Cobaea Scandens Vine
Also known as: The Cathedral Bells, Cup & Saucer Vine
This truly beautiful perennial vine is from Central & South America. It's fast growing to about 15'-20' in just one season. A profuse bloomer from Summer to Fall. Deep large bell-like blooms are often 2.5" across, and start out creamy green, then turn to a rosy-violet, and finally mature to a deep purple. The vine does have tendrils and cling well to rough surfaces.
Hardiness zones 9-11 in the winter, making it an annual elsewhere. But can be grown in a container, pruned back, and brought to protection during cold times.

Butea Monosperma Tree
Also known as: Flame Of The Forest, Parrot Tree
A riot of salmon/pink/orange colored flowers cover the entire crown of this medium sized tree, growing from 20-40 feet high. The trunk is usually crooked & twisted with irregular branches & rough, grey bark.
The tree is not all that appealing in Dec/Jan when it looses all its leaves, but from Jan-March it truly becomes a tree of flame. The leaves, which appear in April and May, are 10-18" wide. When fresh they are like soft suede; thick, velvety and a beautiful pale, bronze green. Old leaves are as firm and tough as leather, smooth above and hairy below. This silky down gives them a silvery appearance from a distance.
The curved parrot beak blooms contain much nectar which attracts frequent visits of many species of birds. A brilliant coloring matter can be obtained from this infusion of flowers which can be made into a dye. The leaves & seeds have many medicinal properties including help with intestinal worms, skin disorders, diabetes, sore throats, & many more.
This tree is frost sensitive, has a high drought tolerance, and a good salt tolerance. It can be grown in a container for a specimen plant.

Jacaranda Mimosifolia
Also known as: Blue Jacaranda, Fern Tree
A sub-tropical tree native to south-central South America that has been widely planted elsewhere because of its beautiful and long-lasting lavender-blue lightly fragrant flowers. The bell shaped blooms are up to 5 cm (2.0 in) long, and are grouped in 30 cm (12 in) panicles. They appear in spring and early summer, and last for up to two months. Flowering is reportedly best when planted in poor soil and following a winter with several nights in the upper 30's. They are followed by woody seed pods, about 5 cm (2.0 in) in diameter, which contain numerous flat, winged seeds. The tree grows to a height of 5 to 15 m (16 to 49 ft). Its bark is thin and grey-brown in color, smooth when the tree is young though it eventually becomes finely scaly. The twigs are slender and slightly zigzag; they are a light reddish-brown in color. Soft, delicate, fernlike, deciduous foliage gives this tree a very tropical appearance.
The light, dappled shade makes Jacaranda well-suited for cooling patios, but it probably should not be used near pools due to the abundant leaf and flower drop. The arching branch habit is ideal for creating a canopy over a street or boulevard, creating a spectacular sight when in full bloom. Heaviest-flowering when grown in full sun, small trees of Jacaranda can tolerate light shade and will grow quickly. They thrive in sandy, well-drained soils but should be watered during dry periods.
It has been cultivated in almost every part of the world where there is no risk of frost; established trees can however tolerate brief spells of temperatures down to around −7 °C (19 °F). In the USA where winter temperatures can dip to −12 °C (10 °F) for short several-hour periods, the mature tree survives with little or no visible damage. In the United States, it grows in parts of Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Florida.

Colvillea Racemosa Tree
Also known as: Colville's Glory Tree
We are very excited to offer the seeds to this rather hard to find BEAUTY from Madagascar! The bloom buds start out reddish and turn a bright rich orange color, forming in cone shape clusters that become 1-2 feet long with eye popping yellow stamens. They attract nectar-loving birds for pollination. In the Americas hummingbirds, honey bees, and butterflies will visit this tree. Soft fern like foliage is the icing on the cake!
This fast growing deciduous tree can reach 30-50' in height in due time, and will require full sun and deep, rich, acid to neutral soil with good drainage. Though not overly tolerant of drought, it copes with lower water levels by shedding foliage and can become fully deciduous in subtropical areas with cool, dry winters. New leaves will not emerge until weather is warmer and water is available again. USDA zone 10+ but said to tolerate temps into the high 20's to low 30's once established.
It would make a great tree nestled among other shorter dense trees or as a specimen all on its own, in a large public park or open landscape.

All parts of the tree are useful, its leaves, roots, fruits, seeds, bark, and flowers are used to prepare a variety of items like juice, chutney, jam, infusions, lotions, concentrates, herbal teas and other natural concoctions.
The fruit has been an herbal component of Thai traditional recipes believed to slow down the aging process but is also used to treat many ailments such as common cold and fever, as a diuretic, laxative, liver tonic, refrigerant, stomachic, restorative, alterative, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, hair tonic, to prevent peptic ulcer and dyspepsia, and as a digestive.
Popularly used in inks, shampoos and hair oils, the high tannin content of Indian gooseberry fruit serves as a mordant for fixing dyes in fabrics. Shampoos and hair oil are traditionally believed to nourish the hair and scalp and prevent premature grey hair.
It prefers a location that is less windy and more sunny. Well-drained, loamy to light heavy soil that is deep and rich in organic matter is required for growing the amla tree. Also known as: Giant Honey Bush
The lush growth, coupled with its large, exotic feather-like leaves, has made this South African shrub as fashionable as cannas, bananas and tree ferns for those looking to bring a touch of the jungle to their back gardens. This fast-growing evergreen open shrub can grow up to 12 feet tall or more and spread rapidly by sucker roots.
The one foot long bluish-green leaves have 10-15 serrated leaflets and when bruised have a strong salty peanut butter-like smell. Spikes of dark maroon-colored flowers that have a slight honey fragrance are displayed on stalks above the foliage from May to August followed by papery seed pods.
In the wild, the flowers are pollinated by birds attracted by the nectar in each of the little flowers. So much nectar is produced that it overflows on to the stems and splashes the foliage.
Although toxic when taken internally, it is used medicinally by the local people. They mostly use the leaves to make poultices and decoctions that are applied directly to wounds, bruises, backache and rheumatic joints.
It prefers a warm, sunny position with good drainage. Although quite tough and adaptable, it will flourish in deep, rich soil, especially if given plenty of water. Shelter from cold and wind, and protect from excessive winter moisture. Where not hardy, grow in a cold greenhouse and plant or stand outside in the summer. It will resprout annually from the base where temperatures do not fall below 23°F, and treat it as a perennial in warmer regions. Grows very easily and fairly fast from seeds or cuttings, and will make a show within a few months.

This climbing vine is originally native to East Africa and has been introduced to Australia, the Caribbean, southern USA and the Pacific region. Young stems are annual and herbaceous, but can become perennial and woody with time. It will flower from August to September. The species is dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required). and is pollinated by Insects. The plant is not self-fertile. It can become invasive in some places. The smooth and thin-skinned fruit turns red when fully ripe, and are only about 6cm long and 3.5cm wide.
Young leaves and long slender stem tops are cooked and eaten as a potherb or added to soups. Young and tender raw green fruits are used in salads or cooked and added to curries etc. Ripe and raw scarlet fruit are fleshy and sweet.
The juice of the roots and leaves is considered to be a useful treatment for diabetes. The juice of the stem is dripped into the eyes to treat cataracts. The leaves are used as a poultice in treating skin eruptions. The plant is laxative. It is used internally in the treatment of gonorrhoea. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the plant have shown hypoglycaemic principles. We cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always seek advice from a professional before using a plant medicinally.

Tacca Chantrieri
Also known as: The Black Bat Plant
One of the strangest and most amazing flowers in the plant kingdom. Native to Asian rainforests, where they grow in the loamy understory, often in deep shade. It comes from the Taccaceae family and consists of long-lived, short stemmed, rhizomatous, or tuberous herbaceous plants. Not only are the flowers and filiform bracts dark maroon, but so are the broad bracts that rise up above and behind the flowers. Each flower is about 5-8" across and has long tendrils (whiskers) that hang from it.
This variety can grow up to 2-3 feet and can successfully be grown indoors. It will thrive in bright light, but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Should do well in the same conditions that orchids and many epiphytic ferns grow in, with ample humidity, strong airflow, and moderate light and temperatures.
Hardiness zones: 9-11 Plant will take light frost down to 3°C (37°F). Give the plants very little water through the winter and it would be ideal to provide a temperature of 15-18°C (60-65°F). As with any tropical, give the occasional mist spray through the summer. For fertilizer use, Miracle Grow mixed 1/4 teaspoon to 1 gallon of water. Repot every 2-3 years and remove decaying rhizome growth.
Germination can take from 1-9 months so be patient. Don't toss out your seed beds thinking they won't germinate!

Gloriosa Carsonii
Also known as: Climbing Lily, Gloriosa Lily, Flame Lily, Glory Lily
A lovely variation of the Flame Lily which is native to South Africa and Asia. This one has vibrant yellow and dark purple flowers with frilled petals that adorn the numerous vigorous multi-branching stems in midsummer. A low climber that's easy to grow with patience. At maturity it can reach 5-6' tall and produce 12 or more flowers of exceptional beauty per plant. It grows fast in warm weather, blooms, then dies down to the ground. After a spell, another vine emerges from the tuberous root. Over time you will have plenty. Tendrils form at the tips of the leaves that are used for plant support and climbing. They make great cut flowers and are often used in wedding bouquets.
A truly spectacular conservatory plant, and also suitable for potting. It is a tuberous perennial and will not tolerate frost and freezing temperatures. Bulbs can easily be protected or dug up for the winter. Needs full sun and rich soil. Feed and water regularly in summer. It takes about one to three months for the seeds to germinate, but well worth it!
*All parts, especially tubers/bulbs contain Alkaloids (colchicine and others) and resins that if ingested is HIGHLY TOXIC, MAY BE FATAL IF EATEN! Don't panic, just don't eat them......

Codariocalyx Motorius
Also known as: Desmodium gyrans, Telegraph Dancing Plant, Semaphore
This here is a fascinating interesting shrub species in the legume family, Fabaceae. Originating from tropical and subtropical Asia. This perennial plant was well known by the previous name Desmodium gyrans.
The most intriguing thing about this plant is that it has rapid plant movement—just like the Sensitive Plant and the Venus flytrap. It moves when exposed to sound, particularly high pitch (high frequency) sound waves, however the plant’s leaflets and leaves move in a peculiar fashion. The leaves move dramatically enough, and quick enough, to be reasonably observed the human eye. Touching the plants will not cause the move, as Mimosa pudica (the Sensitive Plant) does. Changing the amount of light will not typically affect the elliptical movement of the leaflets, but during the night, the leaves do droop downwards.
This low-maintenance, problem-free member of the pea family is usually grown indoors, surviving outdoors only in the warmest climates USDA zone 10-11. It is a vigorous grower that reaches heights of 2 to 4 feet at maturity. It prefers full sun if in clay soil, part-shade to full shade in sandy or loam soil. Seeds can take up to 90 days to germinate, so patience is needed.
Apart from ornamental value, the plant also has medical value, due to its leaves, stems and roots containing small amounts of tryptamine alkaloids, especially DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. Caution is advised as it can be toxic.

Ipomoea tricolor
Also known as: Mexican Morning Glory, Grannyvines
Here is a easy to grow garden favorite. It is perfect to hide an unforgiving fence, climb a wall or scramble through arbors or trellises. Also often used as a ground cover or in hanging baskets. It is a herbaceous twining liana rapidly growing to 7–13 ft tall. The heart shaped leaves are spirally arranged, 1–3" long with a 1⁄2–2 1⁄2" long petiole. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, 2–4" in diameter, most commonly vibrant blue with a white to golden yellow center. It has an extended blooming period from summer to fall, attracts hummingbirds and butterflies, and is deer resistant.
It prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soils, in a sheltered, sunny position such as a south or west facing wall. It does not tolerate temperatures below 5 °C (41 °F), and so in temperate regions is usually grown as an annual. In warmer regions it is a self seeding perennial.
**Seeds can be toxic to humans and animals if ingested in large quantities. They contain hallucinogenic alkaloids that can cause gastrointestinal upset, agitation, tremors, disorientation, ataxia, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. The leaves and stems typically only cause vomiting.

Osmanthus Fragrans-Orange
Also known as: Sweet olive, tea olive, fragrant olive
This species here is native to Asia and is one of the 10 most famous flowers in China and Taiwan for its extremely powerful apricot fragrance.
It is an evergreen tree or shrub with a moderate growth rate, that will typically grow to 10-15’ tall in cultivation, but can reach 20-30’ tall in its native land. It can be grown as a container plant for decks, patios or outdoor sitting areas or year round as a houseplant. Either way, it may be trained as a small tree, shrub or espalier.
It is winter hardy to about 10 degrees F. and generally considered to be plantable in the ground in USDA Zones 8b-11.
The flowers are produced in small clusters in the late summer and autumn and will easily fill a large area with an intoxicating sweet smell. Through the years many different color cultivars have been produced like white, silver white, pale yellow, golden yellow, red, and orange.
In Chinese cuisine, the flowers may be infused with green or black tea leaves to create a scented tea. The flowers are also used to produce jams, sweet cakes, dumplings, soups, and even liquor. In some regions of North India, the flowers of sweet Osmanthus are used to protect clothes from insects.
In warm winter areas, it is easily grown in average, consistently moist, well-drained garden soils in full sun to part shade. Best with part afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Tolerates heavy clays. Drought tolerant once established. Clip off growing tips to maintain compact size and to encourage bushiness if desired.
This species belongs to the Olive Family (Oleaceae) along with numerous jasmines.
