ESA captures spectacular video of ‘furry’ Sun
The ESA’s Extreme Ultraviolet Imager took a close look at the Sun (and by close we mean over 100 million kilometers away, but that’s closer than you’ll ever get), as part of a joint mission with NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, which is a mere 7.26 million kilometers away. The EUI took a look at part of the Sun about to emit solar wind, which Parker would then fly though and measure, and the video taken shows the closest look at the Sun’s outer atmosphere – the corona – in detail never seen before.
The odd strands of plasma pulled away from the chromosphere by the magnetic field, called ‘spicules,’ give the Sun an oddly furry appearance, while bright patches of ‘coronal moss’ appear near the base of the bigger ejections. The biggest ejection of all, though, occurred in almost the center of the video. It looks tiny in comparison to the rest of the Sun, but looks are deceiving: that small eruption could swallow the Earth whole. The video also captured one of the most unusual phenomena seen on the Sun: rain, as plasma falls back to the Sun. However, that ‘rain’ is extremely hot, at about 1 million degrees Celsius.

Woman pulls gun on heckler after car accident
A driver passing by an accident in Humble, Texas thought it would be hilarious to slow down, wind down the window and yell at the drivers ‘y’all can’t park right here.’ The woman decided to do a little ‘teasing’ of her own, and approximately 3/16ths of a second later she had pointed a gun in his face, and then started firing into the air.
Judging by the smile on the woman’s face, and the driver’s laughter, it’s possible they knew each other, and this is just how they greet each other. The occupants of the daycare center behind her, or the other drivers involved in the accident, probably didn’t feel quite so welcomed.

Man kidnapped 26 years ago was held prisoner meters from home
An Algerian man, long believed dead, was finally discovered 26 years later, being held prisoner a mere 90 meters from his family home. Omar Bin Omran, then 19 years old, was on his way to a vocational school in 1998 when he mysteriously vanished. As the months and years went on, most of his family assumed he had been killed in the civil war, which lasted from 1992-2002. However, his mother refused to believe it, and there were signs something more sinister had happened: some time after the kidnapping, Omar’s dog was killed. The family suspected he was poisoned.
A new lead emerged recently, after the family saw a social media post by one of their neighbors. His brother was arguing with him about an inheritance, and accused him of being involved in the kidnapping. Police searched the neighbor’s home, and a trap door was found; Omar was alive, and had been kept prisoner all this time. Omar said that he could see his family often through a small window, but could never call out for help, like he was under a ‘spell.’
His abductor, now 61, is set to face trial for the ‘heinous crime,’ while Omar is being treated for his ordeal, both physically, and psychologically.

Moment Russian paratrooper takes out drone with machine gun
A Ukrainian ‘Baba Yaga’ type drone attempted to strike Russian paratroopers from the skies. However, Russian forces were not only quick to act, but also quick to discover the drone’s greatest weakness: bullets. The hexacopter attempted its attack above Chasov Yar, just west of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), but the keen eyes (and keen thermal imaging systems) of the paratroopers led to its discovery well before it could reach its target. Those same keen eyes trained their PKM, Pecheneg, and Ak-12 guns on the drone and knocked it clean out of the sky, as this video from the Russian Ministry of Defense shows.
