How to make HOMEMADE soap bars for BEGINNERS!
Soap you buy in the store is full of crazy chemicals that you'd never believe. In this video we'll show you how to make soap with just a few well known ingredients that would have been similar to the process used in the 1800's, albeit with modern conveniences. For instance, the lye would have been made from wood ash in the past.

Quail on a BACKYARD homestead??? #shorts
It's awesome to eat your food that you raised or grew yourself. Buttermilk battered quail that we raised in our backyard was a pretty amazing meal. Throw in Southern style hushpuppies and baked potatoes that we grew in our garden, and you really do have a great meal.
No... the corn meal in the hushpuppies wasn't grown by us and we don't have a cow to make buttermilk of our own (not yet at least) but our point is that you can find ways to be more self reliant even in your backyard.
Subscribe if you want to learn ways to be more self sufficient in your backyard!

WINTERIZE your garden with a SILAGE TARP
Sometimes homesteading is just about learning as we go and passing those lessons along to the next generation. In this video we show you how to use a silage tarp to prep for winter. By using a tarp, it effectively kills of off the weeds that might otherwise grow slowly through the winter. If you do "no till" methods, this creates a great weed free environment to use your broad fork on in the spring. It also creates an optimal environment for worms to decompose all the remaining plants and create some great worm castings to give your plants a boost in the spring!

Bluetti Solar Generator for Winter Storm or Hurricane Prep?
Where we live, the power goes out frequently and we constantly had to fire up the generator to get back to normal, so we decided to start looking into solar and immediately ran into choices of "grid-tied" or "off-grid" and wanted to share some of the things we had to consider. We talk a little about the benefits and challenges of either option and why for preparedness reasons, off grid options are what we saw as the best choice and why Bluetti was what we went with.
If you're interested in the Bluetti system you can find it on Amazon by following the link below or if you prefer to buy it directly from the manufacturer, you can click here --- http://shrsl.com/3ugvb

AMAZING Cast Iron RE-SEASONING transformation!
Sometimes homesteading is just about learning as we go and passing those lessons along to the next generation. In this video it's all about re-seasoning a cast iron pan from the thrift store to make it look like new! We use flaxseed oil which has a fairly low smoke point, but you can use other oils like vegetable or peanut oil as well that have higher smoke points. We really like the finish the flaxseed oil gives and just don't take the temp up as high as some do.

Welcome back to our channel, the Purpose Driven Homestead!
We have all kinds of berries on our homestead, but by far the most prolific are our red raspberries and wild black raspberries. They have produced like crazy this year and we wanted to save some of that yummy goodness for later when they aren't producing any longer. Today we're showing you how we make our raspberry jam using a squeezo strainer that we found at a YARD SALE!!!

Trimming a Chicken Beak
Welcome back to our channel, the Purpose Driven Homestead!
Chicken's beaks are just like fingernails... they continuously grow. Most chickens do a great job of "self-trimming" their beaks as they eat. To do this, chickens will frequently wipe their beak back and forth as they eat to essentially file them down. Their pecking usually takes care of the front.
Sometimes they don't follow this behavior and their beaks can become elongated. In this video we show you how to trim down a peak if it becomes a problem for the chicken to self solve.

Preserving Eggs - Long Term Storage (Water Glassing)
Welcome back to our channel, the Purpose Driven Homestead!
Egg prices (just like everything else) are absolutely out of control these days and if you have backyard chickens, summer is peak egg production season when the days are long. The long days stimulate chickens to lay eggs daily in most cases where during the winter the egg production typically falls off dramatically or stops altogether. So for that reason, summer and fall are great times to store extra eggs for times when you may not be able to get fresh eggs.
In today's video we show you how to waterglass eggs as well as freezing them for later use as well.

Using a Presto Canner On An Induction Cooktop (HOW TO)
Welcome back to our channel, the Purpose Driven Homestead! Canning food is an outstanding way to store from times of "plenty" to be used in times of need. We use a Presto canner, but quickly figured out that since it's made of aluminum, it won't work on the induction cooktop we have in our house. For those who don't know, induction cooking uses electric currents to directly heat pots and pans through magnetic induction instead of using thermal conduction. Because of this, it heats the cooking vessel itself almost instantly and loses much less of the heating process to the air or surrounding cooktop. So that makes it about 5%-10% more efficient than electric cooktops and about 30% more efficient than gas cooktops. It comes at the drawback though... that only cookware that's made from metal that is subject to magnetism (not aluminum).
We initially canned using a burner on our grill, but that just wasn't effective at scale, so we figured out a way that allows us to use our induction cooktop to can and thought we'd share that with you today!

Spring Sale on Big Buddy Heater (plus a fix for no fan models)
Help us out by giving our video a like, SUBSCRIBE, and drop us a comment, we'd love to hear from you.
Spring should be when everyone is looking to buy heaters for next winter. Stores like Walmart and Tractor Supply are putting their heaters on sale now to make room for all of their spring planting supplies. That means it's a perfect time to pick up a heater at one of the lowest prices of the year.
