The Promised Land is symbolic and representative of the Kingdom of God. With that, Moses can only take you so far--up to the Promised Land, able to see the Promised Land but he cannot take you across the Jordan. So he asks the Father to appoint another to Shepherd the people across. The Testimony of Yeshua is the Spirit of Prophecy

God led the Israelites coming out Egypt away from the fortifications that would have led to conflict, even though they had weapons. They were not yet ready for battle--they might change their mind and return to Egypt. Too many of God's people may have the weapons of our warfare, may have the armor of God, may have the Sword of the Spirit--but they too are not ready for battle. Because we are disconnected from the past moves of God and thus have a hard time believing Him for moves in the future or that we can really be a part of it. Neither do we realize that the enemy is going to be coming after us and trying to pull us back under his influence. We need training in God's ways, experience following unusual orders. A relatively small family entered Egypt and was successful for a time. They grew more and more numerous, but a quick change in political leadership turned the situation into persecution. The new leader wanted to take their prosperity, use their labor and reduce their numbers, thus their threat. But all of Pharaoh's plans were thwarted by two women who feared God more than any threat or persecution. Many see Jacob's time with Laban as the deceiver getting just payback. That Jacob deserves what happens to him because of how he treated his brother and his father. The traditional interpretation of Jacob lends to that because we have believed the lie about Jacob and his character. But the text is actually trying to establish Jacob's integrity during his time with Laban.
