Lifelong progressive and generally affirming parent of a trans identifying daughter managed to defer puberty blockers but was unable to defer testosterone. Her child's paediatrician had read the prestigious British Medical Journals' articles warning against "Gender Affirming Care" for children and was aware of poor research and outcomes. The paediatrician moved forward, tagging the the 15-year-old as a "mature minor" based on misused and misguided Canadian policy and that she was old enough to decide-- knowing very well that the teen's 'facts' came only from TikTok. What's the purpose of education? Transgenderism quickens an incredible sadness within Dawn and Ray; two parents from Nova Scotia. These loving parents believed they were being supportive as they began their family's gender journey. They openly affirmed their trans daughter by recommendation from therapists but soon felt uneasy as they observed the emotional unravelling caused by the "affirmation model". Dawn and Ray express feelings of helplessness and isolation as they watch queerness erase the daughter they lovingly raised for 17 years and a new child emerges that they don't recognize. The conversation we share is a raw and candid story of familial distress that many will relate to.
