Jazz's Protective Instincts - Dudley Zoo Alarm Startles Orangutans
An Alarm went off at Dudley Zoo which spooked the Orangutan family.
Orangutan Mother Jazz was at the diving door of the two areas. When suddenly an alarm went off. She already had Jim on her arm and Joe quickly crawled into Jazz's arm as well. Jazz didn't seem to be too worried at first, but her daughter Sprout seemed quite spooked, she pulled her mum's hair and went up to the door. Jazz runs off hooting to the other side with the babies save in her arms. Luckily the alarm stopped pretty quickly and no need for concern. She goes inside but quickly comes back out again. Jazz still kept the babies in her arms for a bit. Making sure they are safe. While I concentrated on Jazz and the babies Sprout was inside.
When Jazz started to squeeze her sport again (she is the master of squeezing her spots lol) you knew she was OK and soon after the babies started playing again.
Jim is the one chewing the strap and then climbing on it and Joe is the one by Jazz's back.
Sprout is there at the end, eating a leave with her straw hat on.

Hairless Chimpanzee Shares Emotional Moment With His Soulmate
This is the emotional moment when two hairless chimpanzees share their love and affection for each other. Watch as they act like lovers do in a way you would never expect it! Adorable!
Jambo from the Twycross Zoo in England is completely relaxed in his new enclosure called Eden. He seems <a href="https://rumble.com/v30mzv-hairless-chimp-in-love.html" target="_blank">totally in love</a> and besotted with his female mate. He is caressing her foot gently, while she is playing hard to get and keeps pulling away. Just like humans, you can see her later putting her hands around his neck in a loving gesture. Then she starts to kiss his bald head gently. The next bit is just amazing as Jambo pulls away and stretches out his lips towards her.
She then gently bites his lips and pulls on it. She continues to investigate his teeth for a few seconds before biting his lip again. He then continues with a French kiss, sticking out his tongue. He even closes his eyes for a second to enjoy the intimate moment! Afterwards he gently bites her brows. You can easily see how animal love doesn't differ much from our own. Even an alpha male, that shows everybody who the boss is by intimidating the opponent with lots of noise and bluster, that he can be also very gentle. An amazing animal couple. And for Jambo it shows that being a bit different doesn't stop you from doing anything, from becoming the boss to a gentle lover.
The question on your mind is, why is Jambo hairless? People also call him the 'naked chimp'. Some people think they shaved him or that he is ill. The truth is, the ape has Alopecia, a medical term for hair loss and he had it since adolescence. He is now 35 years old and with his hair gone you can simply see how powerfully muscular he is. Being a <a href="https://rumble.com/v33qx6-the-facinating-hairless-chimpanzees.html" target="_blank">hairless chimpanzee</a> hasn't stopped him from anything, rather the opposite as he's the alpha male and rules his habitat!

Grumpy Silverback Gorilla deals with super annoying son
Oumbi is having a rest - well he is trying to - under the pavilion and making himself comfortable while Lope is being silly on the other side of the wall. Strutting his stuff, his face covered in wood wool. He does a little twist and beats his chest and then he goes to work on being the most annoying son he can be. He looks around the corner and stares at dad who tries hard to ignore him.
Lope beats his chest again and bangs on the wall where his dad is leaning against. The second time he does it, Oumbi hits back at the wall as to say keep it down boy. Lope doesn't give up easily, so he does it again and again. When Lope does his spins and it gone quite Oumbi hits the wall with his fist, like he almost missed Lopes annoying antics. Look at Lope after his spins, he's just resting his head casually on his head lying down. Looking in dads direction and off he goes again. Than he tries a different method coming running from the other site.
Oumbi beats his chest. The second time Lope comes round the other site is just so funny, he just pokes his head around the wall slowly and then the rascal throws a stick at dad and beats his chest! We would just love to know what Oumbi is thinking. Looking at his face now, he's starting to get more annoyed and waiting for his sons next move!

Gorilla youngster beats chest at mom, instantly regrets it
Scraping the frozen snow off the wooden platform, Lope the gorilla just loves his frozen snow. When Ozala and his baby brother come up to the platform, he isn't happy. He's just not in the mood for sharing! He beats his chest repeatedly at mum brother Shufai. When that doesn't help, he runs at his baby brother and tries pulling him off the platform. Schufai runs screaming to their mom. The two enjoy the winter ice that the cold weather brought. When Lope approaches again, Ozala defends her youngest by letting Lope know to stay away.

Rowdy Baby Gorilla Gets Disciplined By Dad In Front Of Zoo Visitors
Working in a zoo can be quite dangerous at times, but it pales in comparison to the times it’s made you feel elated to even know these amazing creatures. Being a zoo caretaker lets you get to know these beautiful souls a little bit better and create a tight bond, even become friends. Aside from making sure they remain healthy and adapt to the life in captivity, you get to learn all about their quirks and realize that they might be animals, but they each have their own character, and it’s absolutely amazing.
Zoos are great places to encounter wild animals that you might not have seen otherwise in your day to day life. You may never get to see Africa in person, but if you visit the zoo, you might just see a handful of the animals that would normally roam the earth over there. Zoos make us see the animals for what they are when they are surrounded by their tight knit group, we won’t experience the violence and the need for lashing out and hunting, we would only see them in their roles as parents, brothers, sisters, friends and we would realize how similar to us they are. This video just shows us that some things are just bound to stay the same.
Shufai the baby gorilla was having a great time playing with some tree branches in Twycross ZOO until his father Oumbi decided to take them all away (since technically he's playing with his food). But when Shufai persists, Oumbi does a total dad move to let him know he's serious!
The kid runs after his dad, while the 24-year-old Silverback gorilla gather all the branches from the enclosure and puts them away. Shufai’s older brother Lope knows well to stay away from dad’s path, but the <a href="https://rumble.com/v3vox7-cheeky-lope-the-gorilla-youngster-smacks-adult-on-her-nose.html" target="_blank">gorilla youngster</a> wants his toys back.
In an effort to stop dad from removing all of his toys, Shufai tries to grab dad by the foot, but the elder puts him back in his place with a determined, but still very gentle nudge with the foot.
Body language is a big deal with these giants and the baby knew that very instant that playtime is over! Instead of chasing after dad, the baby sits on his butt and contemplates his choices, before turning away and running after <a href="https://rumble.com/v3u8cf-motherly-love-is-truly-heartwarming.html" target="_blank">mom</a> Ozala.
Shufai was born on September 24, 2016 and is the third baby for 22-year-old mother Ozala and 24-year-old father Oumbi. As well as being a joyous occasion for zoo staff and visitors, the birth is an important part of conservation efforts to save the species, as the number of Western lowland gorillas in the wild has dramatically declined by more than 60% in the last 20-25 years, and scientists predict they will become extinct in the next 20 years or so.
What did you think about this video? Make sure you tell us more in the comments down below. If you like what you see, don’t forget to share it with others who might like it as well. It just might be the highlight of their day! Enjoy!

The fascinating hairless chimpanzees
Check out this footage of Mongo and Jambo, a father and son duo who suffer from alopecia, which is the general medical term for hair loss. Sadly Mongo passed away last year (2016) at age 22. He was undergoing a routine health check for his enlarged neck gland at the Twycross Zoo, but failed to come around from the anesthetic. Jambo is still very much the boss since he is the alpha male in the group of chimpanzees.

Silverback Gorilla breaks up vicious fight between females
The Silverback western lowland gorilla from the Twycross Zoo is flexing his muscles when he charges over to break up the fighting females.
It is quite terrifying to see how powerful the male is and to hear all the screams from the two female gorillas. Lope the eldest son is being his usual self and has a go at Biddy his grandma. Grandma is having none of it this time and pushes Lope away. Ozala that sits beside her sees this and has a go at her mother for having a go at Lope. The watchful eye of the Silverback gorilla Oumbi reacts in an instant, the way a Silverback should and launches himself towards the females, trying to break up the fight between Ozala and Biddy. Little Shufai runs towards the two females the same time Oumbi was moving. He first clung on to Biddi and then when mum emerged he clung on to her back, and was holding on right through the middle of it all. Biddy then got pushed out of the door by Oumbi, and then Oumbi has a go at Ozala.
Lope did not get involved at first, he just looked at them, seemingly in shock that he might of caused the fight, but then he did get involved and he went for dad, grabbing his backside. When Oumbi let go and run away, Lope still had a hold of his back. A very noisy Ozala had go at Oumbi, while Oumbi did a few more laps running around until he went into the back to calm down. Biddy came back in from the back entrance. When Oumbi came out from the back again, he went into the corner, still quite agitated looking. Asante comes down from her top bunk, obviously witnessing it all from above. A little later when Oumbi comes out from the back, Lope makes way and you can see Ozala in the back with Shufai . She’s giving Oumbi the evil eye and everybody is staying well clear of the silverback. The most sorry you feel for the baby gorilla Shufai, putting himself in the middle of it all. Oumbi did a great job in breaking up the female fight.Even though Ozala started the fight by overreacting they seem to blame the Silverback. Everything was fine afterwards, no one got physically hurt, only their pride.

Watch This Playful Young Gorilla As He's Showing Off His Signature Walk
A lot of us find it difficult to present our confidence, it is hard to put yourself out there, especially in front of a big audience. We should all be more like this Gorilla youngster named Lope. It seems that he loves to show his confidence off, and doesn't mind when people are watching either. This is a compilation of clips of the gorilla youngster Lope, and it makes everyone laugh when he shows off his signature walk. He seems so confident when he struts around like that, so awesome! Maybe he should get into modelling, his walk is quite impressive! This little guy definitely has some attitude, too funny!
Gorillas live in forests of Central Africa and are divided into two species, the eastern gorillas and the western gorillas which are both sadly endangered. They are the largest living primates and have DNA very similar to humans, from about 95 to 99 percent of DNA. That is very cool! They are also the closest living relatives to humans, awesome!
Check out this Gorilla named Lope walking around like a human, too funny!
Have you ever seen a gorilla close up before? Let us know in the comment section down below!

Gorilla youngster astonishingly dodges electric fence
This gorilla youngster is just amazing. He managed to get through the other side of the electric fence that separates the window and their enclosure just to say hello to the visitors. He moves further down between the fence and the window and starts to contemplate how to get back to the other side of the electric fence to the rest of the group.
First he smells the fence careful so he won't touch it with his nose. Now watch him closely, it's just amazing and funny at the same time. He tries to judge the electric fence gap by rocking on his feet and judging with his hands. Rooting for him to make it through to the other site without him getting zapped. Another gorilla comes over to have a look. Wonder what he's thinking.
Not feeling to comfortable with getting through the wire gaps, he moves on to another part of the fence and tries again by sticking his arm through the wire gap - judging again. And then relief, happiness, he's done it! He did it like a pro without touching the wire. What a star!

Fighting Hairless Chimpanzees Cause Tense Scene At The Zoo
We have seen male chimpanzees in action many times and we know their dominant behavior. If you haven’t stumbled upon harsh mammal dominance, make sure you stick around for a moment to witness the action as self-confident males craving for attention try to claim dominance over the pride. It's all for recognition!
These are the muscular hairless chimpanzees from the Twycross Zoo in Atherstone, England. Jambo and Mongo are a father and son duo that are both suffering from hereditary alopecia, which is the general medical term for hair loss. When chimps look like they are fighting, it's actually called displaying. It's about intimidating the opponent with lots of uproar and bluster. Intense!
Glass or not, watching chimpanzees charge at you only to pound on their chests, is definitely a scary experience! In this video, we are fazed by what these huge mammals are trying to achieve as they engage in a fierce game of chase in their enclosure at the zoo. This is typical behavior, it is just what chimpanzees do. They just exude that dominance and they want to show that any way they can, while making a lot of noise and fuss about it. The pounding of chests and the angry charging, makes chimpanzees seem pretty scary to be around! Now, imagine dealing with a dozen raging mammals all at once. Scary, right!?
In this footage we see over a dozen chimpanzees engaging into a fierce game of chase as if they were playing tag together. Showing the others who’s in charge, a hairless male chimpanzee can be seen painting the town red, claiming dominance over this game of chase. Watch as he charges straight to the other mates with such incredible force that we think he’s going to lose it. We bet he is the one causing this whole chaos at the zoo encounter. Next time, we hope he learns how to hold his horses, and exercise his dominance elsewhere, and not disturb his mates at the zoo.
Apparently, this is not the first time that chimpanzees from the Twycross Zoo in Atherstone, England, cause a tense scene. In another video we see a <a href="https://rumble.com/v35g1y-5292934.html" target="_blank">dominant chimpanzee showing everybody that he's the boss</a>. He charges through his enclosure, walking like a human and then hurling food at the visitors. You can hear the loud bang against the window!
Another hilarious footage has emerged of an over-confident male gorilla exercising dominance in his zoo enclosure. However, his heroic act was tainted with an epic slip up. Who would have known that even a silverback gorilla can slip up? He slipped so much that he did the splits! Adorable!
Imagine going to the ZOO to visit all those exotic animals, only to witness the rare sight of chimpanzees engaging into a fierce game of tag. Footage shows over a dozen aggressive chimpanzees furiously raging in their zoo enclosure, painting the town red with their extra dose of adrenaline. Watch as these <a href="https://rumble.com/v347qa-bonobo-siblings-play-fight.html" target="_blank">chimpanzees engage in fierce fight</a> over dominance in their cage. You sure wouldn’t want to get in their way as they try to settle the feud! The massive mammals are clearly showing visitors their impressive strength as they try to prove who’s the alpha male!
Unlike this intense video of raging chimpanzees, this heartwarming footage shows the <a href="https://rumble.com/v531vv-fascinating-romance-blossoming-for-hairless-chimpanzee.html" target="_blank">emotional moment when two hairless chimpanzees share their love and affection for each other</a>, acting like lovers do in a way you would never expect it!

Big Silverback Gorilla Lets Everyone Know Who's Boss
The big gorilla is not having one of his best days. Oumbi is getting agitated by the fact that he can't choose to go inside when he wants to, like he normally can. He's strutting his stuff, beating his chest and taking his frustration out on the rest of the family. The reason for being locked out all day is that their inside enclosure is having a refit with new climbing frames and ropes. The family keeps looking through the windows to see what is going on inside. All that waiting doesn't play well with Oumbi and he lets out his frustration on his family!

Happy Baby Rhino Begs Mom To Play With It
Akeno the greater one-horned rhino calf from Chester Zoo is just a barrel of energy. He runs around with those cute little wiggly ears headbutting his mom every so often. When mom decided to lie down, Akeno bumps into her leg, then walks around her and jumps on her back! While on top of her he gives her little nudges, one after another. When that is not working he gets off her back and nudges her in the butt and runs off. After a few more nudges in his mother's face and another runaround, his mom finally gets up again.
Who could think that such large and dangerous animals could be so adorable? Isn't this the cutest spectacle you have seen in zoos?
Also known as the greater <a href="https://rumble.com/v30q6p-newborn-one-horned-rhino-calf.html" target="_blank">one-horned rhino</a>ceros and great Indian rhinoceros, the baby was born at the Chester Zoo, Cheshire England at around 6 pm on the 3rd of May 2018. It is a male and they named him Akeno, meaning “beautiful sunrise”. Asha, his 11-year-old mom, had a 16-month pregnancy and only a 20-minute labor. The dad, Beni, is separated from these two, presumably for safety reasons.
When on the topic of rhinos, take a look at this baby who did not have such a great start in life, but due to the love and care of animal protection teams got a new chance in life. This <a href="https://rumble.com/v32z2y-adorable-newborn-rhino-rescued-after-being-abandoned-by-its-mother.html" target="_blank">adorable newborn rhino rescued after being abandoned by its mother</a>.
A baby rhino abandoned as a newborn due to a case of mistaken identity was saved by a local rescue team. The rhino, now one-month-old, lives with the team at Aquila Rescue Centre, who have developed an 18-month plan to reintroduce him into the wild. Looking after the young calf is a full-time occupation, with the baby needing to be fed every two hours. He has also be assigned a mentor to teach him how to graze, something his mother would have done.
On New Year’s Eve 2015, the staff at the Aquila Rescue Center in Cape Town, South Africa, received a call about an injured rhino calf in the wilderness. The team discovered the baby rhino close to midnight, slumped in the dirt. According to Divan Grobler, a member of the conservationist team, his mother probably mistook her baby with another newborn in the vicinity and left her own by mistake.
The team spent the entire night with the baby, trying to locate its mother and reunite them, but had no luck. Ten hours had passed without luck and the calf was getting hungry. The team brought the baby rhino back to the center and tried again the next day, only for the mother to reject him once more.
Now one month old, the baby rhino lives with the team at Aquila Rescue Centre. They have developed an 18-month plan to reintroduce their newest protegee back in the wild, where he belongs. Until then, he needs to be fed every two hours and can consume 15-20% of his body weight in formula. Not to mention the exercise!
What do you think about this video? Make sure you tell us more in the comments down below. If you like what you see, don’t forget to share it with others who might like it as well. It just might be the highlight of their day! Enjoy!

Older Sibling Tries To Harass Baby Gorilla, Gets A Taste Of His Own Medicine
This video is a perfect example of sibling rivalry. It doesn’t matter if you’re seven years old or seventy-seven, a boy or a girl, you will always find the time to prank your sibling. The race, the gender, the animal kingdom you belong to are all moot points when it comes to having a bit of fun with your relative. Apparently, gorillas are quite the pranksters.
Check out these popular <a href="https://rumble.com/v3e48o-gorilla-youngster-grabs-and-drags-baby-brother.html">gorilla siblings</a> from the Twycross Zoo in England - you just can't ever stop watching them! There is always something happening in their nook in the zoo. In this instance, Lope the Gorilla youngster is harassing his baby brother by grabbing him several times. He tries to trip him but to no avail. The baby gorilla, however, has other plans. He just knows that no matter how nasty his older brother gets, he would always have his mommy to take care of him.
Take a look as this situation "goes down" and wild instincts kick in. The gorilla mama watches over her two little trouble-makers from a distance, but isn’t willing to step in until the last moment. It seems like the older brother has finally crossed the line when he manages to trip the baby with a swipe of his hand. The mom steps in between the two and takes the baby by her side. The little mischievous tot stays back for a few seconds, wanting to gloat, but in true mom fashion, she scolds him and makes him climb on her back to get to safety.

Gibbons Tell Intrusive Rat He's Not Welcome In The Enclosure
What do you do when you see a rat? Do you grab your skirt and jump on the highest point inside your house, screaming at the top of your lungs for someone to come and rid you of your misery? Or do you grab your broom/shovel/other cold weapon of choice and go after the sneaking little bugger, letting him know that he shall not pass?
These gibbons definitely went the courageous way when they one very rude and intrusive <a href="https://rumble.com/v344va-ridiculous-plan-to-remove-a-rat-from-a-house-actually-works.html" target="_blank">rat</a> in their enclosure at the Dudley ZOO in England. The lar gibbons went absolutely bananas when they saw the rodent casually nibbling on something in the grass. One of them was catching some sunshine, while the others were poking through the grass, but when the rat started moving, everyone went ballista on the rodent. One of the monkey did what every cartoon character would do in its situation - it took to the ropes to get the hell out of there!
“Hilarious lar gibbons are getting all panicky about the rat in their enclosure,” is written in the description of the original video. “Penny, the baby is trying to shoo the rat away with its long arms when his mom, Meo, comes to help and they both run the rat out of the enclosure.”
While the babies ran away, the mom took on a protective posture, as any mom would and darted after the rat to scare it away. Another <a href="https://rumble.com/v44v93-gibbon-hugging-cat-to-keep-warm.html" target="_blank">gibbon</a> joined forces, ultimately rushing the uninvited guest out.

Funny compilation of monkeys walking like humans
Did you know that apes enjoy walking on two feet like humans do? Look at this compilation of the various apes, like the gibbon, with its long legs and arms dangling down while walking. Then there are the chimpanzees with their funny walks and even Jambo the hairless chimp walks on two feet!
Oumbi the big silverback gorilla has a go at it as well while picking up his food, but the master at this is the gorilla youngster called Lope! With him you can just see how much he loves to walk on two feet. He’s just got that real swagger and can show everybody else how it is done. You can see him feeling comfortable in doing it as well.

Silverback dad defends & protects daughter
Afia the Western Lowland Gorilla is on top of the climbing frame, while her half sister Ayana is playing with a log and running after dad. Suddenly Afia comes rolling in. She continues to roll and play in front of Jock the Silverback. Ayana and Afia have a little tussle when dad just quickly moves his hand towards them. Ayana then tries to climb on her big sisters back when suddenly another female Gorilla came running in and wanting to get involved. Dad Jock was having none of it and pushed her away. The staff did tell me Jock was a very good dad, always looking out for the two girls.

Gorilla charges son after taking playtime too far
Lope and Shufai are having a play fight in front of their big silverback dad who is sitting quietly in the corner. When those two are tumbling a bit too close to Oumbi, the Silverback grabs Lope gently and turns him around without any effort. The brothers continue to play, but Lope gives Oumbi just that little glance of disapproval. Shufai continues to play with Lope while Lope is fighting dad’s arm, which is nearly the same size. Dad just can’t stop himself getting involved and keeps grabbing Lope, but Oumbi seems pretty relaxed with it all.
Lope decides it’s time to annoy dad some more by trying to grab his face. Little Shufai quickly runs to the other end because he probably knows what is coming. Lope continues by beating his chest in front of Oumbi and just being silly in general. That was the last straw for the silverback as he first pouts his lips and it takes only another chest beat from Lope to make those massive muscles move like a lighting strike launching towards Lope. His son managed to get away, but his dad certainly made his feelings very clear. He is still the boss!

Youngster Gorilla Has The Funniest Human Walk
You've might have seen the silverback Gorilla Louis, an 18-year-old male western lowland gorilla that has been in the news for walking upright at the Philadelphia Zoo. Well, this is nothing new for Lope the gorilla youngster from Twycross zoo in England. You have seen him walk like human many times on this channel, but he manages to make it more hilarious every time. He makes everybody laugh with his swagger. The <a href="https://rumble.com/v4g3yj-10-coolest-animal-self-defense-mechanisms.html" target="_blank">coolest</a> kid on the block.
The 5-year-old managed to get a big salad during feeding time and walks upright to his favorite spot to sit down and have a few bites. When he had enough, he gets back on his two feet. With his salad still in his mouth, he starts beating his chest, brimming with self-confidence. He moves on with his chest poking out walking down the slope and even walking back up again on his two feet like a human!
It doesn’t stop there he does a full round, yes, still on two feet and the best bit is at the end seeing him from his behind waddling towards the entrance of his inside enclosure. Lope is one of two sons of Ozala and dad Oumbi.
The <a href="https://rumble.com/v3y7hh-baby-gorilla-gets-kicked-by-dad.html" target="_blank">gorilla</a> family at Twycross consists of 6 members. Oumbi the big male silverback, Ozala the mum of Lope and Shufai. Grandma Bidi and Asante. In 2009 Oumbi joined Twycross zoo to mate with the females. Ozala was Oumbi chosen mate.Lope - was born on the morning of 3 January 2013. Shufai was born on the 24th of September 2016.

The Orangutan babies from the Twycross Zoo are a joy to watch. When they aren't trolling through the enclosure, they playfighting and today, a game of slapsies. Basuki is pulling his half-sister off the tree trunk. Kayan falls and does a roll. Then the fun of slapsies starts. Too funny!

Male Orangutan Attempts To Bite His Baby's Head
If you ever needed proof of just how closely we are related to apes, then this video should do the trick. Shot in the orangutan enclosure in the Twycross zoo in the UK, a baby orangutan tried showing a little bit of sass, but got interrupted by none other than his fearsome dad.
The male borneo orangutan Batu is following his son Basuki through the outdoor enclosure. He keeps trying to grab his son, but his son is getting away. Basuki is tumbling and stumbling and then climbs the net. He is not out of reach, so Batu pulls his son down. When the big male opens his mouth it looks quite scary with his big teeth showing as if he wants to bite the little babies head.
He then carries Basuki away, until Basuki wiggles free again and is trying once more to get away. Dad follows and grabs him again by his little arms and drags him and pushes him inside the door.
Batu was very determined to get his son inside and Basuki really didn't want to go. He did manage in the end, but it wasn't long before Basuki escaped again and came outside heading for the climbing net. When Batu came out again, little Basuki quickly headed for his mom.
Did you know that orangutans have the slowest known life histories of any mammal on the planet? Basically, they take their sweet time growing up and they take even more time to reproduce. Baby orangutans depend on their moms for the first two years of their lives, hanging onto them for transport until they are as old as 5 years of age. They can even breastfeed on their mom’s milk until they are 8! When they get too old or too big to be carried around, they still stick to their moms by holding hands, which is called buddy travel. Orangutan dads almost never take part in the upbringing of their young, so seeing this kind of interaction between dad Batu and naughty boy Basuki is quite rare.

Ms. Badham became an expert of primates in captivity, providing chimps for as a way to raise funds for the zoo. One of her primate protegees even went on to become a movie star, appearing in a Hammer Horror film with Peter Cushing.
Twycross Zoo now houses around 500 animals of almost 150 species, including many endangered ones. It is renowned as a “specialist primate zoo” and is the only zoo in the United Kingdom to exhibit all four types of great ape: bonobo, chimpanzee, orangutan and gorilla. Twycross currently houses 13 bonobos, 20 chimps, four <a href="https://rumble.com/v6nbav-rescued-orangutan-becomes-surrogate-mother-to-orphaned-infant.html" target="_blank">orangutans</a> and five gorillas. About 37% of their animal collection is classed as near threatened, vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered by the IUCN. Many of their animals are part of conservation breeding programs which help ensure a future for species threatened with extinction.

Silverback gorilla shows off his daily workout routine
Oumbi the male gorilla from the Twycross Zoo is the most active just before lunchtime. Like everybody else, he's getting all excited for the food. They are waiting for the doors to close so the keepers can scatter the food outside. Apart from a few outburst that he has to keep his family in check, he is quite happy being mostly just sitting, eating, relaxing and sleeping, which does make you wonder how he gets all those muscles. Well now you'll find out.
He's doing his daily routine of pull-ups! Just look how he manages to do them with so much ease! When he does his first pull up you’ll see his mate Ozala in the background running with baby Shufai. After he had his pull-ups he’s running through the enclosure to let everybody know he’s the boss and everybody moves quickly out of his way. Asante is resting up the top and you can see Oumbi having a little dig at her. He continues with some more gym exercise, before he has another go at the others.
Oumbi is normally the first one out after lunch, that is if Lope his cheeky son doesn’t get there first! Than it’s Ozala with baby Shufai. Asante the aunt and grandma Bidi are always the last ones to go out and giving all the others the chance of feeding first, until they are getting there share.
