Height of TREE with Math? Measuring Climbing Calculating
Jake shows how to use math to calculate the height of a tree. He uses a measuring tape, protractor app, calculator and a math formula. The process gives an approximate height not always exact, but it is good enough to generally know the height of a tree or building. If you have a smartish phone that has a protractor app and a calculator this can be a great use of teaching the importance of math.
The formula used is Height= Tan( ) X Distance from object + height of the persons eye
h=tan( ) X D + Eye

Flory Almond Sweeper opening rows!! We get filthy and have fun.
Jake and Joseph start up the Old Sweeper and start moving the Almonds. We show the process of breaking into the tree rows after the Almond Trees were shook. It takes some adjustment to get the machine working correctly. At the end we show our ingenuous way to get the dust of the machine and the operators. We still definitely need to take a bath.

Next time I will Measure TWICE!!! Door too skinny for Laguna Laser.
When you have a big job, and it requires it helps to call experienced help. I ordered a Laguna MX Laser Engraver for my classroom. I did not look at the Dimensions before I put in the order. It was nearly 5 inches wider than the door it needed to fit through. So, I hired my kids Charlotte and Joseph and promised snacks and cold water. I also promised my Father-in-Law Lunch if he helped me widen my door.
The Door was widened and fixed and took 5 times longer than I expected. It was a good thing I called for help on this job.

Rock Cod LIMIT and Find a HUGE SUN Fish!!! Fishing in Santa Cruz Lessons Learned.
Jake, Heather, Aunty Anna, Charlotte, Joesph and Eleanor take to the seas to catch Rock Fish outside of Santa Cruz, CA. There plenty of fish caught and half of the crew lose their Lunch along the way. We find out that we should have prepared for sea sickness.
We all have fun catching fish getting a close-up view of a massive Sunfish twice.
We learn that reading the directions on the motion sickness package prior to departing is important. Jacob receives bad advice that Eating Lemon Heads prevent Sea Sickness. Also Lemon heads do not prevent sea sickness for us.
What we wish we had prepared for the Fishing Charter prior to Setting out onto the Sea.
