4, 1 Hour Oil Paintings of Torres Del Paine, Patagonia, Chile
Removing the tape border at the end of the 4 painting studies I completed based on photos I took on location in Torres Del Paine, Chile.
This is so satisfying to do at the end!
What do you think? From left to right what is best in your opinion? 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th?

How To Draw The Head - The Loomis Method
In this video I show you how to draw the basic construction of the head, taught by Andrew Loomis from his book 'How To Draw The Head & Hands'.
I call this 'The Loomis Method'.
There are different ways to draw the human head, but personally I think the Andrew Loomis method is the best to learn from and start with.
This is the very first step of basic construction, in future videos I will show you how to draw the planes of the face and individual features, and their correct proportions, including drawing the skull.

Richard Schmid Master Study - Watercolour & Gouache Painting
This is a 1 minute time-lapse video of me painting a master copy of one of artist Richard Schmid's oil paintings of his wife, Nancy.
I painted this using watercolour & gouache as a painting exercise.
I am considering making more of these videos, possibly some longer and with more audio content. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more.
I painted this master study from Richard Schmid's book; 'Alla Prima Everything I know About Painting'

Tea Country - Landscape Painting In Watercolour & Gouache
Back in 2011 I travelled alone to Sri Lanka during an early break from my 3 month trip in India which started in Chennai. I spent just over 3 weeks travelling around the country, and about half way through my trip, I visited Sri Lanka's hilly countryside called 'Tea country'.
Whenever I passed a small stall or shop on the side of a road, I was greeted with a smile, a quick wag of the head, and welcomed in for some 'chai', a small cup of (usually very sugary unless asked to have without) tea for the equivalent of about 10 pence. I had a great time there.
This is my watercolour & gouache painting based on a photo I took on location of a local woman collecting tea leaves which I painted for the Plein Airpril challenge, my day 4.

How I Finish A Painting In Watercolour & Gouache
This is how I usually finish a painting in watercolour & gouache.
A little tip for traditional artists and painters who like to do quick studies and plein air paintings in any medium.
It's a simple finishing touch which frames your painting right at the end, and helps it to come forward and lift it off the page a little. You might prefer to leave it without a border, sometimes I also do that. You could even try with a pen if you are feeling extra brave. Experiment and see what works for you!
This is a technique I learned from one of my favourite artists and teachers, Nathan Fowkes. http://www.nathanfowkesart.com/

How To Warm Up For Drawing
In this video I show you how you can warm up for drawing in traditional media such as pencils and pens.
I show 3 exercises which you can practice as part of your warm up session before drawing or painting. I then show you two of the basic ways to hold your pencil for more precision, and also how to make broader strokes.
I have always loved to draw throughout my life, and I have found that doing just a few minutes of warm up exercises can really benefit the drawing and painting experience.

How To Keep Momentum As An Artist
In this video I discuss how to keep up momentum as an artist, and why I think it's important to keep doing at least small amounts of uninterrupted daily practice, no matter how busy the schedule. I also talk about why I think it's important to keep taking steps forward, and the benefits daily action will bring, not just to your art, but to your overall well being as an individual.
Personally I found it difficult to keep trying to get back into the flow of creating art whilst travelling, especially in the early years. There were periods of weeks and months when I didn't practice at all and I did not feel good about it. I noticed not only my confidence in my ability would drop, but also my actual skill level! These periods of having to get the ball rolling again with regular practice were the most difficult. Fortunately I kept coming back to it.
I hope you find some value in this video, if you do, please drop a comment, like, share and subscribe to my channel.

Eagle Woman - Pencil Drawing Process Video
This is my traditional art, pencil drawing process video recording I made of one of my recent daily pencil drawings in my sketchbook. I'm not talking in this video, so just sit back and enjoy the music while watching the 5 minute clip to see how I work and how I created this pencil drawing. This time from a different camera position.
Some of you will know that I love to work in both traditional and digital art, and switching between the two I find to be the most rewarding. I feel good when I dedicate some time each day to traditional art drawing. Give it a try yourself, even 10-15 minutes after you wake up, or before you go to sleep, it all adds up over time.

Cathedral Cloister Plein Air Painting Video - Évora, Portugal
I put together some footage of me painting inside the medieval cathedral cloister in Évora, Portugal.
The first clip of me is about 2 minutes long if you want to skip, then I show my painting in progress from two separate camera angles. I left the original background audio of the cathedral in the clips.

Falcon Watercolour Painting - Speed Painting Video
This is a speed painting process video of one of my watercolour warm-up sketches.
Usually I sketch with pencil and paper when I wake up, but today I wanted to try something different and decided to give watercolours a try. I use watercolours with gouache for some of my landscape paintings, but I almost never use watercolours alone. But it is a medium which you can actually sketch with fairly quickly, and It can be good to use for quick studies to start your day.

Charcoal Pencil Drawing - Time-lapse Video
This is a time-lapse video of a charcoal pencil drawing I did this morning.
Charcoal pencils are one of my favourite art materials to work in, and use for life drawing and sketching the figure. I find it to be a really enjoyable experience being able to push the charcoal around on the paper, and blending in areas with my fingers.
Sometimes I even gather the leftover charcoal dust, put it in a container, and then dabble my finger in to draw directly with broad finger strokes.
