Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton, Book Review#15 by StabtheDragon#143
This is a story that must be told. It deserves to be placed into verse, and recited around a campfire while dangerous men are heating their rations, preparing for battle....

Devils River Rye v.Oak&Eden Rye&Rahr, Texas Rye Tournament Bracket2 Elite8 StabtheDragon142
2023/11/29 Both of these whiskeys have some labeling issues: where are they actually distilled? One of these bottles is now a ghost whiskey...out of production. Both of these are very good but which one would I drink 3 out of 5 times? Do either of these have the Texas funk?

Blackland Rye 100 vs. Tahwakaro Texas Rye Malt Rye Whiskey Tournament by StabtheDragon#139
This is match#8 of Bracket #2 in the Texas Rye Whiskey Tournament. In Bracket #1 Blackland 100 won its first math against Balcones Texas Rye, but the criteria in Bracket #1 was stressing the clean, pure, rye flavor.. without the Texas funk. The Texas climate greatly affects our whiskeys if the whiskey is aged in a warehouse that allows the heat and cold in. Blackland has a climate controlled warehouse. Tahwahkaro is exposed to that harsh climate. Bracket #2 is simply all about which whiskey do I prefer 3 out of 5 times. Who will win tonight?!

12 Strong with Chris Hemsworth, Movie Review#7 StabtheDragon#138 & Minuteman Single Malt
2023-11-11 Veterans' Day. This movie is a modern American War Movie Classic; I rated it 9/10. Every American should watch this movie to help in understanding the 20 yr war in Afghanistan. Warning: this movie, though excellent, is a gut punch because it is prophetic.

Bower Hill Reserve Rye review#57 by StabtheDragon#137
2023-11-06 This is a mystery whiskey that is probably a dead brand now, but it has a very nice bottle, good flavors for an 86 proof straight rye, and a great historical background. Lack of clarity by the whiskey company spoils it some though.

Giant Straight Rye v. Balcones Texas Straight Rye Texas Rye Tournament StabtheDragon#136
2023-10-30 This is the 7th match in Bracket#2 of the Texas Rye Whiskey Tournament. Have to admit that Balcones is my "favored to win" whiskey, but Giant is awesome too and will give it a great competition. Both of these Texas Ryes have a heavy Texas "funk", that deep barrel char flavor that comes from the Texas extreme climate. They both have a long-lasting finish that tastes like a cigar.

Black Hawk Down Movie Review #6 by StabtheDragon #134
2023-10-21 This movie deserves to be in my Top Ten Military/War Movies of all time. Black Hawk Down tells the story, pretty accurately, of the Battle of Mogadishu in Oct 1993. The courage of our soldiers and the stupidity of our politicians are the twin themes. The movie was released in 2001, just 3 months after 9/11, so it is now over 20 yrs old; well, I like watching and reviewing old movies, so this one now qualifies....

Acre Texas Rye Rum Cask 100 proof v. Milam&Greene Straight Rye Port Finish 94proof
StabtheDragon#133 Texas Rye Tournament Bracket#2 Match #6, 2023-10-16. Both of these are amazing, but I was able to find one I prefer over the other. Acre is aged 3 years and then finished another year in an acre Rum cask, the Milam&Greene is Indiana distilled, but then aged in Blanco, Texas with Port Wine casks- no age statement but as a straight Rye it has to be at least 2 years old. Both whiskeys are about $48 but the Acre is a single barrel release at the distillery only whereas Milam&Greene is widely distributed.

White Sun War, a novel by General Mick Ryan, reviewed by StabtheDragon Productions 2022-09-13
Mick Ryan is a Major General in the Australian Army writing a book about the looming war between China and Taiwan which will include America, Japan, Australia, and other countries. The book is in the military Science Fiction genre because it takes place in the future and involves technology that is not quite developed yet, but will be soon. This is an outstanding book that should be read by everyone in the military, all elected government officials, and those in the defense industry. The book is Scary good. I pray this does not happen!

The Vikings 1958 movie with Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh review#4 by StabtheDragon#126
This is a classic, epic, swashbuckler, featuring romance, Vikings, war, lots of "toxic masculinity" that we need more of today! A huge box office success that was panned by the critics of the day, but loved by millions. 3 of the actors in this movie were World War II US Navy veterans. A beautiful musical score combines with amazing scenery and cinematography- filmed on location in Norway.

Gun Runner by Larry Correia and John Brown, Fiction Review#3 by StabtheDragon#125
2023-08-18 This 596pp book was published by Baen in 2021 and is an interesting and fun read in the Space Opera/Military Sci Fi category. Picture a futuristic space ship that is a merchant ship/smuggler that steals weapons and tech from the evil powers that be and sells to struggling freedom loving folks. But this time, the Captain and crew may have made a mistake! Swindle is a world that fulfills all your nightmares; everything there will kill you, stomp you, poison you, and eat you. The authors weave a fairly complex plot with lots of sub-plots, a cast of good guys and not-so-good-guys with plenty of ethical questions and choices that must be made. This is good clean fun with enough thought to make it challenging. Please, please let there be sequels!

Leadslingers Fighting Spirit Rye v. Lockwood Straight Rye, Texas Rye Tourney Bracket2, StabtheDragon
2023-08-07 This is the second match-up for Bracket2 of the Texas Rye Whiskey Tournament. There are some rule changes this time around, and two whiskeys have had to be dropped from the competition. in Bracket1 I was looking for good, clean, rye flavor. This time I am simply looking for which whiskey I prefer the best. Texas whiskeys can have a strong charred oak flavor that I love, or, if aged in a climate- controlled warehouse, they can avoid that heavy char flavor. Which one do I like the most? Tonight's matchup surprised me with how close it was because I thought I had a clear favorite going into the match. Glass #1 was Leadslingers and glass #2 was Lockwood.

Kavalan Single Malt ex-Bourbon Oak, Taiwanese Whiskey Review57 StabtheDragon123
This whisky is a gift from a friend who is a world traveler. Kavalan comes from King Car distillery in Taiwan, and though this expression is not available in Ft Worth at the stores I shop, other expressions are. Online I have seen prices that range from $90-$140. This whisky was not my thing...at least not yet. Prior experience with whiskies I did not take too right away leads me to think I may start liking it better at about the half-way point in the bottle.

Blackland Rye 83 v. Acre Texas Rye 83, Texas Rye Tournament Bracket#2, StabtheDragon120
This is the 2nd Bracket of the Texas Rye Whiskey Tournament where the rules have changed and some of the matchups have changed. In this bracket I am simply looking for which whiskey I prefer. This will emphasize the Texas funk that shows up in our whiskeys because of the extreme climate. In Bracket#1 I was looking for just a good, clean, pure rye flavor. Blackland 83 won that first bracket, will it win again?

StabtheDragon#119. 2023-06-19 This is the Championship match of the Texas Rye Whiskey Tournament, Bracket 1. The emphasis in this bracket is pure, rye flavor. Blackland was the winner of the lower proof side of the bracket, and Still Austin was the winner of the high proof side of the bracket. Who will win....oops...wait a minute...something bad happened....one of these whiskeys committed a foul......
