case, my Great Dane's park. Coyotes can run very fast, upwards of 43 miles per hour, and my Great Dane can run almost that fast and the presence of my mighty Great Dane was enough to deter that coyote from the hunt. My beautiful and mighty Great Dane has protected many dogs and small people from these coyotes and sometimes after patrolling her park, she likes to stop and take in everything and take a drink from the fountain that she is tall enough to drink from.

Sweet Great Dane drinks from fountain.
Life seems to be all about go, go, go, go and go. There are times when you need to stop with all that go, go, go, relax, take a look around, and even take a sip out of the water fountain in the park. This wisdom is garnered from the very beautiful Great Dane known as Magna.
In this video, Magna had taken a rest by standing on a giant cement block and partition next to a field in which she was previously running, chewing on her ball, doing a bit of stop drop and roll and even having a bathroom break.
Given that it was a relatively hot day, and she and I undertook some activities together, Miss Magna needed to cool down. She walked over to the water fountain which was stuck in the ON position and she took some drinks from it.
That beautiful Great Dane is wise beyond her years and I believe this behavior started at a very early age for her too. I brought her home at the young tender age of 10 weeks old and I saw she had made her way into the bath tub where I had set the shower water to run to get to a certain temperature. When I went back into the bathroom to check on this Great Dane puppy, I had to laugh out loud because of what she was doing. She sat inside the bath tub with the shower water cascading down in front of her with her mouth trying to eat or chew the water coming down out of the shower head in front of where she sat. It was hilarious to watch but clearly she always learns and we who see her always benefit from her learning experience. That is why when around the mighty Magna, I do my best to follow her example.

Sweet Great Dane likes getting her teeth brushed!
We are taught that we humans need to brush our teeth after every meal, and floss as well. That prompted a thought as to whether or not man's best friend should have to do the same thing. The two things humans and dogs have in common is that most of them have teeth and all of them eat, so it made me think we both should be brushing our teeth.
To be able to brush your dog's teeth means they have to be comfortable with you sticking things in their mouths and handling them in that area of their anatomy. In order to be able to do that, one must start very early in puppy-hood by handling them in as many ways as you can think of. This way if you handle your puppy in every imaginable way as a puppy, they will be accustomed to it as a young dog, adult dog, and eventually a senior dog.
This beautiful Great Dane loves to eat, and I have fed her the best of food and she has even been gracious enough to share some of my own food with me. Having said that, it means she will have to brush her teeth.
Given that it would be difficult for her to brush her own teeth, and that she is unable to do it by herself, it is up to her best friend and guardian to assist her with brushing her teeth. When you see her getting her teeth brushed, you can see that she clearly enjoys it very much.
This Great Dane loves getting her teeth brushed, and will eat more to get them brushed again, or simply try again to get her teeth brushed. That is okay with me because she is very much a close talker and with her fervor for getting her teeth brushed, that means she has very good breath and that is just fine with me.

Pretty Great Dane with strong prey drive devours lamb.
On a hot summer day, I took my gorgeous Great Dane to IKEA on Monday, June 20th, and as very pretty as she is, this Great Dane has a very strong prey drive. When she and I go to this IKEA there are often a great number of rabbits that inhabit the area. Since her puppy-hood, she has gone after rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes, and much to my disappointment, skunks!
The lamb in question was actually a birthday gift for her from another Great Dane mom in the United States. Thank you Vanessa and Jax. She has no idea how this birthday gift was treated, but we had entered the IKEA parkade on a summer evening where I had decided to grab some dinner.
This wonderful Great Dane was in the van for a while so it was only fair to give her the chance to relieve herself. It seems this mighty Great Dane had other plans than to relieve herself. She wanted to demonstrate her prey drive and killer instinct to show she is not to be messed with.
A Great Dane's neck is thickly muscled, but dogs are so very fast. You can see them shake prey and usually doing that will break the neck of the prey, so in this video you will get the chance to see her prey drive at work as she goes after her birthday gift lamb and shake it violently.
This lamb served as a very nice distraction so that the rabbits around the property are not in any danger of becoming the target of this gorgeous Great Dane who can be every bit as deadly and powerful as she is strikingly beautiful.
Do not be fooled by her stunning beauty because as amazingly pulchritudinous as she is, this Great Dane can also be very laid back to the point where she can burp or fart like a drunken sailor so as you can imagine, having such a strong prey drive is not a very big issue when managed correctly.

Demanding Great Dane in her favorite hotel
My sweet Magna has always been able to communicate even though we do not speak the same language. She always has a way of letting me know how she feels, what she likes, what she dislikes, what she wants and does not want. In this case we are lounging on a bed together and she wants me to engage with her and she wants in NOW!

Magnificent Great Dane does tricks for cookies in her favorite hotel
I would like to introduce you to my beautiful 6 year old Great Dane Magna; she is a Gemini, and enjoys running, playing fetch, long walks, playing tug-o-war, and is something of a fashionista because she can alter clothing. She is very sweet, fun-loving, playful and intelligent. She is so intelligent, in fact, that if you want her to do something and she does not want to, she will pretend to not understand.
You can see that she is obviously extremely beautiful, and she has a taste for luxury hotels, various fine foods and will usually indulge herself. She loves certain kinds of cookies, particularly organic peanut butter cookies and maple cookies, which is what she will be eating. She knows that even as the Queen of the Universe, she must earn them, so she will sometimes try to earn them when you ask her to do things such as shake a paw; touch the muzzle to something, high five, sit, or other little tricks to earn those tasty cookies. If I do not ask her to perform a trick, she will sometimes take the initiative to offer a trick to me, which at the very least shows a good work ethic.
In this particular case, we are at Magna's favorite hotel, the Hilton Hotel in Richmond. How do I know this is Magna's favorite hotel? Magna and I have been to other hotels, but this was the only hotel in which she has given me a strong indication that she wants us to be here. I would drive into the parking area and get our things, and she would be right beside me. When I turn to go out the door of our van, Magna would always use the top of her head to push into my upper back to hurry me along. When we got out of the van, she would make sure we did not walk, nor jog, nor run, but sprint at break-neck speed to the hotel lobby to make sure that we did not miss a moment! We could not miss a moment!!
Mind you I was the one who would always have to run with two or three bags flailing in the air at a rate of speed I could not normally run but I am at the end of her leash as she has me in tow. This is one very playful princess. She likes her snacks between meals and enjoys relaxing between playing or running around.
In this particular video, you will see my beautiful, mighty Magna showing the more refined side of herself as she takes the cookies and eats them like a real lady would! Her best gal pal, Stanzi, a Golden Lab would viciously snatch a treat out of your hand as if it would escape, but not my mighty Magna. She shows a very soft side of herself while spending quality time with you.
