Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Dropship Down". Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk Map review: Dropship Down is a marine-based skirmish map in which the player fends off enemy aliens. The setting of the map is as the name suggests; a dropship crash site in a canyon forest. This is actually one of the hardest skirmish maps even though the map layout is quite small. The smallness of the map makes the player cramped with little freedom to evade the npc aliens. The canyon is actually a perfect ambush site for aliens to attack the player. Thus, it is difficult to survive long. The only real negative is that the player will often be running circles while evading the aliens on this map. While this is true for most skirmish maps, due to the small size, the player will quickly notice that they are doing laps around the map. Regardless, the map is fun for a quick run.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Doom_E1M1". Map author: leatherface5883 Map review: This map is a port of Doom's episode 1, map 1. It has pretty much all the Doom textures and is a near perfect port in terms of level design. Many of the secrets or hidden areas of the Ultimate Doom version of the map are not here though. While the map looks cool, it does not play as fun as the original Doom. The pistol and shotgun feel tremendously under-powered compared to Doom's weaponry. This is not a fault of the map, but it's two different games. In Doom, it's a lot easier to shotgun enemies from long distances. In AvP2, you must be REALLY close to make shotgun blasts work. However, the enemies in this map are far more lethal with the shotgun than the player. You will have to use your pistol a lot more and run around in circles to evade enemies. For some unknown reason, the famous E1M1 music is not included in the map. I've added the song to my gameplay video because the map feels wrong without it. If you choose to play the map, note that there will be no music at all.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "DM_Outpost29". Map author: HHO Map review: This looks like a cool tower defense map based on the Starship Troopers movie, in which the player fends off aliens as a marine. However, in this custom map the aliens only target the player. The difficulty can be quite challenging as swarms of endless aliens will attack you and easily pin you down if you venture onto the field. The turrets can help a bit, but they can also take you down if you get in their line of fire. There is a multiplayer version of this map as well, which I would recommend over the singleplayer version as both versions play the same, but it is more enjoyable for the map to be played with teammates.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Dead End" aka "SKRIM_DEADEND". Map author: KrazeD Story: "You and your squad embark on your last and final mission, go out with a bang as it will be your last. How long can you survive with your team? Or without? NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, IT'S A DEAD END FOR YOU!!!" Map review: Dead End is a marine based skirmish map that is heavily influenced by the film Aliens. The map layout consists of long corridors, long ventilation shafts, plus a few rooms reminiscent from the film Aliens. The added Aliens music and Hudson sound effects further emphasize the film reference. KrazeD threw in some weapon and aliens skins as well to give the map a different feel. The difficulty is pretty good, as if you get cornered the aliens will rip you apart. The ai marines will aid you in stalling the enemy aliens, but they can get ripped apart pretty easily. It's a fun map until you realize you have no where else to go (hence the name dead end), then the map starts to get a bit dull.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "sp_cyb_snakebite". Map author: Cyburk. The Mission: "You are Dimitri and landed with your team on TC3 to steal some secret documents. Marines want to get you and the heat on TC3 and the screams of death and pain makes some other guys want to have some fun too. This volcanic planet is known for its violent history. Some people tell stories of monsters and ghosts making trophy of men. MUAHAHAHAHAHA." Map review: Snakebite is one of my personal favorite maps due to the large size and its unique desert look. Due to the large size of the map, the player can take approaches from different directions to get past the apc. Furthermore, depending on your approach, some other ai will spawn such as another predator and some aliens. The player can also attempt to save the corporate allies if fast enough, but I let their fight play out to see what happened. The difficulty of the map is on the high scale, with many traps and enemies that can quickly kill you via long range. I haven't played this map in a long time, so I died in a few sections. This is a highly recommended map.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Crash Land". Map author: Modmaker. Map review: Crash Land is one of the earliest custom maps made for AvP2 and it tries to do quite a bit. The map starts with an opening cutscene of a predator ship forcing the crash landing of the marine dropship. This is where the player takes control of a marine leading his squad. The goal of the map is to essentially reach the endpoint of the map. The map is broken three major sections. The first is where the marines encounter predators npcs, then a section of alien npcs, followed by the third section of mostly human npcs. The ai marines in the player's squad are supposed to accompany the player throughout the level. They are extremely buggy and often stand around doing nothing. Once they do start following the player, they will follow but always lag behind in the distance. One of the marines is a medic which can resupply the player with health upon activation. For whatever reason, the marines stop following the player once they make it to sentry gun/turret in the hive. From here on out, the player must complete the remainder of the map solo. I had played this map in the past multiple times and have been able to beat it easily without dieing. In my replaying of this map, I had forgotten what to do and mess up a few times. Towards the end of the map the player must grab a bomb to plant on the apc to proceed to the final door of the map. I attempted to grab the bomb early and it wouldn't work. It should be noted that the apc must spawn first, then the player can grab the bomb. This map can be a bit difficult at first. There are a few traps and some of the ai can instantly kill the player. While not perfect, it does a lot of neat things and is a classic map.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Combat Pit". Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk Map review: Combat Pit is a marine skirmish map built off Windebieste's predator map called Gladiator. As the marine, the player fights in the same gladiator arena against hordes of aliens. If the player tries to retreat back into any of the spawning chambers, the player will fall into one of many death traps. Thus, the player is encouraged to stay in the arena and continue fighting until their ultimate demise. To stay alive, the player must grab the shotgun and frequent the ammo boxes. There are a few other weapons to get a hold of, as they are hard to access and spawn new enemy types. Combat Pit is essentially the marine version of a shortened Gladiator map. However, I much preferred the original map as it let the player explore a bit in the underground tunnels. Nevertheless, its fun for quick skirmish.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Coffee Break". Map author: Emerald_Yautja Map review: This is an ok map. It's a bit confusing where to go at times. You actually have to go get a cup of coffee and then wait for the lights to go out to get to the action. The only real complaints are the ai humans being static and very cheap alien spawns.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Circle of Death: Char Grilled Edition". Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk and Tutonic Monkey Map review: Circle of Death: Char Grilled Edition is one of the more unique skirmish maps for AvP2. The map layout is a series of floating rock platforms that hover over lava in the center of an active volcano. One of the platforms has a control panel that can be activated to spawn various alien enemy types. The player takes control of the predator and can spawn the enemies as they please. There isn't much room to fight and weapon selection is limited. Thus, that is the real challenge for the player. Overall, its a fun and quick map to play.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Celtic-Ritesofpassages". Map author: Le Celticant Map review: This map is based on the AvP movie's pyramid sequence in which predators fought off aliens on top of the pyramid. Aside from a few small bugs, the only problem with this map is that you will do a lot of walking from point a to point b without hearing anything but your footsteps. The best part of the map is the actual predator vs aliens fight on top of the pyramid.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Cabin Fever". Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk Map review: Cabin Fever is a skirmish map in which the marine fights off a bunch of respawning aliens. The map is set in a cabin in the woods, similar to that of the Evil Dead films (there is a nod to this with an Army of Darkness poster inside the cabin). It's a very cramped cabin, with not much room to move in. Aliens can somehow open all the doors and let themselves in to attack the player. Both weapons and ammo are sparse as well. The marine must be constantly on the move and frequently run to ammo boxes to stay alive. There are somewhat secret areas to access as well. There is a smartgun on a cliff that can be accessed via the roof (I avoided this as it spawns a facehugger if you get the weapon), a locked toilet with risque photo of Lara Croft, and a shed. These areas also give access to an extra weapon or ammo. Unfortunately, there is an invisible runner npc that will sometimes spawn and try to get you. Overall, the map is fun for a quick 5-10 minutes of skirmish.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Breakdown" aka "lite_breakdown". Map author: Modmaker Map review: Breakdown is classic AvP2 map made by Modmaker. Most players will remember playing the map in multiplayer as the map also comes in deathmatch and co-op version. However, the co-op version was always extremely difficult as the alien ai had tank-like health. Alien ai in AvP2 multiplayer seemed to usually ruin great maps like this. Regardless, the singleplayer version is far more playable and enjoyable. The map layout is very large as the player must cross a massive bridge to get around. Essentially the goal is to reach the dropship extraction point, but there are several switches the player must activate, which are of course inconveniently scattered across the map. Back when this map was popular online, players would often get lost on where to go and what to do, as the mission objectives don't appear on the screen. There is a red dot on your tracker which helps a bit, but it can still be a bit confusing. I admit I forgot the placement of these switches and wandered around a bit to explore, but at least it showed off more of the map. Once you realize where you have to go (the switch under the bridge, the switch behind the ladder at the tower, the security room and the evac rooftop) the map is loads of fun. The added turrets make the map even better. Just remember to shoot out the grating above the ladder to climb up to the evac rooftop. This is a common mistake players always forget (myself included). This map is highly recommended.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Bots". Map author: HHO. Map review: "Bots" is not a full singleplayer map, but a prefab map for testing purposes. However, I chose to highlight this map because of how beneficial it is. The player spawns in one large room full of most, if not all the human npcs present on the map. Nearly all of them are stationary, which makes it great for testing new character skins to see how they look. There are a few quirky enemies and npcs that will attack the player or spawn when the player activates a trigger while walking around the map. Other than just looking at all the characters, it's a great map for testing npc-gibbing with explosives. Note there is a mission failure if the player kills any of the marine npcs as it is considered friendly fire. There is nothing more to say about this map as again, it's not a full singleplayer map. It's definitely worth checking out if you are a modder or just want to mess around for fun. This map can be found in HHO's Frosty Aliens Predators - Special Edition (aka FAP_SE).

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "BioWeapon". Map author: Admiral Sleffton Storyline: "On a distant planet, LV 263, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation has established a mining and research facility. The planet's rich mineral deposits made it an ideal source for scientific development. However, the mineral mining facility has simply been a front for public and military eyes. In truth, the Yutani Corporation has discovered a subterranean xenomorph hive on the planet, and constructed the facility to gain access to the hive and conduct experimental research. Now, during one of the most critical experiments, the facility has suffered a power loss. Something has gone wrong. Unable to mount a timely investigation themselves, the Yutani Corporation has asked the marines to investigate the situation. So, after arriving to the planet by dropship, your marine team has set course for the mining facility via APC. Just another routine mission to restore communications at a mineral mining facility and clean up after the Yutani Corporation again.....or so you thought." Map review: BioWeapon is a long singleplayer map. It will take you about an hour or so to complete. I point this out because there are long cutscenes, long elevator waits and some backtracking for keycards and items. It is indeed a good map, you just need to take this map slow not to miss anything. The map does a lot of cool things with unused AvP2 characters such as the striker, rhinog and ceti. Level design is also pretty good as you will go from a Weyland-Yutani facility, to an underground lab, to an underground dig, to ultimately an alien hive. The new voice acting is also done really well and is a welcome addition. BioWeapon has some major flaws though. The first flaw is the serious lack of ammo. Every bullet you have in this map is precious. If you waste any ammo shooting the extra ai in the labs you will be doomed by the end boss predator fight. Furthermore, if you miss picking up the minigun or shotgun (like I did at first) you will struggle to defeat the ceti, praetorian or boss predator. Health is also scarce, but you can manage without it if you quick save often. I've played this map three times now and each time I play it I seem to miss some ammo pickup or crucial weapon mainly because the keycard system is confusing. The storage lockers that don't open rely on keycards to be opened. There is no indication to let you know this. So when you come across a locked locker, it is easy to forget about it and continue on with the map. Moreover, it should be mentioned that you MUST get the dynamite near the elevator at the bottom of the dig to complete this map. The map does not tell you you need dynamite until you get deep in the hive with little ammo/health with infinite respawning aliens. If you forget the dynamite you will be screwed. If you manage to reach the final boss predator, be sure to have a good amount of ammo. He can't be defeated head on as he constantly jumps away when attacked. You need to use his same cheap tactics to beat him by playing cat and mouse. I've defeated him with a knife once when I ran out of ammo, but just barely. Once again, BioWeapon is a cool map. It just has some issues with the difficulty balance.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Base-13F". Map author: Hunter-T Map review: This is a fun map where you play as a predator trying to rescue his fellow clan mate from captivity. The level design is a bit boxy, but it's fun to watch the predator ai follow you around and attack other enemies. Just be careful when using the elevator on this map as it can squash you really easily.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Bar". Map author: Unknown. Map review: Bar is not a full map, but more of a demo as there are no real tasks to accomplish. The map is a big bar/club with a another club in the basement. The player can walk around, but the ai doesn't really respond or react to anything you do, even if you attack them. The map is good for a few laughs. Note: I removed the music from the map as the video would be blocked in many countries if not removed. The map originally had Nine Inch Nails playing at the bar/club area and Darude playing in the basement.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Backstreets". Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk Map review: Backstreets is marine-based skirmish map that takes place in a grungy looking city. The level layout consists of various streets, dark alleys, an underground section and even some rooftop areas. As the marine the player doesn't have much access to the higher ground areas except for the elevated train tracks. There are neat references to AvP2 players and websites scattered across the map too. Map difficulty is pretty hard as the aliens spawn immediately and are relentless. The only real way to stay alive is to stay underground as the alien npcs are too dumb to navigate there. Most of the aliens are drones and runners, but there are triggers hidden about to spawn other alien types. There is a way to get to the exosuit (via torch and hacking tool), but I didn't opt for it in my playthrough. It's a good map, but I preferred the multiplayer version over the skirmish. I recommend this map to players looking for a tougher challenge in skirmish maps.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "AVPMarine". Map author: Nivel426 Map review: AVPMarine is a four map campaign loosely based on the AvP movie. The first map takes place at the Razorback Point outpost in Antarctica where the player must find his tools to progress to the next map, all while being attacked from enemy aliens and predators. The second and third maps take place underground near the underground pyramid. Lastly, the fourth map takes place inside the pyramid itself, although this map lacks enemies and is unfinished. The first three maps are pretty great minus some lag from the pyramid on the second map. There are plenty of jump scares and surprises, that this campaign would be highly recommended for those who want a challenge and horror based AvP maps. Note: This campaign also comes with new main menus and Spanish fonts (Nivel426 was a Spanish map-making team). Therefore, if you don't know Spanish, the mission objectives will be confusing.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "AvP2 Simple Parkour Map". Map author: AmirTech Download link: https://www.moddb.com/games/aliens-vs-predator-2/addons/avp2simpleparkour1 Map review: This simple parkour map is the first "parkour" map for AvP2. The concept of his map is simple enough. Start at A, get through the obstacles and finish at Z. The problem with the map is that there is no real challenge whatsoever. The actual platform jumping can be done in about a minute or less if the player doesn't make too many mistakes. There should be repercussions for failing a jump, whether it is having to get back to the start, losing health, having to swim back or even dying. Furthermore, the author decided to let the player run under all the obstacles to get to the end. This eliminates the requirement to even have to jump across the platforms. Essentially, a player can spawn, run in a straight line to end of the map and beat it in well under a minute. The fact that the map has no challenge makes it lose all replay value. The map could have been greatly improved with more hazards, moving platforms, falling platforms, water, lava, ladders, etc. Basically a parkour map in the style of Ninja Warrior is what would really work for this game. Also the lack of music or ambient sound hurts this map greatly. There are other maps out there that have parkour elements and do it better than this, even though they don't advertise themselves as parkour maps. For example, many other maps have a platforming element over lava while being chased by aliens. After playing those, this map feels like a test map.

I have to admit that I love skin testing maps because they let me mess around with the npcs in ways I typically can't in the singleplayer campaign. In "Skin Test", the player spawns as a predator in a map inspired by the AVP pyramid from the AVP film. The design is very basic, but there are plenty of npcs to view and target for weapon testing. Included are all the alien and predator types, also multiple Weyland-Yutani npcs. There is something bugged with the first human npc on the left though. After that npc is killed, the map tends to end and the singleplayer marine campaign starts. The aliens in the hive area are extremely hostile and can easily one hit kill the player. Since this map is part of a mod, there are new weapons to choose from, as well has new skins for many of the npcs. Unfortunately, I was unable to pick up the spear a second time after throwing it. Therefore, I used a cheat code to give unlimited spears. It's extremely fun to throw. Overall, this is a fun map for messing around in.

There is a predator npc acting as an escort or ally to the player. The escort is a bit buggy in following the player but it does attack the enemy drone alien npc well. The drones can be spawned via the various switches in the small map. There is not much else to this map as it is a test demo for the escort and the new predator weaponry. It's worth checking out with the entire mod as a whole.

The first is a predator map based on the AVP movie. Due to the map being included in a mod, there are new character skins, weapons, sounds, etc. It's all pretty accurate to the film and fun to play. The predator map has two predator ai that should be able to assist the player, but both are fairly broken and won't really help the player. There is another AVP campaign based on this scene from the film and it is better, but this map is fun to play because of the mod changes, despite being relatively short. The second part of this map starts immediately after the player enters the tunnel. Somehow the player transforms from predator into marine. This part of the map is really a test demo to spawn an alien drone ai to fight against the marine ai. Fortunately, the ai respond much better in this map and the player can test out the new guns. This mod is worth looking at to try all the mod changes in addition to the map itself.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Assassin". Map author: Artalavista Map review: Back in 2005 when I was developing my Star Wars mod for AvP2, I put out the idea to any mappers who would want to develop Star Wars maps to be bundled in the mod. I had a bunch of takers but only two mappers actually came through with a finished product. The first was Artalavista, who made two maps for the mod. One of the maps was was SW_Republic_Destroyer for multiplayer. He also made a singleplayer version, which is this map, re-titled as "Assassin". At the time I gave Artalavista no direction other than it had to be Star Wars themed. He saw much of what I was developing for the mod and his imagination took over. He based the map around the episode 2 - 3 time frame with the republic destroyers as the setting for the map. He definitely went all out with the title crawl, using the custom textures to replicate the interior of the ship, custom sound effects, etc. Since the map was bundled with my mod, a lot of it works together quite well. In the map, the player plays as a female Jedi taking on a bunch of Imperial troops in an attempt to eliminate Imperial Governors at some secret meeting with a Sith lord. The hologram is a super nice touch. Personally I love the map and it's a pretty big departure from other horror-oriented AvP2 maps. I highly recommend the map. Map author: Sasa.cz Map review: This is basically the map Alley Alien (built off of dm_alley) but for the predator instead of the alien. Alley Predator is not a great map, but it's the offline version of dm_alley if you don't have any other players to play online against.

Map author: Sasa.cz Map review: This map is basically dm_alley with some marine and corporate ai placed about the map. The ai won't leave wherever they are positioned, but they are quick to shoot you down if they spot you. Alley Alien is not a great map, but it's the offline version of dm_alley if you don't have any other players to play online against.
