Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is a NASA space mission aimed at testing a method of planetary defense against near-Earth objects (NEOs). Launched from Earth in November 2021, the mission will deliberately crash a space probe into the minor-planet moon Dimorphos of the double asteroid Didymos to assess the future potential of a spacecraft impact to deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth through a transference of momentum. The asteroid poses no actual threat to Earth; it was merely selected for the test.
DART is a joint project between NASA and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The project is funded through NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, managed by NASA's Planetary Missions Program Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center, and several NASA laboratories and offices are providing technical support. International partners, such as the European Space Agency (ESA), Italian Space Agency (ASI), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), are contributing to related or subsequent projects. In August 2018, NASA approved the project to start the final design and assembly phase. The DART spacecraft was successfully launched on 24 November 2021, with collision slated for 26 September 2022 at 23:14 UTC

Breaking News | Hurricane Fiona Category 4 : Canada braces for 'historic, extreme event'
Hundreds of thousands of people are without power as Hurricane Fiona begins to batter Canada's Atlantic Coast.
Parts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick are experiencing torrential rain and winds of up to 148 km/h (92 mph).
The Canadian Hurricane Centre warned ahead of its arrival that Fiona could be "a historic, extreme event", with expected power cuts and flooding.
At least eight people died when Fiona cut through the Caribbean.
"It's going to be a bad one," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday. "We encourage everyone to stay safe and to listen to the instructions of local authorities and hang in there for the next 24 hours."
Tropical storm warnings were issued for the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and New Brunswick, as well as in parts of Quebec.
The country's eastern region could receive up to 10in (25cm) of rain, increasing the risk of flash flooding.
In Nova Scotia, shelters were prepared in Halifax and Cape Breton for people to take cover ahead of the storm.
"We have been through these types of events before, but my fear is, not to this extent," said Amanda McDougall, mayor of Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
"The impacts are going to be large, real and immediate."
Severe hurricanes in Canada are rare, as storms lose their energy once they hit colder waters in the north and become post-tropical instead. But pressure in the region is predicted to be historically low as Hurricane Fiona hits, making way for a heavier storm.
Nova Scotia was last battered by a tropical cyclone in 2003 with Hurricane Juan, a category two storm that killed two people and heavily damaged structures and vegetation.
Meteorologist Bob Robichaud warned on Friday afternoon that Fiona will be bigger than Juan, and stronger than 2019's Hurricane Dorian, which also reached the shores of Nova Scotia.
It is certainly going to be a historic, extreme event for Atlantic Canada."
Heavy rain and winds lashed Bermuda early on Friday, forcing schools and offices to close, before the hurricane headed north.
Fiona had already wreaked havoc on Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic earlier this week, with many still left without power or running water.
A sick four-month-old infant whose mother was unable to get to the hospital because of blocked roads is among up to four casualties in Puerto Rico. A death was also recorded on the French island of Guadeloupe.
Florida also faces a hurricane threat after a separate tropical cyclone formed in the Caribbean Sea.
Tropical Depression Nine is in its early stages and is moving on a path that could bring it to Florida next week as Hurricane Hermine, according to the US National Hurricane Center.

Best Dash Cam front and rear for Street Racing capture
For spirited driving I would recommend a wedge-style camera that is mounted directly onto the glass, rather than anything using a suction cup or ball joint, to minimise the effect of vibrations etc.
Dashcams are typically setup to record evidence rather than cinematic footage, so you will find the video usually has higher contrast and sharpness than you would get from a GoPro or your phone, for example.
Dashcams generally have a narrower angle of view (approx 130 degrees horizontal) compared to the wide angle view on a GoPro.
You might consider something like a Viofo A129 Pro. It records decent quality 4K on the front camera, and lower resolution 1080p on the rear camera.
If you want the same quality front & back, it may be worth getting a pair of single channel cameras.
If you want something more cinematic, the GitUp F1 or Mobius Maxi 4K are small matchbox-style 4K cameras that record high-bitrate video comparable to a GoPro, but will run off a continuous USB power supply. You will need to sort out your own mount though (I had a simple wedge 3d-printed for my car). There may be other box cameras to consider, the ones used on racing drones etc.

He Was Caught Cheating
Most Americans don’t approve of infidelity. According to a Gallup Poll, 91 percent of both men and women find it morally wrong, disapproving of it more than polygamy (83 percent), human cloning (83 percent), and suicide (77 percent). But despite the finger-wagging, one in five Americans have been unfaithful at least once in their marriage, according to a YouGov poll.

91 Year Old Got Harassed By Three Bikers And You Won’t Believe How He Got Revenge
In life there are two broad types of people, those who are very nice and thoughtful, and those who are rude and disrespectful. While most people strive to be decent human beings, some just don’t care and even go out of their way to be offensive. Oftentimes it’s the nicest among us who end up being targeted by the meanest, which was sadly the case for a ninety one year old man named Paul.
One day Paul was driving his truck when he decided to pull over and grab a bite to eat at a nice little roadside diner. He’d ordered a slice of apple pie and a coffee when a group of three bikers walked in. The old man glanced up at them and not thinking much of the newcomers, went back to sitting quietly and enjoying his food. The bikers looked around and upon seeing Paul one of them walked over and stubbed his lit cigarette out right in his apple pie! The biker didn’t say a word, he just walked off and joined his friends at a table in the back.
As rude and disgusting as that was, it didn’t end there. In fact, things only escalated. A second biker approached Paul, hawked up a loogie and spit it into his coffee, then walked back to his friends. Not wanting to be left out of the bullying, the third biker came over and picked up Paul’s plate, then smashed it on the floor. These mean nasty bikers clearly thought that 91 year old Paul was the weakest and easiest person in the diner they could pick on. They didn’t even know him, yet they felt the need to belittle and humiliate him in order to feel better about themselves for some reason.
Meanwhile, the whole time that he was being harassed, Paul said nothing and showed no emotion. Seeing that his meal was destroyed, he got up and paid for his food then headed outside, leaving the bikers laughing in the corner.
A waitress who had witnessed the whole scene was dreading having to take the biker’s order and as she approached their table one of the men said to her, “Hehe, the old geezer isn’t much of a man is he?” It was as if he thought he was more of a man for the despicable things he had done, when that was the least manly thing anyone could have done to a defenseless old man.
Before the waitress could answer, she glanced out the window, smiled, and said “he also isn’t much of a truck driver seeing as he just now backed over all three of your motorcycles.” The bikers sprung up from the table and ran to see what had happened. All their bikes were laying crumpled on the ground. Paul had run them over with his truck, leaving them crushed in a heap!
Paul got his revenge on the crude bikers in the best possible way. Knowing that bikers are obsessed with their bikes, he decided to destroy them, and in the process destroy what they love most. It was also the safest way to get revenge because there was no way the bikers could follow him!
In the end, there are two points to be made from Paul’s story. One is that not all bikers are bad people, but the ones who are make bikers look bad. There are many bikers who are upstanding citizens, they hold fund raisers and are involved in their communities. The second point is that you shouldn’t go around being a jerk and picking on people just because you can. You never know what others are capable of, even if someone looks old or meek, they might just one up you and deliver an instant dose of karma for being mean in the first place.

Cheetahs return to India after going extinct there over 70 years ago
NEW DELHI — When a local king in central India shot dead three cheetahs in 1947, he killed what were believed to be the last of these creatures in the country, and they were declared extinct in India five years later.
On Friday, eight of these wild cats, the world’s fastest land animals, were flown from Namibia in Africa to India as part of an effort to reintroduce them into the country.
The global population of cheetahs is 6,500 to 7,100, according to a list of threatened animals from the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Africa is home to most of the cheetahs, which are extinct across Asia, except in Iran. They are disappearing in large part because of poaching, shrinking habitats and a loss of prey.
“To save cheetahs from extinction, we need to create permanent places for them on Earth. India has areas of grassland and forest habitat, which are appropriate for this species,” said Laurie Marker, founder of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, an international nonprofit that has helped the Indian and Namibian governments with the relocation effort.
Under the elaborate plan, five female cheetahs and three males, between the ages of 2 and 6 years, were flown on a chartered Boeing 747 jet from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, to Gwalior in central Madhya Pradesh state. (Organizers previously said the cheetahs would be first sent to northern India.) The animals were then moved in a chopper to nearby Kuno National Park, where they will be housed, said S.P. Yadav, the head of India’s tiger conservation organization overseeing the move
For the first month, the animals will remain quarantined in an enclosure while being monitored for disease and adaptation. Once they have acclimatized, they will be released into the 285 square miles of the national park.
“This is the only large mammal which India has lost since independence. It is our moral and ethical responsibility to restore it,” said Yadav.
India has seen an increase in its tiger and leopard populations over the years, government data shows. The number of tigers doubled to nearly 3,000 between 2006 and 2018, despite a decline in the forest area they occupy.
Yadav said India’s goal is to develop a viable population of cheetahs in fenced-in areas. India’s plan, which costs an estimated $11 million, aims to bring in about 50 cheetahs over the next few years from South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
Some wildlife experts in India are skeptical.
Ravi Chellam, a wildlife biologist and conservation scientist based in Bangalore, said the project’s scientific foundations are “weak” and its conservation claims are “unrealistic.”

Major earthquake shakes Mexico on anniversary of two previous tremors
A magnitude 7.5 earthquake has struck western Mexico on the anniversary of two earlier devastating tremors, killing at least one person and causing flooding on the Pacific coast.
The quake hit at 1.05pm local time, striking near the town of La Placita de Morelos in the state of Michoacán at a depth of 15km.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Twitter that the secretary of the navy told him one person was killed in the port city of Manzanillo, Colima when a wall at a mall collapsed.
Michoacán authorities said there were no immediate reports of significant damage in that state beyond some cracks in buildings in the town of Coalcomán.
A mandatory evacuation order was issued in Mexico City, but the mayor, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that so far there had been no reports of damage in the capital.
The US Tsunami Warning System said there was risk of a tsunami near the coast , and footage posted on social media appeared to show flooding in the city of Manzanillo.

Japan storm: Millions told to evacuate as Typhoon Nanmadol makes landfall
One of the biggest typhoons ever to strike Japan has made landfall on the southern island of Kyushu.
Typhoon Nanmadol has brought winds of at least 180 km/h (112mph) and some areas could see 500mm (20 inches) of rainfall over today and tonight.
At least four million people have been told to evacuate their homes.
Extensive flooding and landslides are expected, while bullet train services, ferries, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.
The typhoon made landfall near the city of Kagoshima, on the southern tip of Kyushu, this morning.
Kyushu is the southernmost of the four islands that make up the main body of Japan and has a population of more than 13 million people.
Authorities had issued a "special alert" for the island, the first ever put in place outside the Okinawa Prefecture, which consists of the smaller, remote Japanese islands in the East China Sea, the Japan Times reports.
Japan's Meteorological Agency said Nanmadol would bring torrential rain, storm surges along the coast, and winds so powerful there was a risk that homes could collapse.
The typhoon is now moving north across Kyushu, dropping huge amounts of rain on the mountainous centre of the island.
It is expected to travel up through central Japan towards Tokyo over the coming days and to maintain much of its strength as it moves.
The biggest threat to life and property is from the rain, which is already causing rivers to rise and could unleash land and mudslides.
Authorities have told people across Kyushu to seek refuge in shelters.
Nanmadol is the 14th Pacific typhoon this season, and by far the largest to hit Japan.
Speaking on Saturday, an official from Japan's meteorological agency said it had the potential to be worse than both Typhoon Jebi in 2018, which left 14 people dead, and Typhoon Hagibis, which caused widespread power cuts in 2019.
The country is well-prepared for dealing with such storms, but scientists say climate change is making them bigger and more destructive.

Breaking News : FBI Paid A Russian Agent To Spew Anti Trump Lies
Yesterday, a filing by Special Counsel John Durham revealed that Igor Danchenko, who worked as a key contributor to the discredited Steele dossier funded by the Clinton campaign, was later put on the FBI payroll as an informant. The disclosure rocked Washington and raised additional questions of the FBI’s eagerness to pursue any allegations against Donald Trump despite being warned that the dossier appeared to be a vehicle for Russian disinformation.
Danchenko is facing five counts of lying to the bureau during that relationship. His trial is scheduled for next month in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia.
The filing states that “In March 2017, the FBI signed the defendant up as a paid confidential human source of the FBI. The FBI terminated its source relationship with the defendant in October 2020.”
The news shocked many of us who have closely followed the Russian collusion controversy for years. The FBI showed a zeal to investigate Trump and his campaign that seemed to border on the blind obsessive. It was not simply with the Steele dossier. On the baseless Alfa Bank allegations (also pushed by Clinton campaign through friends at the FBI) the supervisory agent for the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe, Joe Pientka, sent a note to FBI special agent Curtis Heide, stating: “People on the 7th floor to include Director are fired up about this server.” Pientka then messaged Heide: “Did you guys open a case? Reach out and put tools on?”That description of the apparent eagerness of then-FBI Director James Comey and others only magnifies concern over the bureau’s alleged bias or predisposition on the Trump investigation. It was the same eagerness that led the FBI to pursue the Russian investigation for years despite being warned early by American intelligence that the Steele dossier contained not just unsupported allegations but possible Russian disinformation.
Indeed, Danchenko’s possible connections to Russian intelligence have been raised as a matter of concern. The filing states “During his January 2017 interview with the FBI, the defendant initially denied having any contact with Russian intelligence or security services but later — as noted by the agents, contradicted himself and stated that he had contact with two individuals who he believed to be connected to those services.”
What is particularly concerning is that the FBI also had former British spy Christopher Steele, on its payroll. Steele then assembled his dossier under the funding of the Clinton campaign which repeatedly denied such funding to the media. This money was funneled through the law firm of Perkins Coie and the campaign’s general counsel, Marc Elias. (The Federal Election Commission (FEC) fined the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign for violating election rules in hiding that funding).
So the FBI cut off Steele as a paid source after he allegedly worked with the media to spread these unproven claims. It then turned around and hired his principle source for the dossier.
The filing also states that Danchenko discussed an interest in obtaining classified information for possible sale to the Russians.
“As has been publicly reported, the defendant was the subject of an FBI counterintelligence investigation from 2009 to 2011. In late 2008, while the defendant was employed by a prominent think tank in Washington, D.C., the defendant engaged two fellow employees about whether one of the employees might be willing or able in the future to provide classified information in exchange for money.
According to one employee (‘Employee-1’), the defendant believed that he (Employee-1) might be in a position to enter the incoming Obama administration and have access to classified information. During this exchange, the defendant informed Employee-1 that he had access to people who would be willing to pay money in exchange for classified information. Employee-1 passed this information to a U.S. government contact, and the information was subsequently passed to the FBI.
Based on this information, the FBI initiated a ‘preliminary investigation’ into the defendant. The FBI converted its investigation into a ‘full investigation’ after learning that the defendant (1) had been identified as an associate of two FBI counterintelligence subjects and (2) had previous contact with the Russian Embassy and known Russian intelligence officers.”The “prominent think tank” appears to be the Brookings Institution. I have previously written about the prominent role of Brookings in spreading the Russian collusion claims and hiring an array of people who played critical roles in these investigations. That also included former FBI general counsel James Baker. For some, it seemed like not just friends but “friends with benefits.” It seems that everyone in this scandal was six degrees from Brookings.

SPECIAL OPS SOLDIER WITH JETPACK BOARDS SHIP IN AMAZING VIDEO HOW TO BOARD A SHIP IN STYLE.
In a new video released by jetpack maker Gravity Industries, a jetsuit-wearing special ops soldier from the Netherlands Maritime Special Operations Force can be seen boarding a ship — by flying there from a nearby pursuit vessel.
It's a spectacular demonstration of Gravity Industries' flying technology. Rather than having to pursue and approach the ship in the tailing vessel, the jetpack-enhanced soldier simply takes to the skies and effortlessly lands on the deck of the ship — in a fraction of the time boarding would have taken otherwise.
