Since first unveiling the T-Roc just 6 years ago VW has sold more than 112,000 T-Rocs in just the UK alone! Well, Mat’s about to take a closer look to see just what makes the T-Roc so popular. Some things are fairly obvious, such as the design. It may be a pretty standard crossover SUV, but it comes with a good few design cues to help it stand out. It’s also pretty well built, so even just opening and closing the doors helps the car feel solid. What’s more, its small size means it’s pretty easy to drive around town, and helps even the more cautious driver squeeze through smaller gaps and into small parking spaces. However, it’s not all rosy. For example, while the entry-level T-Roc isn’t too expensive, costing around £28,000, the price can easily rise up into the mid-£40,000! The car we have here, for example, isn’t even the top-spec car, but with a couple of options added it costs north of £41,000! When you consider what other family-friendly cars you can pick up for that price, we’re not sure if they offer the best value for money! And while it’s ok to drive in town, once you hit a dual carriageway or country road, the pick-up and responsiveness of the gearbox and engine leaves a little bit to be desired. We’ve got our hands on a BMW M8, AMG GT 4-Door and a Porsche Panamera Turbo, and these V8-powered behemoths are about to go head-to-head over the quarter-mile! However, these are no ordinary German powerhouses. They’ve all been tuned, and are now kicking some serious additional horses over their usual performance stats! So let’s take a closer look at the numbers. Starting with the BMW M8, it’s powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. This would normally kick out 625hp, but this has now been increased to an almighty 800hp! It’s the lightest car here, at 1,980kg, and the cost of the car new coupled with the tune comes in at around £143,000. Alongside it we have the AMG. It’s packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, which would usually put down 639hp, but this has now been increased to 740hp! It tips the scales at 2,045kg, and it’s the most expensive car here, costing around £154,000! Then finally we have the Porsche. Normally its 4-litre twin-turbo V8 would produce 550hp, but this has now been increased to 740hp - an eye-watering 190hp increase! It’s the heaviest car here, mind, weighing in at 2,080kg, and with the tune the car costs £113,000. So will the more powerful BMW snatch it? Or could either the AMG or Porsche claim the win? It’s an all-new MPV from Lexus, and Mat is about to find out if this luxurious people carrier has what it takes to compete with top-class saloons such as the Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series. When it comes to the design, there isn’t much to say about the rear or sides. It comes with smatterings of chrome about the place, along with a rear spoiler, but otherwise, this people carrier is relatively boxy and nondescript. However, once you step around to the front, you’re greeted by Lexus’s trademark HUGE grille! This helps make it super imposing on the road, and it also comes flanked by high-tech matrix LED headlights. The interior quality for the driver is pretty decent. There’s lots of leather throughout the cabin, as well as a large infotainment screen and digital dial display. There’s a fairly decent amount of interior storage, too, and the seats are incredibly comfortable. However, step into the back and you'll find that comfort is absolutely next level. We’ve got our hands on the range-topping Takumi edition, which comes with just two business class-style seats. There’s a huge screen that spans the length of the cabin, coupled with several speakers, including two huge speakers built into each door! The seats can recline fully flat, window shades are built in, and there is absolutely loads of storage! This is truly the way to travel in first-class style on the road. When it comes to the engine choice, there’s only one. It’s a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that comes with a CVT gearbox as well as an electric motor. There is the option to add an additional electric motor to offer four-wheel drive, but interestingly, both the single motor and dual motor offer 250hp! The Lexus LM isn’t cheap. It starts from £90,000, raising to £113,000 for the range-topper! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
