The geese and goslings are off the pond. Hang in there and watch the momma goose call her babies then go back to herd them

It takes some time before the adult geese come to their aid.

Geese, like all waterfowl, have an oil gland to help them stay "waterproof". That gland doesn't start working until the goslings have been exposed to water. Until then, the goslings are subject to getting wet, chilled, and possibly drowning as the water is caught in the feathers. So a short exposure trip is necessary. That happened this morning.

Walking the dogs this afternoon we caught the geese taking the goslings for a bath. That big gosling is only a week or so older than the little ones. Amazing.

First born of a batch of Rouen ducks hatched in the incubator

Whitey never had a pond experience so it was fun to watch him paddle like a little duckling. A few days later he's as smooth as the water itself.

Far Creek is actually one of the overflows for Lake Catherine

Despite below freezing temps today the geese enjoyed lots of time in the pond actually venturing toward the deep middle whilst the ducks dined on fine grasses and who knows what's down there.

While the ducks ebjoy the water, the turkeys stay dry above.

Ducks and water, eh!
