The Counterfeiters - Black and White - Silent Film - 1905
The Counterfeiters - Black and White - Silent Film - 1905 - Film converted into Digital Format by http://linktr.ee/TheBeltwayBandits
This is an enormously complex and well mounted production -- for 1905. Purportedly the story of a group of counterfeiters, caught, and then escaping from prison, a story in more than twenty-six shots is nigh unto fantastic for an American production for 1905 -- at the time, only Nordisk in Denmark was doing anything comparable.
However, this was, at least temporarily, a dead end for cinema. Lubin, although it survived into the 1920s, basically owed its strengths to its photographically advanced techniques. Sheltered by the oligopoly of the Patents Trust, it hung on for almost another twenty years, the next to last of the Trust companies to go under -- outlasted by only Vitagraph, which was absorbed by Warner Brothers.
But looking at this piece, while we can admire the scale of work involved in 26 set-ups, we can also see that the acting is primitive and the sets are clearly cardboard. Nor does the cutting serve to push the story along. Lubin would remain the most conservative of the majors through the end of the Trust Era, always following others' advances but rarely initiating them. Perhaps that willingness to follow where others led never made it reach the heights of creativity that, say, Biograph did under Griffith -- but it survived Biograph by half a decade.

High Speed Art Show
His life's work... John Chladek's Objectivity of Expression - http://Linktr.ee/TheBeltwayBandits
This was created in memory of my dear uncle John, who wanted us to keep spreading the love.
John Chladek the Master Oil Painter. 1932 to 2015
John created an impressive number of well over 800 works of art during his life time.
This is the most complete collection ever assembled for public viewing.
We wanted to create something different that was fast and to the point.
So we decided to present pictures at .125 of a second.
Or watch the other video I created that plays slower.
But this let us squeeze my uncle John Chladek's blood, sweat and tears of his entire life's work into just 1 minute! Amazing! Please note I did not do this to belittle his work. Just that we understand most everybody has a socially conditioned short attention span and this would be comfortable to watch.
There are just over 800 paintings shown in the order that John created and numbered them displayed in 1 minute!
Hit pause if you see something you like.
Note some of these original works of art are still available for sale.
Please contact me for details if you are interested in owning very own collectable original "CHLADEK".
Warmest regards,
David Chladek

A devastated tramp (Charlie Chaplin) visits a crowd-filled bar and recounts the story of how he fell in love with a woman and then had her taken by a friend of his. Drunk, he keeps trying to draw the woman's picture on the floor with a piece of chalk, and gets into fights with other men in the process. He eventually passes out “dead drunk” (thus deviating from the poem, where the protagonist actually falls “dead”) at the end of the film.
According to Chaplin expert Gerald D. McDonald, "The subtitles of the film were lines from the poem, but the original verses were altered to match the Keystone credo that life is a funny game at best."
Face on the Bar Room Floor is a short film written and directed by Charles Chaplin in 1914. Chaplin stars in this film, loosely based on the poem of the same name by Hugh Antoine d'Arcy.
